Cody Latimer - Orlando Guardians (XFL)

Probably not all that surprising. -
Was really happy to see him thank his mofos!

All I want to know is what do the ACC, SEC and Big 12 medical people and administrators know that the B1G's don't? Or vice versa. I get mid-majors like Mountain West and MAC pulling the plug on spring football -- they don't have money to continually test players and staff and really work to ensure their safety. But it seems to me (and I'm sure I'm being too simplistic here) that the Power 5 conferences should be on the same page -- either everyone plays, or nobody plays.

I saw that video just the other day, and remember when that happened. I was at school during that time, but wasn't quite old enough to hit the bars yet (and probably was one of the few under-21 people on campus who didn't have a fake ID). Part of the problem for me was that even though I'm a follicly challenged, wrinkly old coot now, back then I was 19 -- and looked like I was 12, so presenting a fake ID might have been a tough sell anyway. ... Later on, when I did come of age, I did hit the Bluebird a few times -- however, John and Lou never showed up!

New Assistant Coach Hire Candidates
LamarCheeks replied to Stuhoo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I keep reading (not necessarily here) about Calbert or either A.J. -- Moye or Guyton. Hey, I love those guys and what they did for IU, but I'm not sure they have the coaching chops to take on a position like this. I absolutely love Calbert -- I was at IU when he was there and as you can tell from my avatar, he's my all-time favorite Hoosier. But it just doesn't seem as if his heart is in full-time coaching. We need the best person we can get -- who can develop players during practice, coach and adjust during games and recruit. I just don't think any of those guys fit that bill right now. Let's get the best person available -- regardless if he's an IU guy or not. -
(2019) PF Trayce Jackson-Davis to INDIANA
LamarCheeks replied to Uspshoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
There's a story on iuhoosiers.com about Lander joining the team with a photo of him wearing No. 4. Sorry if I missed it, but did TJD agree to change numbers? And of so, what digit(s) is he gonna wear? -
He's from my neck of the woods. Don't know much about him, though. https://www.pilotonline.com/757teamz/vp-sp-maurice-freeman-oscar-smith-commit-20200801-l2iheymeyfhf3i5n6tehevgg3u-story.html

Lou and RMK locked horns many times over the years. Just watched a show on the Flyin' Illini the other day. Interesting season: We won the B1G, yet they beat us twice, so they got the No. 1 Midwest seed, while we got shipped out West. I always thought Lou was a little dirty, and I hated that they beat us twice in '89 -- but I have to admit, it was fun a fun team to watch. I thought they'd win it all that season.

Someone left Diener (another ex-Crean player) wide open for a 3 and that's all the Golden Eagles needed -- 78 was the target score. Golden Eagles win 78-73.

Reminder: If you're interested, Mo Creek and Remy Abell play for the $1 million top prize in the title game of The Basketball Tournament tonight -- 7/14. They play the Golden Eagles, which includes one-time Hoosier Luke Fischer. Tipoff is 7 p.m. Eastern (ESPN).

Stew Robinson and Coach Knight
LamarCheeks replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Yes. I realize that. The story talked about a Madison Heights to IU pipeline. Held coached at Anderson High -- in the same town as Madison Heights. I heard that for some reason -- don't know if it's true or not -- that Held had a beef with Knight and didn't want kids from Anderson High to go to IU. -

The story referenced Madison Heights High School -- and how a handful of players went to IU. That school was in Anderson, where Norm Held coached for years. -

Really nice story. It referenced the Madison Heights pipeline to IU. I remember hearing that for whatever reason, Norm Held did not like Knight, and wouldn't send any kids to IU. Although I'm not sure how many kids Held coached that were major college material -- other than Troy Lewis and maybe Kojak Fuller and Andre Morgan. Don't know if that's true or not -- Held disliking Knight -- however. -

I actually thought before he got hurt -- when he could run and move and jump freely -- that he showed some pretty nice moves around the bucket, too. -
(2021) CG Jalen Blackmon

I realize that Grand Canyon U. is a real school and plays real Division I basketball. But whenever I hear of it, I can't help but think of the Western University Dolphins -- coached by Pete Bell -- who knocked off our Hoosiers some years back, with Butch McRae, Ricky Roe and Neon Boudeaux leading the way. -
Last player is Denzel Valentine. So, this is your BTN all-decade first team: Denzel Valentine, MSU Draymond Green, MSU Evan Turner, OSU Frank Kaminsky, Wisconsin Trey Burke, Michigan I think I would've replaced Turner with Sullinger, Oladipo or Winston. Not because of anything wrong with Turner's quality of play; I just think he belongs in the previous decade.
-
I think he should be included in the previous decade. To me, the 2009-10 season should be the end to the decade, not the beginning. I think the decade should start with the 2010-11 season and end with the 2019-20 season.
