He definitely can’t shoot 3’s but that doesn’t make him a post player. And he can dribble. He may not be Kyrie Irving but he can dribble. He’s the one kid on this team who returned and has shown improvement. A lot of that improvement has come from moving to his natural 3 position. People here are so confusing. Sadly if TJD leaves, they’ll be playing in the NIT. Maybe when they are Juniors and Seniors they’ll be dancing. Leals shot got a bit quicker over the summer it seemed. My expectations entering this season were NIT at best after losing out by far two best players. We didn’t add any shooters but added two bigs. But I want to see improvement from players and Archie. I haven’t seen either. Smith I think has improved mentally and is still a very good defensive player. Durham hasn’t improved. Green hasn’t. Rob hasn’t. Players haven’t progressed any during the season. Has TJD looked any different? Has he gotten any better in the post? Any better at sealing his man off? Picked a different post move or two? I think what makes it worse for me when it comes to Green and Durham is that both have tested the NBA waters to see what they need to get better at... and it didn’t help them any. Tells me they have absolutely peaked and this is just who they are. Smith seems to be the only one to have improved, even if that’s just mentally. I want Durham to return, but he doesn’t need to be a starter anymore, even next season. Honestly would be fine with Leal if his shooting is better or Franklin if his shooting improves. It seems like other coaches will go with a kid who is deep in the rotation at times. Archie played McRoberts who have us nothing all last season but this year won’t go that deep. Durham peaked last season. He’s just not good enough to be a starter at IU if we want to be good. So many thought he’d make a huge jump but he’s stayed the same. Though his decision making is probably worse. I think starting and playing Phinisee could help his confidence, but man, that boy HAS to more aggressive shooting the ball. He has a good mid range game and doesn’t use it. Has no killer instinct on offense and we need it. For whatever reason he just dribbles around and doesn’t shoot. 2.5 years? Hell the fans may want to see good basketball, but the administration is going to give you time. Davis got 6 years. Crean got 9. Sampson screwed himself. We’ve had 4 coaches the past 20 years and really only because one was stupid enough to get himself fired and the university was too stupid to deny, deny, deny. You have plenty of time here, but fans here aren’t stupid. They know what good basketball is. They can see it even with a bad team.
