  1. About to turn off my Cowboys to rewatch this game. 1) Felt it was a bold statement but seems like everyone is in agreement...Myles Rice I think is the best IU guard since Yogi. I know Ballo probably cost more NIL wise but Rice was the bigger get. Hope he continues to look good. 2) Was nice to see Malik step up. I was thinking there would be a 2012 Verdell or 2022 Race like drop off for him this year. 3) Pretty impressive considering Trey and Tucker were out. Carlyle I thought looked okay on defense? I may be wrong, Trey could be the starting two guard. 4) Three point shooting was meh. That was to be expected. Not to rain on the parade, I don't think Tennessee is #12 good. They deserve to be ranked. But Knecht was a huge loss. The announcer that sounded like Cleveland from Family Guy said it best, they need to find their go to guy. Not sure they have one. Glad they did this game. Outside the Battle 4 Atlantis the non-conference is awful which is upsetting.
  2. Not the best the team has played all season but may have been their most impressive win...outside of last week. Most adversity IU has faced all year. When it was 17-7 out of half and they throw the interception...that game could have gone the other way. Instead, they respond with a 14 play drive that results in 7. This team is different! 1) I thought Tayven did his job. He wasn't great. But good enough. I'll take the blame for the INT. Out of half I said out loud the most important thing so far is he hasn't turned the ball over. Would prefer Rourke to come back next week as long as he's capable. It sounds like he should play. 2) Last week on Gameday Thamel said that the only NFL talent IU has is Rourke. I disagree. Kamara has impressed me all year long. Feel like a few of the OL guys could get drafted as well. Surratt and potentially Ellison. Have zero clue where they get picked, but this team has more than one NFL player. 3) Funny seeing one loss #4 Ohio State beat Nebraska by 4. Meanwhile "#13" Indiana beats them by 49. Only B1G team I'm putting ahead of Indiana is Oregon.
  3. Curious to see what everyone thinks. I like to do this at the start of the year as far as averages for the season. Here is what I was thinking. Tell me where you think I'm wrong/right. Rice 32 Mgbako 27 Reneau 26 Ballo 25 Carlyle 22 Galloway 20 Goode 16 Tucker 14 Cupps 11 Hatton 7 There will be some games Cupps sees nowhere near that and probably some DNP's for Hatton. I can't trust Newton yet to put him in rotation. I think Rice is going to be the Alpha for this team. I think Carlyle and Galloway essentially split time. Depending on matchups there will be some games Galloway sees more playing time. Malik will see time at the 5. At Arizona Ballo played 25-27 minutes a game. That's 13-15 minutes left for him. Lineup I'd like to see the most: Rice, Carlyle, Tucker, Mgbako, Ballo/Reneau
  4. Not going to compare the two players as they are different but I'll compare the situations: I think what OG was in 2015-2016 is what Tucker will be for IU in 2024-2025. I love Fanta on the Field of 68. I'm trying to be careful not to fall for this again, but there is so much talent on this roster. This top 8/9 will compete with anyone.
  5. Same. It was awesome. If it wasn't for my daughter's first birthday, I'd be in Bloomington Saturday just for Gameday. College Football has been third on my sports rankings (1. NFL, 2. NCAAB) but I've always loved Gameday. That and FOX NFL Sunday. No biggie. I'll be there on November 9th when we kick Michigan's a**.
  6. I don't think I've ever planned a whole Saturday morning/afternoon around Indiana Football like I did today. I woke up and was just excited. That was awesome!!!! I will be in town November 9th for the Michigan game. Hope that Gameday is there and that IU keeps winning of course. They could set the single season program record for wins that day. What a time to be a Hoosier.
  7. Awesome article. I've always been a College Gameday fan. Have to think they will make an appearance in Bloomington before the season is over with. Best bet? Might be the 10/26 game against Washington. Georgia-Texas next weekend when Nebraska is in town. Alabama-LSU when Michigan plays IU. Not as many great games on the 26th. https://www.si.com/college/indiana/football/todd-s-take-bring-espn-college-gameday-lee-corso-back-to-indiana-01j9vtd8qw4s
  8. I absolutely want Mullins. It would be upsetting if IU were to lose an in-state recruit they have been in on since he was a Sophomore, maybe even earlier, to a school that really started working on him last winter/spring. That being said...buddy of mine at work that is an IU fan asked me this: would you rather have Mullins or the P12 FOY. Or Mullins vs. Carlyle. My answer was why not both? I personally think Mullins is a day one starter wherever he goes and would fit well here. That being said I'm really interested to see how this season goes. IF IU has a ton of success with Rice, Carlyle, Ballo, Goode I am not going to be devestated over losing a recruit, especially with portal success. Maybe IU can land the top guard in the portal next spring? This is certainly new territory for college sports as well as us as IU fans. I remember a lot of the media and even myself thinking there was no way IU could add enough in the portal to be competitive this year. On paper (that's all we have right now) Indiana SHOULD be among the top teams in the B1G and a team that is capable of making a run in the tournament. We will see how that goes. I don't buy yet that he's going to UConn. Let's wait and see. If he does, I get it. Back to Back National Champs. They've won 12 NCAA Tournament games in the last two years, IU has won one. Indiana HAS to start winning and doing that now. It's the same thing I said a year about about losing Fland to UK and McNeeley to UConn.
  9. I'd put the likely order as IU, UConn, UNC, right? Was originally going to announce before his season started in November but I would think that gets pushed up to very soon as in a week or two.
