Guess I will use this as the “(Women’s) College Basketball” thread, so as not to upset anyone there who would not appreciate the clutter to their men’s CBB chatter. But, Michigan up 11 over Iowa late in the third quarter. If they can hold on, the Lady Hoosiers would be 1 game out of first place. Two big games this week with the rivalry game at Purdue and then hosting Maryland three days later at the Hall. Think our conference title hopes hinge on this week’s results. Edit: Michigan really opened it up before end of the 3rd Q. Up 17. Gonna be a tough comeback for Iowa unless they have a Hoosiers V. Wiscy 4th Q in them.

I’d be down for this. Sounds pretty interesting. Could this be a league fee, fantasy football type thing with a winner, or is it just for fun?

Gonzaga will survive. But still think their conference has insulated them from ending up a 2 or 3 seed where they more likely deserve to be based on talent and not record.

Rough day for ranked teams in the Big East. Seton Hall lost. Nova down 9 to Creighton with 5 mins to play.

Trace got mauled on the post and no call. Brunk doesn’t seem like he’s versatile enough to guard Wesson. Could we not try Justin Smith on him for a possession or two with how far away from the basket he likes to play? Also, Al makes every pass like he wants to take it back three quarters of the way through making it.

You know, everyone talked “Good Devonte/Bad Devonte” early in the season and our frustrations were with wanting more good Devonte. His talent and ability to make shots was something we needed on this team, if he could improve his decision making. What I see now is a kid who has been drilled so hard about being smarter and not taking bad shots, that you’ve got a dilluted version of the good Devonte we need of this team is gonna win. He is thinking so hard about making passes that won’t get him benched that what made him valuable, his confidence and ability to fire off three 3’s in a row and keep us in the game is gone. He’s playing to please, instead of with his instincts. And it’s actually causing more turnovers and missed shots. He’s everybody’s favorite black sheep, but he’s the best shooter on the team and if you haven’t noticed, the other guards aren’t an upgrade - they’re just safer options with lower ceilings. But I know, I’m an enabler.

What a train wreck. Yeesh.

What is the pack line defense intended to prevent exactly?

USPS, with your affinity for college hoops, you may want to look into getting an Amazon Firestick and jail-breaking it. I get every station in the world. There’s a sports app that literally has links to every college basketball being televised no matter how local the station sometimes down to the DIII level.

Unfortunately, the NCAA is a joke and every college program now knows that unless you self report, they aren’t going to do anything. Louisville literally paid for prostitutes to have sex with teenagers, on campus, while recruiting them, and all they had to do was fire a sleezy coach and “sit out” a postseason in a year they weren’t making the tourney anyway. Two years later they got a coaching upgrade, are ranked #6 in the country and have a top 5 recruiting class next year. Bill Self flat out states in a text he’s paying for recruits, and months later wears a gold dollar sign chain to midnight madness while Snoop Dogg makes it rain fake dollar bills on the fans. Top-5 team and a top five recruiting class coming next year. (Also a contract extension signed with Adidas) The NCAA is not going to do anything except delay their investigation and response for as long as it takes for the public to forget about it enough to not notice they didn’t do anything at all. Too much money at stake. The big machine has to keep turning.

Totally respect that. And it might work out that SDS rolls into the final four and were that good all year. I’m just saying, if you had your choice, and you could pick your region, it would be hard not to take the SDS 1-seed region, given they haven’t played against a ranked team all year (I realize Iowa is now ranked, but they weren’t) and barely beat a 7-15 San Jose St. team by 2 points at home three weeks ago. Me personally, I’m playing the percentages and avoiding Baylor, Kansas, Duke, Louisville, Gonzaga or Florida St. all day and taking the route through undefeated SDS to the FF.

Undefeated may indeed warrant a 1-seed regardless of the team’s strength. But I have to say I would take that region of the bracket all day over one with Baylor as the 1-seed and Duke as the 2-seed. Maybe it’s just optics, but I would take potentially playing a relatively untested San Diego State team on the way to a final four over a traditional power 5 program who has played and beaten brand name teams all conference season and is stocked with McD’s All-Americans. Nothing against SDS either, I felt the same way earlier in the season when bracketology had us as a 9-seed with a potential matchup with 1-seed Butler. Yes please was my only reaction.

