I can't see them playing Georgia as they will either move up or down. I don't see a home game unless Penn State and Georgia lose in a blowout fashion. Might need SMU to lose just so we jump them in the overall rankings.

I think it would be cool. Just because a team misses the playoffs doesn't mean it was a bad season. This way the next 12 teams get to play in a very good bowl. Even in the CFP era I still enjoyed watching NY6 bowls evern tho some players sat out. Unless IU is ever playing in them I'll probably never watch any of the other bowl games. Just like I have zero interest in the NIT.. Basically it would be 1) College Football playoff; 2) NY6 Bowls; 3) Any other bowls. Will the Rose Bowl be the semifinal every year? I can't see them ever moving it away from January 1st at 5:00...

It's amazing how they can screw something really good up. Whoever came up with this idea...part of me thinks they stole it from the NFL. Ex: This year the NFC South/NFC West will likely host Minnesota or Green Bay only just because they won the division. Houston will likely play Baltimore, Pittsburgh, or LA Chargers at home for the same reason.
-
I hope this changes next year. Whoever is the 5 seed has the best path to the semifinals. That is silly. I also hope one day this happens but doubt it will: Only neutral site game is the championship. Make it like the NFL and let the schools host the playoffs. Make the Rose, Fiesta, Sugar, Cotton, Peach, and Orange bowls for the next 12 teams. Even if you miss the playoff you can still have a decent season if you are a top 25 team.

The good news is IU is in. Looking like on the road. I think these are the 4 host sites: Notre Dame, Ohio State, Loser of Big Ten champ game, Loser of SEC champ game. I still think Miami should have been the last spot. Ohio State lost at home as a 3 TD favorite. Miami lost on the road (granted they were a ten point favorite) to a 9-3 team. Ohio State only fell 4 spots and still gets to host a game. Miami fell 6 spots and is out. I just don't like that. Bama gets rewarded for beating a 5-7 Auburn team just a week after losing bad to 6-6 OU. The million dollar question: If SMU loses are they in? It'll be between them and Bama. If SMU wins there will be no drama.
-
I think so too..Ellison, Lawton, Smith, Evans on offense. Carpenter and Ferrell on Defense. I could be wrong, but of our 6 All-B1G selections 4 could come back next year. Sarratt, Fisher, and Ponds. Kamara I think goes pro but could come back. Kurtis, Katic, potentially Kamara and others are big losses. But, there will be some talent coming back! If I'm a Portal QB, having Sarratt and Cooper back will be huge. Will probably have around 5 starters on each side of the ball back..not bad.

I don't understand how that QB is going to even get drafted early. ESPN has him as a 2nd/3rd round pick. He started the year as the Heisman favorite and in the discussion for the #1 overall pick. Tells you how much McConkey and Bowers meant to him and Georgia. I just think the Georgia defense would wear us out which would in return wear our defense out.
-
Maybe Texas. We will see how they look tomorrow. I still think we will see a major upset at some point. Miami-Syracuse will be a shoot-out. You know Vanderbilt would love to beat their in-state rival. USC has looked good at times this year. I can see them giving Notre Dame a game. Maybe Cal gives SMU a scare.
-
If SMU wins a close one and IU just blows Purdue out we should jump them. Ridiculous they're ahead of IU. Good team, but don't see how they're 9.
-
Hope you are right...but I think GT plays them close because they see them every year. Last two years the game has been close. Right now, our offense has struggled against teams with multiple NFL draft picks (Michigan and OSU). OSU and Georgia are the two teams I do not want to see for that reason. Georgia is incredibly overrated though.
-
Sucks because a Georgia loss gets IU 100% in with a win instead of 97% in. I'm still worried about buffoonery from the committee. I do not like falling from 5 to 10 and behind SMU.
-
I still think Georgia would have been in as the last team in..but would've been funny to see them lose.

How many times does Tessitore need to tell us Georgia is in the playoff?

