  1. Quick research on DeVries: 1) Won 20 games six straight years in a row at Drake. Before him, only five 20 win seasons... 2) In year one at Drake, they had their best season in a decade. In year one at WVU they went from basically a last place team to a respectable team that should have been in the tournament. Had his son been healthy, they very well could have been a top 25 team. He took over a mess at WVU. I'd love to see what he could do at IU. Not that he would be an A+ grand slam hire, but it would be a good hire.
  2. Yeah I saw that earlier. I do wonder if it comes down to NIL for him. If so, Indiana wins that.
  3. I could be wrong...feels like with Devries it's the same level of smoke now just like the day before Cignetti was hired. I probably favor McCollum but Devries would be a nice hire. He rebuilt WVU in a year. They should have made the tournament. Had some nice wins. Mostly without his son.
  4. Love that Osterman says no journalist knows anything. It would be him if anyone would. IMO that is how it should be. I don't think it's a good thing when there is news of too many leaks in a coaching search.
  5. Chatter on other 247 boards suggesting Collins to Villanova and Devries to Iowa. Would be two dominoes to fall. Assuming Brownell is getting that extension, math says it's McCollum or somebody surprising which is what most of us have thought.
  6. Couple of thoughts for me: 1) Someone could really write a book about the last 5-6 weeks of this program when it's all said and done. What a crazy time (Woodson "retirement, team starts to show some life, coaching search, missing the tournament, and eventually an announcement.) I miss Terry Hutchens. He would've been the guy to do so. 2) This fact pisses me off: Indiana in the last 9 seasons has only made the tournament twice. One of those two times they were In the first 4.. 3) Scott Dolson has to get this hire right. This fan base is sick of this. I can't see fans continuing to show this kind of support for mediocre basketball. 4) If no announcement is made by the start of the tournament, it's somebody in the Field of 68. In fact, I think even by Wednesday. There is literally no reason or benefit to wait around if they currently aren't coaching a team. Need to get things going with the portal next week. So, I think you can cross Collins, Devries, Donovan, Stevens, Turgeon (I kid) if we don't hear anything soon. I give Thursday a slight chance if they want to pull some kind of Jerry Jones stunt and announce it at the start of the games (Purdue plays right away Thursday). 5) IF it is a coach in the Field of 68, give it 24-48 hours after they are eliminated. If you don't hear anything by then, you can cross them off. Again, need to get things going. It's going to be a fun week. I imagine this time next week we will know..unless our coach is in the Sweet 16.
  7. I have a feeling the reaction IU fans would have if the hire is Brownell would be similar to the reaction Tennessee Football fans had when they almost hired Schiano....granted for different reasons. Me personally: I would let it play out. Would grade the hire a C- or D. Not at all my choice and it says a lot about where the program is. That being said, no hire has been made yet.
  8. Matrix right now based on % of brackets teams are in...6 teams for 3 spots it seems San Diego State 91% Indiana 77% Boise State 61% Texas 51% Xavier 39% North Carolina 36% edit: Big West seems like a one bid league to me. I think VCU is interesting if they lose. George Mason and UAB seem to be the possible bid thieves.
  9. Matrix just updated. Boise State last team in. Texas OUT.
  10. Let me get this straight: Brad Brownell, who grew up in southern Indiana during the peak Bob Knight years (76, 81, 87) is rumored to sign an extension with Clemson to stay there over IU? I don't buy it. Tells me he knew he wasn't getting the job. Again, no clue who it's going to be. Just never thought it would be him.
  11. I've always wondered why that is the case. I do think Lunardi wants to hype up games (ex: Texas vs. Tennessee and Duke vs. UNC) to make it seem like it's a win and get in.
  12. To be fair I 100% think they should be in over those teams, I just don't know if they'll do that. Will be interested to see tomorrow if they jump ahead of those teams after their win over New Mexico.
  13. Right now: 2 spots for 3 teams..I think Boise State has to win MWC to get in. North Carolina Texas Xavier I think IU is the 3rd to last team in. Bid thief alert in the MWC. If Colorado State wins tonight MWC steals a bid (Boise State the other team). A10 and AAC also other leagues to watch. Will be no bid thieves in the Power 5 conferences. 80-90% confident IU is in. 100% would be going to Dayton.
  14. Indiana I think is in unless there are 2-3 bid thieves. Book the hotel rooms for Dayton.
  15. Reality: I want Indiana to hire a proven guy too. But the time for that was 2001 and 2006. They did so with Sampson and we know how that turned out. Mike Davis is a great guy...but that decision to keep him has haunted the program for a long time. This isn't Dolson's fault Previous administrators have ruined this program. I know a lot of you don't like Goodman but I think McCollum is the guy. The timing was interesting considering it was after Indiana lost today. Again not my favorite choice but I don't hate it. I take his resume over Archie Miller's. You don't win 4 titles in D2 and 30 games in D1 by accident. My question is how does his personality fit at IU. I hope he can create a good culture.
