Last year’s Senior Day speech seemed like it was the beginning of the end for Woodson. He could’ve gone about it a couple of different ways and chose the worst way. There was no turning back after that. Pretty sure, that was the most uncomfortable Senior Day we’ve had. -

I wouldn’t expect it to get this far…but if it did, I agree. -

I understand your logic. Past history shows these would be “no’s.” Let’s see what happens…I have a feeling Dolson is getting a good one here. -

That’s up to Scott Dolson to decide. I don’t think it will come to the point of a McCollum hire. -

Listen…with regard to McCollum…if you have your first 8-9 coaching candidates say no (which won’t happen) then call him…but he shouldn’t be on anyone’s top 5 -

Yes. We can do all that with a more viable candidate. -

Those schools situations are different. UK, UNC, Duke all hired former successful players. Syracuse and Villanova hired coaches that were hand picked to be the next coach from their legendary predecessor coaches where they were loyal assistants to them. McCollum isn’t a former player of Indiana nor was or will he be hand picked by Bob Knight (RIP). UL hired Pat Kelcey who was a gamble. So far so good…but Kelcey had far more experience at D1 than McCollum. -

That’s not true though. Division 1 is so much different now than Division 2. Plus All those guys I mentioned, the Groces, the Archie Millers were all winners before and they COULD NOT WIN at Indiana or their selective schools. Hell, Archie went to the Elite Eight! McCollum has never come close to winning something like that. @Stuhoo mentioned the greatest example, can’t remember his name…but another tremendous D2 coach (much like McCollum) who jumped to D1 and couldn’t successfully make the jump…and this was before NIL collectives, revenue sharing, agents, etc… -

What I’m saying is I’m not taking a chance on some career D2 coach with 1 year at a mid major (a mid major btw that has a lot of success regardless coach) to run a multi million dollar entity that is IUBB. This is the exact type of hire where there is a legit chance in four years from now where we’re making another change and you’re wondering what went wrong. -

I wonder what Iowa fans thought when they hired Todd Licklighter or IU fans when they hired Archie Miller (I know how I felt) Or Illinois fans when they hired John Groce Or Minnesota fans when they hired Dan Monson. I could go on…there are many more examples of coaches failing to make the jump to high major.…and all those coaches had FAR more experience in division 1 than McCollum. D2 to Indiana in 1 year is a crazy jump. The point is, it’s a gamble…a gamble that is not necessary this go around. We don’t need to hire McCollum when there’s more viable candidates with far more experience. -

We don’t need to hire McCollum. We have better, more experienced viable candidates. It’s not necessary to take a gamble on the most important hire in the history of our program. -

If mccollum is the next coach - which I’m pretty sure he won’t be - then any chance of this program being a top 20 or even top 25 destination is out the window. You don’t select someone hoping and convincing yourself they’re the next Bo Ryan - when there is at least an equal chance he’s a Licklighter or Archie - to operate a multi million dollar program with top of the line resources. He’s not the hire to make at this time. -

Absolutely. Questions about their commitment level to their basketball program are valid -

He’s a former FSU player…been there done, that: it’s not a very good hire plus there’s a lot of questions surrounding FSU’s commitment to their basketball program. -

OK. Let me be more specific. 3/5 or 60% of their starting lineup will be gone next year. That's a lot of production and minutes to replace. At this time... He would be a bad hire when we have so many other viable candidates. -

Very positive. We can't compare McCollum to Cignetti like we can't compare our football program to our basketball program. Its apples to oranges. -

Again...to hire someone like this over a Chris Beard (who wants the job) or a Scott Drew, makes little sense. If Stevens fall through...fork in the road...which way are we going to choose. Time will tell. I trust Dolson to make the right decision. -

There are literally folks that said he’s “too religious.” They have every right to have that opinion…I don’t care…but you can’t have your cake and eat it too. Relax -

Hoosier987 replied to JaybobHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Let’s see how he does next year when he losses most of his team. We don’t know how he’ll do, because there’s literally no history with him. We don’t need to take that risk and pray and try to convince ourselves he’s the next Bo Ryan. We’ve been there and done that. At this time, with all our NIL resources McCollum wouldn’t be a good hire. -

Further…besides all the other red flags of someone with no experience taking over a program such as IUBB is the likelihood that McCollum takes a significant step back next year…as he is losing the majority of his players. I’m curious to see how he navigates the portal building a new team. How will he rebuild? We have no idea because there is nothing to refer back to with McCollum…another reason why he doesn’t need to be coaching here.