I highly recommend listening to Joel Klatt's podcast. He said that the debate isn't going to come down to IU. It'll be the ACC title game loser vs. Clemson or SC. I'm nervous with how far IU fell. But, he should be right. If Miami loses this weekend, which they could, they are OUT. If SMU loses, they can still get in but only as ACC champ. A Clemson loss eliminates them from an at-large bid. It is likely to be 11-1 Miami vs. 11-1 SMU. Miami will probably be 6th and SMU 9th. If #5 IU fell 5 spots for losing to #2 OSU, then if Miami loses that game they better fall at least 4 spots and behind IU. The debate would then be Miami vs. Clemson. If SMU loses that game, I think Clemson gets in. ONLY way I think IU is out: Texas A&M wins SEC, Clemson dominates South Carolina, SMU wins ACC title game in a close one vs. Miami, and we struggle vs. Purdue. I really think a dominating win gets Indiana in. Committee clearly factors in margin of victory. It's why IU was as high as 5 and fell 5 spots for losing by 3 TD's and some change this weekend. Anything less than at least a 3 score victory this weekend worries me. While I still think it is BS, Indiana kinda has some blame in this. We all knew going in that Indiana couldn't get blown out. And they did. It's crap that Georgia and Tennessee jump 3-4 spots for playing cupcake teams. Clemson too this weekend. Very fortunate Ole Miss and Bama both lost. Or I'm afraid we'd be on the outside looking in.
-
Agree too. I posted earlier today that OSU has 5 top 100 players on defense according to ESPN's draft rankings. That doesn't count Downs. Michigan has 4 (Johnson didn't play vs. IU). Only other team to really have that many is Georgia and Bama.
-
Again, I hate being the 11 seed just being the last team in. But I do love this draw: @ Penn State. Winner plays Miami in Peach Bowl. IU can win both of these games. Unfortunately if IU struggles against Purdue I think this team has peaked and just ran out of gas. Similar to 12-13 basketball team.

Rece Davis said that it would still be in the 60s. Vegas thinks we are still safely in. -3000 odds.
-
I sure hope you are right. I've been pleased with the committee thus far but tonight is a joke. Shouldn't be below 9.
-
I hope I'm over-reacting...but I think they're setting up Clemson to get in and Indiana to be out.
-
Love the draw..don't like our seed being the last team in. Nightmare scenario: We have a lackluster win vs. Purdue, Clemson beats South Carolina good, SMU beats Miami in ACC title game, and then A&M wins SEC. I think Indiana is fine, but don't like being the last team in.
-
Found this to be interesting..looked at ESPN's Top 100 NFL Draft Rankings. There are three teams that have 4 or more guys on defense in the top 100. Ohio State and Georgia with 5. (Downs would make 6 but he is a So.) Michigan with 4. It's obvious why IU struggled with Michigan in the 2nd half and Ohio State most of the game. I would hope to certainly avoid Georgia in the playoffs. Outside of them and OSU... Other playoff contenders with 2 guys in the top 100: Penn State, Tennessee, and Texas A&M. Kind of makes me feel better about the playoffs. Notre Dame only has one and I think he is out for the season. Texas on defense only has one. As big of an IU homer I am, Kurtis and Kamara are the only guys that I've read getting real draft buzz. Maybe Katic and Carter Smith late. I think we get easily overmatched against teams that have NFL talent all over the field on defense.

#5 IUFB @ #2 Ohio State - 11/23/24 at Noon on FOX
HoosierFan1994 replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
Yep. I remember feeling awful at halftime. Imagine if the punt goes off and it's only 7-7 at hafltime. I think IU loses still but we will never know. -
Lot of people were comparing us to Michigan State a few years ago when they extended Mel Tucker and got beat by Ohio State. Went back and looked 1) Michigan State had already lost a game that year to Purdue. 2) They lost 56-7 at Ohio State. They fell from 7th to 12th. I will be extremely frustrated with the committee if Tennessee and SMU are ahead of Indiana. Lowest IU should be tomorrow is 8th. I don't think Georgia and Tennessee should be rewarded for their cupcake wins but there is an argument for Georgia to pass Indiana in the rankings. The committee put IU ahead of Tennessee after they beat Michigan. That same week Tennessee beat Mississippi State. Problem with being ranked 10th is that means you are the last "At-Large" team.
-
I know we are all upset over the loss yesterday but what a loaded week we have: 1) Women's basketball plays for the Battle 4 Atlantis title against UNC tomorrow. What a turnaround they've had. 2) Men's basketball could really push themselves into the national discussion. Beat Louisville and you likely have a showdown with Gonzaga on Thanksgiving 3) Men's Soccer headed to the Sweet 16 and plays Denver I believe Saturday. 4) and of course, IU plays Purdue in the bucket game. A chance to go 11-1 and lock up a playoff spot at home.

Don't disagree. If they beat Clemson, it could be between them and SMU or Miami. Again, I take the ACC Championship loser over them. But with all the craziness they are probably the first team out in this scenario.
