I don't want to get too far off topic here, but the other day on the Dan Patrick Show, he said he had a source who was speculating that the Southern Cal president (who's from Akron) might go after Gene Smith (Ohio State AD), who, in turn, would bring Urban Meyer to La La Land. -
I hate when people pull that crap. "I heard" his injury could be season-ending. What does that mean? I could say "I heard" he will play on Saturday and that the whole thing's a ruse to mess with Ohio State. It depends from whom you "hear" it. Hell, he could've heard it from his barber. That doesn't make it true. Unless you can back it up with facts -- or say from whom you heard it -- shut up.

Purdue in the late 1990s is the same. The Toiletmakers went 7-5 in 1984 and after that, didn't win more than five games a season until 1997, when coincidentally, they hired Joe Tiller. That stretch included four three-win seasons, a two-win season and a one-win season. They went 3-8 in 1996 in Jim Colletto's final season, then went 9-3 -- including a bowl win -- the very next year, which was Tiller's first. Were the players all the sudden significantly better from one year to the next? No. If you hire the right coach, it makes a difference. -
Knowing our overzealousness and penchant for self-reporting, we probably will vacate it ourselves within a week!

Beat them the very next year -- annihilated em, in fact -- 41-7 at Memorial Stadium. ... That was my junior year. Was John Cooper's first year in Columbus. ... AT ran for 190 yards and 4 TDs. ... Unfortunately, after beating OSU in back-to-back years, we haven't beaten them since. ... May have tied them since then (when there were still ties), but never beat 'em. -
I'm sure there are some tech savvy ways around it, but for now (officially), you still have to have NFL Ticket via Direct TV. The NFL is way behind every other league in terms of streaming games, but it is getting $1.5 billion a year from DirectTV. It's not going to turn away that kind of money. It sucks, too, because I live in Southeast Virginia and every week, we get the Redskins. Our other typical offerings are Steelers, Ravens and the other NFC East teams. Being from the Chicago area, I want to watch the Bears -- but really have no interest in going to a bar or signing up for DirectTV just do do so. Unfortunately, we're at the mercy of the NFL. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-09-08/the-nfl-will-stream-games-once-it-s-good-and-ready-just-not-yet

Joby Wright - A Look Back
LamarCheeks replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
When I first saw this new thread, my heart sank a little -- I thought I was gonna open it to see that Joby had passed away ... I was at IU when he left for Miami-Ohio. I knew he then went to Wyoming, but I never heard what happened to him after that. ... Glad to hear he's doing well. ... Happy Birthday, Joby ... Thanks for posting, Old Fart. -
According to a Bloomington Herald-Times story -- and I'm guessing the info came straight from a Tom Allen presser -- we missed 23 tackles against BS, which led to 181 yards. That's horrific. I never played organized football -- just sandlot with the gang in the neighborhood -- so I can't say I speak with any authority on this, but that seems like something that would be difficult to fix in one week. If after weeks and weeks of spring practice and summer camp, you don't know how to tackle -- yikes, that worries me. Of course, our defense has always worried me, so what's new? Maybe someone who knows more about football practice and techniques will tell me this can be fixed -- and quickly. I certainly hope so.

(2020) SF Jordan Geronimo to Maryland
LamarCheeks replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I just tried to click on a Star article about him and was denied access. Does anybody know if it has gone totally, 100 percent to subscription-only? It used to be you'd get 5-10 articles a month for free -- or something like that -- before you'd either have to pay or were turned away. -
Prayers to anybody who might be in the path of Dorian. He/she is proving to be a monster. And just a few days ago -- after forming -- it was considered to be a relatively small storm as hurricanes go. It sure grew up in a hurry. I'm in Virginia Beach, so we could see some affects by Thursday night/Friday morning or afternoon. It's still way too early to determine exactly what those affects might be. But those along the Florida, Georgia, S.C., and N.C. coasts will get the worst of it. Stay safe, everyone!
