General Coach Candidate News
Unexpectedflash replied to JaybobHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I’d legitimately offer Oats 7 million a year. Granted it’s not my money but he’s what we’re all clamoring for in terms of style, youth, and personality. I have little doubt he’ll be one of the best coaches in college in the future. Kids are going to be lining up to play in this system. Alabama can match anything sadly. -

The more I watch Oats’ team play, the sadder I get that it doesn’t seem like we have a shot with him. -
Candidate Thread: Eric Musselman (Arkansas)
Unexpectedflash replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
If Musselman left us for the NBA that means he’d be extremely successful here at least for a few years. I’d take that. He’ll be 57 by the time next season starts. I don’t know how many more opportunities he’ll get for the NBA. -
Seems like a guy Gonzaga gets and turns into an All american

Has anyone else heard Wednesday other than that guy on the Rivals site? He has notoriously bad info and is not someone I'd consider an insider. -

Bennett's teams are slow but at least they are modern in terms of shot selection. They ran a lot of 5 out offenses this year. They are consistently great shooting teams and take a high percentage of theirs shots from three which is a big difference from Archie. I think there's a reason that Bennett has been able to have top 20 offensive efficiency teams the last 5 years. -

I think I have less issues with the packline than the offense. I really want to see a good shooting team again. You can't play slow and also be a terrible shooting team. -

Chris Mack's team shot worse than Archie's team last year. No thank you. -

This is why people laugh at IU fans. Bennett is one of the most successful coaches in the NCAA. I think there's zero shot we get one of the few coaches that have won a title but saying he'd be a failure to get is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. -
Candidate Thread: Scott Drew (Baylor)
Unexpectedflash replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Before I got my hopes up with Brad, Scott was my number one. He’ll have us winning consistently. -
Candidate Thread: Thad Matta
Unexpectedflash replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I think you’re underestimating kids haha. I’d venture to guess most high school kids know Russel especially since he was on the lakers and warriors. -
He’s a little better than Archie on offense. His offenses are usually in the 30s-40s. Peaked at 25 that title run. His defenses are much better than Archies which sets him apart.

He has one of the most iso heavy offenses in the ncaa. I think he’s gone away from the motion the last few years. I like the movement and pressure defense of Arkansas a little more.

Candidate Thread: Thad Matta

Doesn’t Matta run the same system as Archie. Matta is a smart guy though. I’m sure he’s been watching the game the last four years and seen what it’s trended to and would adapt. At least I’d hope he does. -

Fife is definitely not my first choice or even fifth but if we’re getting that low on the list I’d rather take a chance on him than like Enfield. Just feels like there’s a stink on the program and we won’t be able to get an established coach. I could just be feeling this way since no real rumors have come out about who we’re making a run at next. -

It helps having Evan Mobley on the team who is in the running for number one draft pick. I think that really skews this year especially since Mobley’s dad is an assistant coach. I doubt that he’d be able to get that talent otherwise. If he’s getting a top 3 high school recruit in the country each year then sign me up but I don’t think this year is the norm. -

At this point I think we should offer 5.5 million to Drew, Beard, Musselman, and Oats. If they turn us down no harm no foul. Maybe we get lucky and one of them comes. Check in on Mattas back. If we’re this low on the list, just offer Fife and build the best staff in the country around him. We’d have money to spare. I’d rather take a chance on him than some of the others being discussed that have proven to be mediocre in the past. I still have faith in Dolson to get this right and it’s his job to convince whoever he thinks is the best candidate to come. It’s just kind of scary to go from thinking we’d get Brad to not knowing who’s even on the list. -

Can we go back to thinking we’d get Brad? That was so much more fun. Really hoping it’s not Enfield. Feels like it’d be another Tom Crean hire. -
Candidate Thread: Thad Matta
Unexpectedflash replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
So I don’t live in Bloomington so I’m just wondering are the fans really that annoying that it could scare off this many coaches? I’ve heard about the spotlight scaring away Holtmann and now Matta. I just find it hard to believe the people in Columbus don’t recognize their basketball coach if he’s out but maybe I’m wrong. -

Ugh I really don’t want Enfield. This year is great but I can attribute most of that to getting two 5 stars because their dad is an assistant coach. If he brings Evan Mobley here every year then he can come. -

Maybe Lawrence Frank puts a good word in for Chauncey Billups. Granted I’d be shocked if he was being considered but he’d be the closest thing to Juwan Howard we could get. Clippers assistant coach right now and was in the running for a couple of head coaching jobs last year. NBA offense and every kid would know who he is. -
Candidate Thread: Porter Moser
Unexpectedflash replied to Henryville Hoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Porter’s efficiency numbers don’t impress me. Even his final four year their offense was 63 on kenpom. I just worry it’d be another Archie that’s all defense and below average offense. -

He’s only made the tourney twice. I think I’d feel more comfortable if he had made it a few more times. -

This tourney and the final four run look good but can anyone tell me why his record MVC record was under .500 until this year?
