  1. Big loss for them. Certainly not shocking news, but wonder what exactly the reasons were for it.
  2. Danger time for the Boilermakers. Down 16 to Rutgers with 4 to play in the first half. On the verge of getting blown out if they can’t cut into it before the half. Would take them to 11-10 overall, and basically out of the tourney with an outside shot at last four in if they make a miracle run which seems unlikely. Also, Va Tech, who some people are calling the potential 4th team to make the dance out of the ACC, getting stomped at Miami (dead last in the conference) by 17 at the half. ACC is weaaaakkk this year.
  3. I have trouble figuring out who to root for in this Rutgers/Mich game. I tend to root in games based on how it affects IU. Would it be better for us to have Michigan lose to make our Rutgers win look better and better, or better if Michigan wins and gives us another chance at a Quad 2(?) win upcoming?
  4. Fully understand that it’s their brand of basketball, and some people love it. Hell, it got them a chip last year. But I’m watching the Virginia/FSU game, first UVA game for me I’m a while. It’s almost painful to watch. 14-11 with 8 minutes to go in the first half. The pace is painful.
  5. Really good way to start the class. He’s a “high three star” and has a good chance to play his way into a four star recruit. Let’s other guys considering see that it’s gonna be a strong class and they better get on board.
  6. Apparently how you play n conference doesn’t really matter that much according to ESPN’s bracketologist. They have IU today as an 8-seed, but Ohio St. also as an 8-seed and Michigan at a 9-seed. Rutgers only one seed line higher than Ohio St. at a 7-seed. So the difference between being 15-5 (6-3 in B1G) and 11-8 (2-6 in B1G) is only 2 seed lines?
  7. Iowa and Wisconsin were threatening to be playing in a “first to 40 wins” type of game until a late barrage of 3’s to end the half. Teams are 5 for 24 combined from 3. I’ve read Iowa called one of the most prolific offensive teams in the country. I guess playing against Wisconsin and they way then take the air out of the ball (and set basketball back 30 years) every time out will do that to a team. Game tied at 30-30 at the half.
  8. I think the ACC will struggle to get 5 at-large bids into the tourney. Maybe UVA scrapes enough decent wins together to get the committee to overlook the eye test of how bad they are offensively. I guess Syracuse could get in even though they don’t have a single win against a ranked team. Really weak conference after the top 3.
  9. Well, a win. Pretty easy to sum it up: Grace Berger and good free throw shooting. That was how it happened. At home, against a Minnesota team that is 2-7 in conference, this was a game they were supposed to win. I said after the losing streak that they had a good chance to be 8-3 heading into a big game at home against Maryland, and they’re half way there. Gonna need more out of our post players, Gulbe and Holmes, to compete for a B1G title, because we aren’t a prolific 3-point shooting team. Need to establish the post again in the next couple games. Grace Berger, hats off, great game. Beat a team we should have and closed it out with solid free throw shooting. On to the next. Beat Wiscy at home and get the rivalry game against Purdue and we will have a big home game with conference title and NCAA seeding implications at home against the Terrapins. Go get ‘em ladies.
  10. The announcer is really gonna call the banked-in prayer of a 3 “beautiful” and “an amazing shot”?? Everyone in the building knows that was a terrible shot that got lucky.
  11. 12 fouls called on IU to Minny’s 6. Berger getting mauled and they call a jump ball. Ball comes off the rim and Jorie Allen ties up the Minny rebounder and the blow a whistle almost before the girl gets the ball rebounded.
  12. I doubt he would use a grad transfer to go compete for the backup role at IU. I think it’s officially the Penix/Tuttle show next year for better or worse.
  13. Did the refs from the guys game against Maryland just stay at the hall and call this game?? Phantom “and 1” on the jumper and a bunch of touch fouls. Whatever happened to the hand being part of the ball in regards to fouls?
  14. Few thoughts on the first half: -Need to figure out a way to start with a better energy. Last few games the 1st quarter we’ve dug ourselves a hole and it seems like it’s on the defensive end letting up easy drives to the hoop. -Grace Berger. Man, I wish I could bottle up her mid range game and make every player on the men’s team drink a gallon of it before each game. So smooth and she shots it with such confidence. Breathe of fresh air watching her shoot the rock. -Ali Patberg is our motor and plays hard every game. Love her, BUT, in end of half or end of game situations someone else needs to have the ball. Couple games in a row when she has tried to create a shot with under 10 seconds on the clock and either gotten blocked or didn’t even get a shot off. Her game is better pushing on the break or coming off screens. She doesn’t have the ability to make something happen one on one with the clock running down IMO. I’d rather see Penn or Berger with the ball in those situations. -this is a big half for our confidence. Would be nice if they could open it up and win comfortably. Get some positive Mo going with Wiscy coming into town, and take that feeling into the Purdue game.
  15. Also none of us would ever play golf again.
  16. Maybe try looking at the season differently. Assuming you’re like most people and aren’t realistically thinking we are winning a national championship this year - then you can watch the season with a little different perspective and root for the rest of the year to show improved play and growth from individual players that give you optimism about us creating some momentum for next year. That’s kind of been my new outlook over the past few weeks. Just one example, seeing Jerome Hunter starting to get his feels back has me feeling good; or watching how consistently tough Brunk has become makes me think what a great Senior presence he’s gonna be next year. It’s tough losing and not being where we want the program to be, but there are reasons for optimism if you look for them that let you enjoy this season and the process a bit easier IMHO.
  17. Man. Just devastating. As a new dad, I’m emotional just thinking about it. Heartbreaking.
  18. Ball doesn’t always bounce your way, you don’t always get the calls. That’s basketball. Don’t agree with all the finger pointing at D. Green right now though. He was a major reason we had a chance to win. In my opinion he played one of his most under control games and contributed in a lot of ways and at big moments. Maybe took an ill-advised shot late in the game, but it was a broken play with the shot clock running down. It’s just easy to scream “bench him forever” because we don’t like the outcome of the game. He’s improving and playing smarter, but isn’t perfect. The team fought hard. They dug out of a 14 point hole. Ball didn’t go in on our last attempt. It is what it is. Proud of the team for playing tough.
  19. I have this theory that when the crowd gets loud on a big momentum moment the refs adrenaline gets going and they feel like they have to call something just because they’re fast twitch muscles start firing and they level out games as a result. Stupid.
  20. I just don’t get that call. If you’re boxing a guy out and he jumps, why is that a foul on you? You’re doing what you’re supposed to do boxing out.
  21. I mean, come on. Maryland is gonna hit 9 3’s in the first half on the road? What are the odds. This is just silly.
  22. Is there even a 1% chance that this guy goes anywhere other than Duke?
  23. There’s a popular theory around sports wagering, that when you see an unranked team favored over a ranked team playing at home, you should take the action. Sit at any sports book in Vegas long enough and you’ll hear about it whenever that line is available. Unranked against ranked, favored at home = green light.
  24. With Wayne Fleek on this one, but don’t have any first hand knowledge of his game. Numbers just don’t scream “must get” for IU, especially in a loaded and important 2021 class. I know stats aren’t everything, but I hesitate when you see a 6’9” kid in high school have several games where he had 4 points, or 8 points, and consistently scores around 12-16. Sort of pedestrian. My opinion, maybe have him as a plan B, but like to see us prioritize Furst, Kaufman, Aminu and Lander.