I would love, love, love this kid at IU. But he just has the feeling of a kid that will play his way into a late-to-the-game Kentucky/Kansas/Duke offer that he accepts the same day. Hope I’m wrong, but seems to be our MO the last few years to pray for a top 20 recruit for two years only to be outbid (literally and figuratively) at the end of the recruiting process by a big name coach.

Thanks for the insight. Is Moren a tough personality to play for that you know of? Does that have anything to do with the frequency of transfers? I know very little of her, but she does look pretty stoic on the sidelines. Maybe not very player friendly? (Although I don’t get that impression from the interactions with her players or the comments of former players like Tyra Buss)

I meant it to express my confusion about the transfer. I’m just getting started around here as a poster, so still learning the ropes. :) I read a bit more about this in an article and now realize that Bendu has a family member in deteriorating health, so I’m more understanding to that situation. But hearing about our heir apparent to Ali Patberg, Shaila Beeler, transferring has me still perplexed. I wish we had someone with inside knowledge of the women’s program like we have for the guys; because I’m wondering if the recent losing streak and struggles against lessor teams are a part of something that has been festering internally similar to how the men’s team let things spiral out of control last year. Because it doesn’t all add up. Best team in program history. Star PG gets granted a 6th year of eligibility. Big time transfer will be eligible next year. Attendance is up and interest (I’m an example) is at an all-time high. Yet, zero recruits signed for next year, while several in-state recruits went elsewhere. Team starts playing with less effort to start games and a hits 3-game losing streak followed by underwhelming play at home against the bottom of the conference. The best recruit in this year’s class (was #18 nationally) leaves mid-conference play. Seems like there may be more than meets the eye somewhere in the team or coaching staff right?? Maybe I jinxed them. As soon as I become a loyal follower, things go to hell. I mean, my first semester at IU Bobby Knight WAS fired and 20 years of mediocrity ensued. Maybe I should stay away.

What is going on?? Something stinks about this and Yeaney’s announcement. We are a good/great team, and have seniors to learn from and eventually take over for in a year. What are we recruiting like Kentucky, where if they aren’t featured as freshman they bolt for being disrespected?? I didn’t think this was as big an issue on the women’s side and it was more common to play sparingly your fresh/soph years. Your team is 17-5 and a Top 20 team. If you think you should be getting more minutes, earn them. I’m sure Moren would love to be a Top 5 team because playing her freshman over her Junior PG made them a more dominant team. Man, just when I got excited about the women’s program and started giving them my attention the wheels start to fall off. I don’t really understand this one at all. She’s part of a top 25 team, one that gave her a full year of support getting her rehabbed, and plugged her into a very good lineup and started giving her minutes even though she’s still finding her basketball legs again and was clearly not the same player yet. With no significant recruits coming in next year, it’s not like she’d be falling well down the bench. She would have as good a chance as anywhere else to earn starting minutes and contend for a conference title and a run in the tourney. Just doesn’t make a lot of sense. It also isn’t like when a player transfers so they can go to a team where they will get their name in lights to bolster their draft status, because she doesn’t seem like a WNBA candidate. Head scratcher. I’ll say this though, Moren had better be hitting the grad transfer market HARD this offseason. We have the potential to be a top 10 team next year with everyone returning and Danielle being eligible; but we are gonna need some depth. And for the sake of the positive momentum of the program, we need a big year in 2020 and some big recruits for 2021 when we’ll lose some serious talent. Mackenzie Holmes and Jorie Allen are a good foundation, but will need to replace Patberg, Berger and Gulbe with some good young talent for them to play with as upper class(wo)men. Coaching staff will need to earn their money to keep from missing out on this historic time for the program and falling back to the bottom of the pack.

Good to hear Izzo wasting his time recruiting a kid who’s just going through the motions until he commits to Duke. Less time he will spend trying to poach Indiana kids. Go get ‘em Tom!
