  1. Is this true? I read Bennie Seltzer was taking over as interim.
  2. Wowww. Just watched the whole Kansas brawl posted on ESPN. If Bill Self doesn’t suspend DeSousa and whoever #33 is for the rest of the season, the Kansas fans should call for him to be fired. Honestly, if they are representing your university and/or your alma mater across their chest acting like that... nope. If a coach lets them back on the team I wouldn’t want any part of supporting that team.
  3. Man, NW beating up on Maryland at the half. There just aren’t any easy road games in the B1G. Even at the bottom. It kind of stinks that the conference is so balanced, because it seems like it’s costing the teams a few seed lines in bracket projections. Yeah, you get more numbers into the field, but because of the losses being spread around, we’re looking at a lot of 6-9 seeds when if the bottom of the conference was weaker, the records might support some 3-5 seeds for the same teams.
  4. Take the points.
  5. Agree with the sentiment and the importance of capitalizing on the momentum. It’s early to say they’ve “lost” the attention though in my opinion. They lost three games to ranked teams, two of which were on the road. It was far and away the most difficult stretch of games we could have faced in conference. Iowa hasn’t lost at home in two years and we let a lead slip away and lost steam in two overtimes. NW and Maryland are tough, and we got beat. Was it a missed opportunity to make a statement that our early season success was not a fluke. Absolutely. Was it the end of the program’s chance to turn a corner. I don’t believe so, no. We aren’t the only team to beat South Carolina, the number one team in the country, by accident. With a favorable schedule remaining in conference I still think a conference title is in play, and a deep run in the conference tourney when games are on a neutral court, I think we still have a chance at a 4 seed or better in the big dance. And as it relates to the program, it’s important to note that we only play one senior in a significant role, and Ali Patberg was granted a sixth year of eligibility and will be back. This year is just part of the momentum the program is potentially building. Next year may ultimately be the pivotal year when we break through, but I agree this year is important to sustain the upward trajectory. The next two weeks are important because we should be favored in the next four games. A lot will be revealed about the mental toughness of the team in the coming weeks. If they start playing like they’re capable of and right the ship, this stretch will just be a couple tough luck losses against deservingly ranked teams on the road and in OT. The beat will go on. Overall I think the program still has the opportunity to do what IU baseball did and break through and maintain success. Just the fact that I’m here talking about them and have watched the last five games or so having marked them on my mental calendar to tune in, means something. I am a lifelong men’s basketball fan, but seeing them ranked early in the season and being successful in the Virgin Islands against top ten teams got my attention. They play the game the right way. They compete. And they have a little bit of the underdog appeal that makes you want them to overcome the odds and be good. I personally think they’re in great shape as a program and are still on the upswing. Hopefully I’m right. Go get ‘em girls.
  6. Just took a peak, and actually the lady Hoosiers have a really favorable schedule remaining in conference. Don’t play NW, Iowa or Rutgers again, and have Maryland at home. Think they win their next four games and head into the rematch at home against Maryland 8-3 in conference. After that game they play against the back half of the conference down the home stretch. I think we’ve played the toughest conference schedule so far and even with a couple winnable OT losses are sitting at 4-3. I still like our chances at a conference title if we can take care of business the next four games against teams we should beat.
  7. Gut check time. Three game losing streak. Really needed to pull one of those OT games out because confidence looks shaken. This doesn’t look like the IU team I’ve watched this season, that plays fundamental and smart. Usually crisp offensive sets and cuts to the hoop. Looks like a team that needs to figure out of it wants to compete for a conference title and make a run in the tourney, or if it is just happy to call it a successful season having beaten a couple top ten teams and finishing middle of the pack in the big ten and going out in the first or second round of the dance. I think Moren will get them back on track, but they look a little rattled and maybe even fatigued. Lot of youth on the team. Need to grow up quick, because this and next year are the best window of talent the women’s program has had to make the leap to being elite and they need to capitalize on it.
  8. Announcers talking about a potential fouls on Holmes with the body on that shot, but totally ignoring the chicken wing push off by girl to get that layup. SMH
  9. Man, having watched so much of our men’s team this year, it really is impressive how many times both these teams step up and bury two free throws like it’s nothing. Usually when we get fouled on the men’s side I’m happy if we get a point out of it.
  10. First season really following and religiously watching the lady Hoosiers. Mostly been a men’s program fan previously. Gotta say, I know it’s the ball size, but seeing some of the shots go up that look like bricks off the back of the rim that just sit and go in is so bizarre. IU needs to make some adjustments at half to attack the press and cut down on the silly turnovers. On the defensive end, way too many easy layups for the Terps. Gotta help on the backside on those lobs into the post, and switch on the drives into the lane to help off and cut the lane to the bucket. They looked rattled. I think that press is speeding everything up for them with the ball. Cut it to 6-8 in the third quarter and you give yourself a shot.
  11. Wouldn’t mind seeing some zone for the lady Hoosiers. Need to make it more difficult for the Terps to get through the lane. And goodness girls, make the simple pass on the press break.
  12. Indeed. Thanks for reminding me ;) In hindsight, I don’t regret my decision, because going to IU was all I ever wanted as a kid, even before playing collegiate soccer was a factor. I loved every second of it, and getting to be a part of a national powerhouse and play for Coach Yeagley (Jerry) and be a part of the family is something most don’t get the opportunity to do. That being said, 20 years later, would it have been just as rewarding taking the scholly and going to UCLA or Notre Dame, etc. and owning a nice 500hp fishing boat instead of owing SoFi until I turn 70.....? The short answer: my advice to Luke would be take the free education and run young man.
