If people transfer year one that just means the new coach has more roster spots to recruit people he wants years two. I doubt it’d be a mass exodus like when Crean got here.
-
Even if the coach doesn’t have success in year one I think it’s very likely that a good coach would have us winning by year two. Just look at places like Michigan, Bama, and Arkansas. I really don’t think four years or whatever is required to be good in today’s game with the type of player movement we see nowadays. I think the key to the success would be retaining Lander and developing him better than Archie would. You need elite guards to be a great team. Armaan will continue to improve and is a stud. We’d need Lander to take a couple of steps and I’d have faith in a new coach developing him better than Archie at this point.

It helps that UCLA made Cronin a top 3 highest paid coach. That goes a long way in convincing whoever you want as the next coach.

Just things like he created a really toxic environment and tried to pin different people in the front office against each other. I think there was a rumor that he made Festus Ezeli cry since he told the rest of the team that he was rooting against them while he was injured. Just a lot of things like that. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cbssports.com/nba/news/mark-jackson-says-warriors-narrative-has-kept-him-from-second-coaching-chance-but-its-a-lot-more-than-that/amp/ -

I would hope not. Some of the rumors of how he ran the warriors would make him one of the last people I’d want coaching college kids. -

I’ve seen people suggest Mark Pope from BYU around the internet so I decided to look him up. Definitely not my first choice but could be a nice fall back. Only two years at BYU but had a top 15 team last year and has another top 30 team this year. Won a title at Kentucky as a player. -

I think Drew has found something these last two years. He’s always been a good offensive coach as evidenced by their efficiency ratings. The thing that was holding them back was their defense. Before last year they played zone and man evenly split 50/50 for the most part. However last year he implemented a man to man defense similar to the one that Texas Tech used in their title run which they run almost exclusively now and they’ve been a top 10 defensive efficiency team the last two years to go along with their elite offense. You need to be top 20 in both to win a title the last twenty years and he’s shown that he can coach a team with that. I like that he was able to adjust last offseason. I know one of my biggest issues with Archie is how stubborn he is with his “system”. I want a coach that can see a deficiency and change what he’s doing and I think that Drew has shown that and why I’m so high on him. -
Don’t get me wrong I definitely feel like Matta would be an upgrade and if those are my choices it’s Matta 100/100. I just would rather have Matta as a solid backup plan if we strikeout on some other people.

Going off that, Drew makes 2.7 million this year. If we offer say 5.5 million that’d be tough to turn down. He’d be on par with Bill Self and Mick Cronin then in terms of salary. If we’re committed to winning I feel like he’s one of the more realistic options. -
My only hesitance with Matta is that his last really good team was in 2012 which is a long time ago. He has a great resume and I think he’d be a clear upgrade but I’m not certain he’s a home run just because there are still some uncertainties. I feel like getting this next hire wrong would be pretty tough to recover from if we’re doing this again in 4 years.

I honestly have no clue but one of the first jobs I thought of was Pittsburgh. I’ve seen rumors Capel may be on the hot seat. It’s still a good basketball school but definitely less pressure than we have here. I’m sure going back home and getting a fresh start would appeal to Archie.
-
Watching Archie’s last few postgame conferences, he looks absolutely exhausted and pretty defeated. I definitely think he’s a guy that takes losing hard. I find it hard to believe that he’s happy here right now and it may honestly be best for both sides if he somehow found a new job this offseason and we could pay a buyout that’s somewhere between the 10 million this year and the 3 million next year. I know it’s probably a long shot.

I mean isn’t it. When has Baylor ever had success before Drew. Maybe I’m naive but I still think this is a top 15 job at least in the sport and definitely has advantages over Baylor. -

Don't feel like we've played terrible and are still down double digits. The ft disparity is killing us. -
For a defensive minded team, we sure are bad at defense now
-
We must all like pain to continue watching the rest of this
-
At least the Celtics are down 20 to the Hawks.....
-
How can we be this bad at both offense and defense
-
Couldn't even get excited we got up 15 because I knew we'd somehow lose that lead.

I guess I'm just basing a lot of it off these last two years. He had a top 5 team last year and had as good a shot as any to win a title these last two years. Plus he has a top 10 recruiting class coming in next year. I'd be pretty confident in the talent he'd bring in here. I think Drew has a chance at some long term success at Baylor and would do the same things here. -

I don't know if he'd be considered but I think Scott Drew would be a really good hire if Archie is fired. Still young at 50 and has some Indiana ties with his Dad and going to Butler. Baylor has been amazing these last two years and I think he'd be able to get us back in the National title contention. He's making under 3 million this year so it would be easier to give him a raise versus someone like Chris Beard. He's been a good recruiter at Baylor and has also shown the ability to develop transfers. Plus his team leads the country in 3 point shooting percentage along with being the best defensive team in the nation. I miss watching a great shooting team. -

Alabama also has a top 15 adjusted offense and defense on kenpom this year which are both championship level caliber. I remember one of the biggest things with Archie was that he had never proven to be able to coach a championship level offense at Dayton. -

I think the more I read about Nate Oats the more I want him as the next coach. Watching his teams play is fun and exciting and I think that's something that has been missing with Archie. I think his system is one that would lend itself to recruits wanting to play for him as well. Watching Alabama, they play with a freedom and confidence that also seems to be lacking with our current team. He holds his players accountable which is another thing I know we've been clamoring for Archie to do. He benched two of their best players when they were 5-3 and they have been undefeated since. Plus I think he has the personality to deal with all the pressure that comes with the job. I doubt it would take 4 years for him to turn things around since he's turned around Alabama in two years.
