Definitely a fork in the road there for the program. We probably have at least 1 maybe more Titles with Sampson…but we’ll never know, will we? People forget we told on ourselves. It was not the NCAA. 99.9% (we being the 0.01) of the other programs continue on their merry way with nobody ever hearing a word about it. Partly because many were doing far worse, you know, like hiring prostitutes, coordinating fake classes, paying players etc..sure, there were things Sampson needed to have cleaned up personnel wise, but that could’ve been a pretty benign and easy task to do. I recently listened to a podcast Gordon had with AJ Guyton on the Field of 68. It’s a good listen. Mentions he still doesn’t understand why the University had to act during the middle of the season. At least wait till the season plays out as they had aspirations to win the Title and then go from there. The moment we self-reported was the moment the trajectory changed drastically.

I agree that he hasn’t been utilized to the maximum…I always have felt more plays should be run for him, especially since he’s our one legit threat from outside. With that said he’s not a one and done player like I think he thought he was. No coach would’ve changed that. Regardless, the Staff needs to be already on it ensuring he stays. Sit him down and come up with a plan that’s going to enable him. No reason why he shouldn’t be option 1a or 1b next year. He’s going to be a bona fide star once he figures everything out. We can ill afford to lose Mgbako and I strongly feel that way. If he didn’t have the tag of a top 10 player, a lot would be really happy with the way he’s played and developed over the season. Before Woodson targets the important portal season, he needs to lock down Mgbako and Reneau.

May to Louisville is what we need to watch for.

Interesting point. It would be one thing if these were out of state guys (that's for Rosemond and Hunter)...but these are in State. -
You know it's bad when ISU has a team better coached, prepared and frankly much better overall than IU. This should never happen under ordinary circumstances, yet here we are. We're not even a top 2 team in the state. You can make an argument top 3.

Agreed. It’s part of the system as well…forget Tamar Bates look at Miller Kopp as well. He’s lighting it up in the G league too.

About to say this. It’s why I said yesterday that we can grab all the talented guards, shooters in the portal but if Woodson refuses to change his schematics, it’s really a moot point. I can’t believe I’m saying this in 2024 but we practically play in a system where the 3 point line doesn’t exist. Do you know we’re one of the few P5 programs that have a negative point differential for the year? We are getting obliterated on the 3 point line. As Hummel said in the broadcast on Friday, “you can’t play like this in today’s game…the 3 point line is everything and it puts IU at such a huge disadvantage the way they play.” Many IU folks know basketball, it’s what differentiates us from other fanbases and it’s why Woodson is getting deserved heat. They see a product on the floor that is lousy and yet in many ways is fixable but we have a Staff that continues to defy the odds by continuing to play this same boring system despite hard evidence and facts that prove otherwise. It doesn’t work and yet Woodson won’t change.

Dusty will want to start brand new. He’s not going to risk and come on Woodson’s staff when he doesn’t have the final say…his next job will be here, maybe Louisville? Time will tell. -
Which furthers the points to the fact that it’s great if Woodson is able to grab the best players out of the portal…but talent will only take you so far if he’s unwilling to make adjustments to his coaching style.