  13. Makes sense the more I think about it. I tried to do some research but couldn’t find any data - but I’m curious what percentage of teams ranked in the Top 25 at the end of the regular season are given seeds of 6 or better in the tourney. Since the 24 teams with a 6 seed or better would logically be meant as the top 24 teams, I wonder if there’s any correlation or if the polls are a completely useless indicator. I have always operated under the assumption that if you could earn a top 20 ranking in the polls, the likelihood of getting a 4 seed or better followed - which is really the only reason I’ve cared about being ranked come selection Sunday. Have you (or anyone else) seen anything about which rankings most accurately predict seeding? (i.e. KenPom, NET, RPI, AP Poll, etc.)
  14. I don’t know his family’s situation, but as someone who chose to go to IU as a walk-on at IU to play soccer instead of taking scholarship offers from other programs because it was my dream school, my advice to him (as I sit here with six figures of student loan debt) is take the free education son. You can be a Hoosiers fan the rest of your life without being an alumni.
  15. So, at what point do we stop caring about the opinions of associated press members for rankings? Why don’t we just move to KenPom or the NET rankings instead? The more I think about it, the more out of touch it seems to use beat-writers as a barometer of the country’s best b-ball teams. Maybe that was reliable in a time before the internet and satellite dishes that allowed just anybody to watch every game played if they wanted. Then I could see AP members having access to game tapes of additional teams than the public and a more informed opinion on rankings; but now we’ve got metrics ranking systems that are unbiased and more comprehensive in comparing teams. Why are we still giving sports writers and coaches that potentially aren’t even seeing as much basketball as some mega fans of the game, be the basis for judging superiority with rankings? UspsHoosier, you may be opening my eyes a bit the last few days, to the irrelevancy of the polls.
  16. Felt like a “no-movement” stay at #12 would have been warranted right? Especially with Iowa having just beat UM and entering the polls themselves. Double OT Loss on the road to a Top 25 team. Yeah. Harsh. Lot of opportunities to get into the top ten before end of the season. That road win at Rutgers is going to continue to look better and better too. I think if the lady Hoosiers can win the B1G and snag a 2-seed in the NCAA’s and avoid a matchup with Baylor/UCONN/Stanford/South Carolina until the Elite 8, they would be in good shape with the right matchups and upsets to potentially make a Final Four run.
  17. That’s really interesting. So the conclusion you can draw from that then, is that the polls maybe give a team credit for simply playing more Quad 1 games even if they lose them. So basically strength of schedule. So if IU would have played in Maui or another higher profile early season tourney and gotten beat by KS or KY, say, then we might be ranked at 11-5 instead of our current situation unranked at 13-3?? Some strange logic.
  18. I guess I stand corrected in believing OSU would drop out of the AP Poll after losing 4 in a row (apologies to uspsHoosier, as you were right on about that) I think both they, and Michigan, are benefiting from some early season wins against UNC that shouldn’t hold as much weight by now since the Heels are a tire fire. I guess you can justify UM in the Top 20 based on their win over Gonzaga, but they lost 5 of the 7 games after that win against teams not named Presbyterian or UMass Lowell. OSU and IU should be switched in my opinion. They got a win against Nova before their Sophomore stud started to breakout, and the aforementioned UNC win means nothing now. Losing 4 in a row, no matter the conference or competition should be enough to determine you’re not a Top 20 team in the country. There must be a shortage of one-loss or two-loss mid-majors this year that always seem to find their way into the back half of the Poll come conference play time.
  19. Illinois replaces PSU in the polls coming in at #24. Hard for me to get onboard with OSU as the 21st best team in the country when they’re tied for last in their own conference and have lost four straight.
  20. I’ve been getting invested in the women’s team this year due to frustrations with the men, and their national ranking. Love the team. One senior, they’re gonna be tough to deal with next year. Admittedly don’t have many years of experience watching ladies b-ball, but is the traveling call different than in the men’s game?? The Cizzano (sp?) girl had a couple of the most blatant traveling violations down the lane I’ve ever seen, and not even the announcers said anything. Also on the subject, the advancing the ball from full court to half court by using a timeout is pretty lame. There was only 0.4 left (though seemed like it should have been 2.0) but that is weak that they didn’t have to heave it the length of the court and could have gotten a shot off for the win at the end of regulation.
  21. Been a bad weekend in the B1G to be ranked. Ranked B1G teams went 0-4 this weekend. Maybe you’re right, I’m okay if IU sits in the “others receiving votes” category for another week.
  22. Man, Michigan about to go down at Minny. Can’t remember the last time 8 teams had 3 or more losses only five games into conference play. Crazy.
  23. Maybe human error since it was a single AP voter?? Purdue hasn’t been ranked in the polls since they lost to Texas in their second game of the season. It’s obvious you don’t like the AP polls, but just for the sake of discussion, let’s use the Coach’s poll or the ESPN Power Rankings. How do you justify which of the B1G teams at 2-10 in the conference standings deserve a national ranking?
  24. You don’t think OSU drops out of the top 25?? They’ve lost four in a row, and are tied with Northwestern for 14th in the B1G. Can you really have a team ranked, with 12 teams above them in the conference rankings? The optics seem tough on that.
