They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread
iu eyedoc replied to Banksyrules's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Hard to say when you just repeatedly play a stagnant offense determined to pound it in the paint. Funny when you try to get shooters open with clean looks vs late desperation shot clock 3's, things change percentage wise. IU was awful at 3pt% but still 78 positions higher than their volume ranking. The only teams among the 271 schools to shoot less 3's with equal or better % were Texas State and Jackson state. Who else did you want attempting more 3's? Not sure why you are surprised a team that ignored the 3 pt shot as a weapon would be bad at it. You reap what you sow. Here is a list of the lowest ranking teams shooting the 3 as a % of all shots. Strangely a very similar list as those that shoot low volume and bad percentage and again, no other major program other than IU in sight. As far as questions are concerned, please give even a single good reason Woodrow has been unable to recruit or bring in via portal, a single good 3 pt shooter in the three offseasons prior. If Miles Rice continues to shoot 27.5% from 3 next season or Carlyle continues his sub par 3 pt shooting are you going to be exclaiming, " Who else did you want attempting more 3's? " like a good Woodrow apologist? I mean sure no one is expecting him to hang with Tarleton State, but... -

There is no excuse, no explanation, no reasoning that could ever justify IU occupying this territory among not a single other power 5 school. The shooters were Woodrow's, the coaching and training was Woodrow's, the game plan was Woodrow's. His off season laziness resulted in what was seen last season, has he changed his ways after last seasons disaster? Short term it seems so, but I doubt he had an epiphany at 66 years old that he will now be a tireless recruiter every off season. -

For everyone's sake I have drawn up the IU Fandom Manifesto: Official Blind Faith Fan Membership Form 1)Must unwaveringly love IU basketball ____ 2) If living in a 300 mile radius, must attend at minimum one IU game yearly, extra fan points awarded for going to Xmas break games. Extra extra points awarded for not sitting motionless like a 80year old log for 2 hours. ____ 3) Harshest criticism with regard to roster, recruiting and in game substitutions shall be limited to,"I don't understand that move by CMW, but since I lack his experience, I must just not see it." ____ 4) The hump is always to be presumed to be just over the horizon.____ 5)While watching any game in person or at a bar, the sound "boo" is never to be uttered unless followed by "yah."____ 6)Watching IU play teams that would finish 3rd in the IU rec tourney at the HYPER must be met with complete enthusiasm.____ 7)Any person thought to be critical of coaching, the trustees, players, scheduling must be immediately questioned about their fandom, encouraged to leave, and be told they will not be missed.____ 8)Next born child shall be named Bobby, Steve, Damon, Isaiah,or the intials TJD, regardless of sex.____ Please initial each blank and sign below and circle species most identified with. I spanked my young children when they did wrong. They have done things as teens I didn't agree with and I have voiced my displeasure with their actions and taken away driving privileges and/or grounded them . Funny thing is I still love them and are a true fan of the men they have become. If I had a boss I don't think she would take well to those actions either...well, since this is hypothetical maybe I will imagine having a hot kinky boss. -

His double technical "get me the hell out of here" quit on the team is etched in my brain. Overpaying the 4th guy off the bench to call out your critics on Senior/Not Senior night doesn't change that fact. -

You both also will seemingly spend about the same amount of time and energy in the off season trying to reach those goals. -

I heard Woodrow misread GCHS and thought all the cars were parked in GCC parking lot( Greenfield Country Club). When a cart attendant never came to his car for his clubs, he walked into the gym and asked "one of the the tall lanky kids" to stop goofing around and to load his bag and direct him to the clubhouse bar. -
Expectations for the 24-25 Season

20-11 11-9 and a 3 way tie for 5th in the B1G would be a disaster. So about right. -
Expectations for the 24-25 Season
iu eyedoc replied to Unexpectedflash's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Expectations by talent: Slightly better season than last with a down B1G. Sweet 16 loss. Expectation by roster and STAFF: A bit better with some big losses starting in the Bahamas. More perplexed frustration. A hump that seems to continually move down the road like a highway mirage. -

Per 40 minute stats for Cupps, TG and Cupps? Care to venture any guesses? You say a guy had low volume like it is a bad thing when he hit 26% .Truly crazy how you think high volume 3's are a good thing regardless of percentage. 26, 27.5, 32, 35% from three is bad at any volume. With the caveat that a 4 or 5 shooting 35% is acceptable to good, not because of the actual points per shot, but the way it opens up the floor when a big has to be honored on the perimeter. Wings shooting below 37-38% is not a good thing, ever. -

No I have been pointing out that your statement that some mythical improvement to 35% from 3 point shooting doesn't equal a significant improvement in OE. None of your pretzel logic makes it so. The "screaming" is just how you hear it in your head when your foolishness is pointed out. -

What does that have to do with every other offensive statistic that IU lacked in? The simple fact is your imaginary increase in 3 pt % and volume doesn't even get IU in the top 50 without improvement everywhere else. And there in lies the rub, whatever marginal improvement in talent $6M bought they are still being coached a bad brand of basketball and that trumps everything else. -

No you are assuming every single player takes huge leaps in efficiency and then your math still doesn't add up, so then you pretend math is subjective.
