Yup and he could very well be the wrong hire too. Issue is, we won’t know till after the fact. We don’t have the luxury to find out. Let’s get serious and get a proven power 4 winner -

McCollum would be such a gut punch. Let’s have a guy with no experience run a multi million dollar corporation. This would be such a McRobbie type hire. Thankfully, I believe we have an admin that values sports now -
False.

LOL. We told on ourselves with Sampson while other High Major Programs were doing far worse…and look what has come of it since. Consistent suckage and Sampson is a HOF coach now who is very reputable within the coaching arena.

I know, it’s shocking to some of you. But that’s not the case though…he’s not some emergency. He’s a viable candidate. -

Good post. Of course, if we get Stevens that is awesome. But it comes down to the fork in the road. If it’s between Beard and a McCollum and we choose McCollum…well you get the point. It’s this line of thinking and decision making which reflects why we’ve sucked for so long. Many of these same people probably didn’t want Pitino or Pearl or didn’t like Sampson…yet there’s a common denominator with all 3 coaches…they have National Title Contending Programs seemingly every single .year. Beard has a far more likelihood of succeeding here than a lot of names being thrown out….but sure, let’s hand over the reigns a guy that has coached 2 quad 1 games in his life, has all his players leaving after this year and pray to God he turns into Bo Ryan and not a Todd licklighter, or Archie Miller or the countless of other “up and coming coaches.” Give me a break. -

I’ll end with this. To the dismay of the small yet very loud minority, Beard would be supported and win here. He’s always been a viable candidate. I also trust Dolson, to make the right decision whoever the coach may be. -

Beard has done this at schools that are not easy to win at. Heck, he probably wins a Title at TTU if not for the corner 3 from the UVA player in the title game. What he’s done at Ole Miss is nothing short of remarkable. Beard would win big here…it’s the exact reason why we’re looking at him…or as Rabjohns put it “thawing of the ice.” Indiana is at a fork in the road…do we want to have a REaL chance of winning again or do we go and hire another less than able or more risky coach with no high major experience while hoping for the next “Bo Ryan?” Far too often we’ve taken the wrong road which has led us to where we are. How many times over the years could we have had Pearl, Pitino, kept the HOF coach like Sampson? Multiple times. Instead, we hire the guy who is boring and doesn’t fit in the fishbowl at IUBB. It doesn’t work. If we end up getting a Schertz, McCollum, etc over Beard that will be a very tough pill to swallow as it’s the exact same play that we’ve made (sans Sampson) over the past 25 years. -

You’re fine to have your opinion…you don’t need to gaslight the situation. We get it…you are against the Beard hire. You’re not going to convince the many others that are for Beard otherwise. -

Lol. I’m going to go out on a limb and say you’re the same type of person who would NOT like Scott Drew because he shows his Faith. -

To the dismay of some…the majority of IU nation would support a Beard hire. Will there be some that won’t? Sure. No hire outside of maybe Stevens is going to garner 100% of support…and as @Ghost of Rick Majerus noted, when Beard starts winning at the rate we haven’t seen in 25 years (outside of Sampson years) I suspect most of the people not happy with the hire initially will support the program. To me it’s simple. I’m a Brad and Dusty guy and if they’re a no go, then I’m taking a Beard, Drew or Pearl. We don’t need to take some risk on Mcollum, Schetz, etc. it should never get to those guys. I mention Drew…yet there some people that aren’t thrilled with him either because he’s “too religious.” FYI - I have no issue if a man shows his Faith. I would fully support Drew too. -

I’m a graduate like yourself of Indiana…im very aware of Bloomington. He would have plenty of support. You and your firm may stop donating, that’s fine. Indiana basketball will never die. Beard is a candidate. Maybe he becomes the coach, maybe not…regardless, I trust Dolson. -

Beard has always been a viable candidate. Let’s see what comes of it…they’re certainly not saying he’s going to be the next Coach…but this should dispel any notion that Beard has no chance… -

Beard has always been an option. I’m not here to debate Beard or not…I understand why people like him and why some don’t. What I will tell you, is that he would win big at Indiana. Whether that happens or not…who knows, probably not based on our hiring history, but to say he has a zero chance of getting hired is incorrect…and as has been stated before, Beard definitely wants to be at Indiana.