  10. Been off for a awhile over the summer. Hope everyone is doing well. Big get for Coach Woodson and co. I was worried Sisley was going to Purdue. This makes me feel good about a class with Harralson, Mullins, and Sisley. Most Hot Boards had Harralson/Mullins ahead of Sisley. Hopefully much better than the disaster of last year. My Cowboys are off to a rough start so Hoosier Hysteria can't come fast enough. Need basketball to get going! Fun time to be an IU Fan with Football and Women's Basketball being nationally relevant.
  11. Kind of glad it is. It's confusing knowing who can/can't come back.
  12. This. With Ballo and at times Reneau at the 5, it's not too attractive for someone like Malone. The shooter role, seems to be Goode, we can get someone good. But the backup 5 is probably going to end up being like a Durr or someone similar. If this person ends up playing 20 plus minutes for us we are probably screwed.
  13. I also think Arizona really likes their freshman center (I think his name is Krivas). He has more NBA potential I've read. Could be possible his minutes would decrease this year. I've seen a lot of guys that have the COVID year transfer (Gillis at Purdue is another example). Why some worried Galloway would transfer.
  14. Both Miami and Alabama, like us, had some nice pieces (Wong, Sears, etc). IU has 3 guys I think that would be top 50 portal players if they had went into the portal (Reneau, Mgbako, Galloway). We will see. It's all about how they fit and how they improve shooting wise. On paper, the best IU team in over ten years.
  15. I love the Field of 68 because of what they do for college hoops. They are like the NFL/NBA Network for the sport. However, you can tell if they really like a coach, they will hype them up. Ex: Dusty May and Pat Kelsey (who have done a good job this offseason). All they've talked about is Louisville and Michigan are killing the portal. They also think Mark Pope, a guy with 0 NCAA Tournament wins, is a good fit at UK. However, they crap all over IU still despite their haul in the portal. I've been critical of Woodson. I just find it odd that according to them if we need more shooting (Goode and Anderson) we are all of a sudden a legit threat. I think we already are. Odds are one or two of the sophomores make a jump. That's what it's going to come down to for us. If Rice, Carlyle and Mgbako become good three point shooters. If the answer is yes, IU has final four potential. If not, the ceiling is probably Sweet 16/2nd round. That is with/without adding Goode/Anderson.
  16. I think this could belong on this thread...I went back and looked at '22 and '23 portal rankings. In 2022 Miami got two top 20 kids (Pack and Omier). In 2023 Alabama got Estrada and Nelson. Both those teams made the Final Four. Not saying IU is Final Four bound, but teams who have stacked up the talent in the portal (mainly top 20) have done really well that season. For the most part the rankings are spot on. You have a few (Timberlake) that didn't produce. Those were really the only two teams that had multiple guys in the top 20. Nobody had 3 so what IU is doing is kind of unheard of in the portal.
  17. Right now: Fair Expectations: 1) Be a legit contender for the Big Ten Title. I won't list a place, but I think either be at the top or within 2 games of the top team. In 22-23, they finished 3 games Purdue. If I remember right there were a ton of 10-12 win teams in the Big Ten that year. 2) Two of Myles Rice, Kanaan Carlyle, and Mackenzie Mgbako will all be at least 35% + 3 point shooters. 3) Win at least one game in the NCAA Tournament. It is too early to tell the national landscape for next year. Also, we have no idea who they would be playing. Add in that this team has never played together before. I'll probabably get crushed for saying this. However, the highest I've seen IU in these "way too early" polls is 19. That's a second round team, 5 seed if you are going off expectations. Overall.. I think they will be a preseason top 20 team and top 4 in the Big Ten Preseason Polls. Wishes 1) Win a share of the Big Ten Regular Season or Big Ten Tournament. About time that happens. 2) This be the deepest IU team in over 30 years. With a few potential additions our top 10 could be looking nice. That being said...we said this in 2013, 2019, and 2023. I want to see it first. 3) Make AT least the Sweet 16. It is hard to project how they'll do in the NCAA Tournament. Look at this year. Several top ten teams got bounced (UNC, Arizona, Houston*, Iowa State, and Marquette). Make the Sweet 16 and anything can happen. That being said, 2002 was the last time IU made even the Elite 8, yet alone Final game. They are due. IMO it comes down to this...IU needs several guys to become legit threats from three point range. I think Rice, Carlyle, and Mgbako have potential. Malik and Trey are capable. Add in Goode and/or Anderson potentially. If this happens, I think they have the potential to make the Final Four. I can't say win it all yet because, we have never seen them play before. I'll say this portal season has been a home run. I wish one of our main additions was already a proven 3 point shooter. But I can't complain. They deserve credit for a much better showing in the portal this year. At minimum, it has me excited for next season.
  18. Best part of this potential addition..he wants to be here it sounds like. He probably would get more minutes at Illinois this upcoming season.
  19. OT here..went and looked at his predictions. He has Mason Gillis going to Duke. Didn't see that one coming.
  20. Shows he committed to Illinois after his junior year. Probably thought IU was a mess (which, it was at the time). I've read where certain guys (maybe Kyle Guy) wanted to come to IU but the coach at the time wasn't a fit (Crean or Miller).
  21. I liked that he's played on a high major. Illinois has had some good teams the last 3 years.
  22. Awesome! I assume this is the shooter you were refering to earlier. Would be a good fit for what IU needs.
  23. Not seeing the crystal ball pick.
  24. Did IU recruit him out of high school? Believe it would have been towards then end of Archie. Edit: Would love to have him here. Hope we get him. Just find it hard to believe he would leave for 15 minutes a game. I feel his role at Illinois would be bigger.
  25. I think shooter, center, and leave the open roster spot for development guy or someone unexpected.
