Maybe because DeVries had tremendous LONG TERM success at Drake and has WVU in the tournament. -

Yup…and according to Andershock with Peegs, McCollum isn’t even Iowa’s first choice…it’s Devries and McCollum is one their back ups if Devries says “no.” -

Well…we could’ve had May last year and I was certain this year before he signed extension. Of course we decided to keep Woodson. Sigh… -

I don't think Mcdermott or Cronin have failed. They're not necessarily my first picks, but I would choose them over Mccollum and my guess is most people would. For a high major like Indiana, failing is not winning on a consistent level, not having us compete for Big Ten titles every couple of years and someone who doesn't have us competing for Final Fours every several years. I'm not placing my trust or bets on Mccollum to do any of that until he's got more experience other than D2 and 1 year at Drake with 2 quad 1 games (both of which weren't great teams either) under his belt...as you said, it's "no guarantees." I think we have some guarantees this time around. -

I understand this sentiment, I just don't think we're going to get there. Remember, one can make a strong case that we will hire someone that is not on any of the "hot boards" or "coaching lists" made from the writers. -

Yup. He most certainly would've taken OSU which came open shortly after...and frankly, I think he probably would've had more success at OSU then here. Again, Indiana is not for the faint of heart. You have to want it... embrace the expectations. You're the face of the University. -

Listen...I get it. We've been stung with the previous hire (Woodson) but the prior hires were actually supposedly very good hires at the time. You want to temper expectations...surely not be disappointed again. I don't think we need to worry about it this time...but yes, I'm taking countless D1 coaches, like Mcdermott, Devries, Tommy LLoyd and the countless of other names mentioned over Mccolllum. -

Wes Miller was indeed a very hot name, so was the dude from FGCU…though I guess he had some slightly above average years at USC. Next year it will be a different name. It’s the same thing every year. Some mid major coach is the next sure thing. Some work out, others don’t. It’s not necessary for us to find out this go around. -

People can try and convince themselves and compare McCollum to Dusty (which we’ve seen) or Stitz to a starter on a high major top 25 team…whatever to make themselves feel better about a potential McCollum hire…but yes, it would be a pretty underwhelming hire, of which hopefully won’t happen…because if it does happen then we missed out on multiple targets -

As bad as Archie was…I really think people are quick to forget that CAM was the hottest young coach on the market. Seemingly every off season a new high major would come calling for him. Unfortunately, as is the case with some coaches in a lesser league…it didn’t work out. Kelvin was a top coach at OU, and Crean (albeit maybe not the top) was still a well-known coach. In the NIL era…we can and will pull. We are a sought out job -

Big difference. I know a coach who has been on The Staff’s of both mid major and high major….theres a big difference in talent. Just because someone is good at the mid major level is far from a guarantee that it would translate to high major. -
