Transfer Portal w IU Interest
iu eyedoc replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Woodrow seems well equipped to coach the 4 and 5. MM went from awful to, by the end of the year, about what was expected from the jump from a 5* recruit. That doesn't make him HC material that makes him a great special assistant. -

If Woodrow was special assistant in charge of centers and keeping players happy with NIL money that would be totally cool. HC...not so much -

Maybe Woodrow plan is to go with a starting 6? Rice Tucker Gallo MM Reneau C (TBD) He is calling it the 2-4 Inside Out+ offense and good luck breaking our 6 man press defense. -

He had an ultra experience ultra talented roster in 22-23 in: 1st yrJHS 5th yr XJ 5th yr Kopp 6th yr Race 4th yr TJD with first 3 off the bench Reneau Galloway Bates and finished a distant 2nd/3rd in the Big Ten and got shellacked in the round of 32. There are all kinds of reasons he will not build a top 25 team -

Would they be responsible for spending their NIL money on someone that would coach that style? -

This. Woodrow has no desire to run a modern offense that can function in this age of college basketball. There is absolutely no one available in the talent neighborhood of 4th yr TJD or a 7 foot #7 nationally ranked player looking to transfer in to buoy his archaic style. A top 4 seed NIT bid next season seems like a good O/U for next season. The only thing Coach Inside Out seems to consistently produce is apathy. -

More like you are enjoying the brief sunshine from inside the eye of hurricane Michael as it passes over. Which I have done twice living in the FL panhandle. -

I get it, but how does the powers that be not? I don't expect undying IU loyalty, but sadly bringing in some 5* wing to play in Woodrow's 1986 offense doesn't move the needle for me. That the next season is nothing more than some sacrificial season to stroke Woodson's ego and that he will most assuredly check out ( even more than he is now) by midseason is just aggravating, well at least as much as I can muster anymore with relation to IU hoops. -

Well, IU wasn't in the conversation a few days ago, but soon after the backers of the First Bank of Inside Out ball ponied up more to prop up the failing institution, he suddenly visits and commits in 2 days. It doesn't take a lot of guessing what his motivation is. And there is nothing wrong with him getting all he can, but overpaying a coveted recruit, overpaying the 4th to 6th man off the bench and overpaying a fan favorite shitty 3 point shooting guard should be 6th man is far from a recipe for success. As for Ware, he was a nice one season get and surely kept IU from being stone cold awful, but never did I sense any strong tie IU hoops. And again that isn't an awful thing, but anyone thinking overpaying mercenary talent is some panacea just look a few hundred miles south. What you get is a cheap knockoff version of chronically underperforming UK basketball with a disinterested outdated Dollar Store coach. -

There is a difference between a great player that wants to play at IU getting paid, and a great player that wants to be paid to play at IU. Maybe that subtle nuance is lost on you. -

The roster is decidedly worse than last years at this point, not sure why anyone thinks a 5* coming to be paid moves the needle. He is still being coach by a guy that doesn't understand college BB. At this point this is a sub .500 team. -

So it seems Woodson may buy a few high high talent players. But as far as cooking that is like the line cook at Taco Bell buying some truffles to add to his special recipe for inside out tacos. Then the same cook blaming the truffles when the meat falls all over the floor and the patrons are left with an empty shell and demand someone be held responsible. But the cook ain't worried, his bff is the manger and the two just swill Olde English and smoke Swisher Sweets by the dumpster while watching the Golf Channel while on break. -

I mean this was as predictable as the sunrise. You don't have to be a rocket surgeon to realize Woody would have a hard time getting any guard worth a flip and then he piled on with the stupid Inside Out take that was akin to scuttling your already sinking ship. Next year will be unwatchable. And spare me the true fan sh*t, when the administration and coaching doesn't care about the quality of the product why should I buy it? Do you think wealthy American Serbs climbed over each other to buy a Yugo out of loyalty just because the were made in Serbia? -

It's going to be interesting how they will spin it when IU can't buy more than middling talent. What aspiring NBA/G League/Euroleague shooter would want to come play for Inside Out Mikey. A few more 10s of thousands for poor guard coaching and exposure just ain't worth it. -

Kinda sad how MW and QB are becoming despised and reviled figures at IU. Funny thing is all it would take was MW saying, " I did my best to get IU back on the right path and I think making the NCAA's the first 2 years was a good start. Now it is time for me to retire and hand the baton to the next guy to take this team to the next level," and he would almost instantly return to every fans good graces. He obviously doesn't like the necessities of the job, not sure what his end game is if not to go out in a flaming bag of a dogsh*t of a season, or is he that oblivious to the situtation? -

His delusion is going to lead to a complete implosion. He will strike out on any significant talent in the portal. The roster will be a disaster, filled with middling talent, the best disinterested players money can buy. Woodson will mentally check out, if that is even more possible, by mid season( maybe he goes for a season record for double technical early exits). I don't even doubt he checks out before next season, when he gets turned down by several players whose names escape him and he realizes this season was as good as he was ever going to have it after TJD and JHS departed. -

Woodson's ejection was so obviously intentional. He was tired of watching shitty basketball, had no desire to coach them up, and knew he could get an hall pass to the locker room with just a few choice words to the ref. He showed zero emotion, it was merely his easy calculated early exit. The players knew it, it is obvious by their disinterest of him walking out. He quit on the players plain and simple. A disgraceful act that will lead to another neglectful offseason and a failure of the following season, all because he is a stubborn old sh*thead. -