  16. Possibility of a few stolen bids. If Xavier beats Marquette today I think Indiana slides into team 67 of the tournament. It's not the lock I thought they would be.
  17. More reason to make the NCAA Tournament: I don't want them to play in that stupid Crowd Tournament and just keep Woodson around for 2 more weeks.
  18. Stating the obvious. Oregon is just better in every single aspect. Surprised this game is even this close.
  19. The more I think about it, I don't think it's going to be Brad Brownell. Said many times so far I think he is the "Porter Moser" of the search. (IF you don't remember in 2021 Moser's name was thrown around quite a bit during the home stretch of the search). I don't know about McCollum. Either he's the guy or it's a smokescreen for somebody. Goodman and Osterman have also been throwing around his name. Osterman mentioned him on a podcast and Goodman predicted McCollum on the F68 podcast today. You don't have to like Goodman but that dude knows stuff. Part of me thinks Dolson has someone nobody is even talking about (maybe a former D2 coach in Indiana..I don't think he is realistic) or has already been "eliminated" from consideration (Drew, Beard...NO, NOT Stevens). I feel this search has been pretty quiet compared to the 2017 and 2021 ones.
  20. Yeah Matrix has us as the 3rd to last team in. We aren't the lock I thought we would be after Saturday.
  21. I was coming on here to post the same thing..how does Indiana go from one of the last 4 byes to last 4 in without playing.
  22. I'm to the point where I think it's McCollum or he is a smokescreen from someone nobody is even talking about. I can't see it being Brad Brownell. I think he is this search's Porter Moser.
  23. Sorry guys I've been off most of the day, what's the spring break rumor?
  24. A couple of things to remember: 1) It's very unlikely that a coach that is already winning at a P5 school is going to leave for another P5 job with more pressure. Ask Kentucky and Louisville. (Think about your profession..if you are happy, would you leave for a job that pays just a little more but has more pressure? I wouldn't) 2) Nobody knows what's going on and again, that's how it SHOULD be. I can't stress that enough. 3) Look at what as doomed our last few coaches that have been fired for losing. Crean (his shelf life ran out), Miller (didn't have the personality to win at IU), and Woodson (didn't put in the work necessary to win big here). If we all can see that, I imagine Scott Dolson is making it a priority to find someone that can put in the work and has the personality for Indiana. Here is what gives me HOPE...Mike Woodson did not put in the work needed to win Big Ten Titles, make deep runs in the NCAA tournament, and compete for National Championships. It sounds like he did the minimum. Yet, he made the tournament 3 out of 4 years. He was able to convince Trayce Jackson-Davis to come back. He did land some nice recruits and portal guys (JHS, Malik, Ware, Mgbako, Ballo, Rice, etc). Came VERY Close to landing some big recruits (Queen, Fland, Harralson, Mullins, Liam*) Imagine what a coach that PUTS in the work can do. I'm warming up to Ben McCollum. Even though I'm from Evansville, I won't do backflips over a Brad Brownell hire. I'll give him a chance and trust he can do better than Woodson but will it be good enough? That being said, I'd take the field over these two guys. It's possible Brownell is this search's version of Porter Moser. My advice: enjoy the basketball these next two weeks. March is freaking awesome. While it sucks to be on the bubble and it's NOT where I want IU to be, at least they'll be playing in the tournament. I mention this all the time I live in a divided house. My wife and her father-in-law are HUGE UK fans. They hated the Mark Pope hire. It turned out really well for them this year. They play a fun style of basketball and it looks like they can be a second weekend team this year. He's been able to recruit well. I am sure UL fans hated the Pat Kelsey hire. Again, so far looking good. I trust Scott Dolson to hire the right guy.
  25. My takeaway from the spaces...I just don't think anyone knows and honestly that is how it SHOULD be. We are all eager to hear things but I honestly don't think too many leaks is good. Imagine you are wanting to get one of the better jobs in your profession. You likely wouldn't want your employer to know about it. Rabjohns did prove a point. He compared how Dolson handled the 2021 basketball hire (remember the whole Matta/Holtmann/Moser leaks) vs. the Cignetti hire (his name kind of came out of nowhere 24 hours before). I could very well be wrong on this opinion...Indiana Basketball is going through the worst stretch in program history...1 winning season in the Big Ten in the last 9 years. I don't think the hire is going to be a Brad Brownell or Ben McCollum type. I just don't. I think it's a proven guy. I'm also not qualified to talk about the whole stuff with Chris Beard. I get both sides of it. I'll say this: I think he is the guy if Stevens, May, Drew, Otzelberger, etc. all say no. Rabby said this and I 100% agree. Indiana has to start winning. I like the Hysterics/Rabby more than most of you. They've been right and they've been wrong before. I think they were just sharing what they hear.
