Nice post, appreciate the stats. I would agree they both look more comfortable. I was at the MSU game, and on the three Armaan hit in the second half to (I believe) tie us back up he looked really confident on that play. He went back to get the ball with intent and stepped right into the shot without hesitation. In a big moment when a ranked team is surging on your home court, no less. Well, would you just go right on ahead and do the things your employer told you not to do and expect to keep your job after so much of that? Also, if you want him to devote >50% of practices to shooting, he could. But then we’d find something else for which to blame him 100%. Think about it. When a player goes to the gym on his own time, what does he work? Offense. Dribble moves (hopefully more actual ball handling drills) and shooting. They don’t work defensive fundamentals. They don’t do rebounding drills. They can get extra shots up any other (free) time of day. The question is, did/are they? I haven’t been to practices. I have no idea hope he runs them. Maybe there IS a little more time that can be given to shooting. But people act like Miller should be going to the gym FOR them half the time. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

Added drawback of Vic’s injury. They really don’t know what they have until he settles in with the rhythm the team had before his return. Believe me, I’d respect the heck out of him for that. Maybe he doesn’t feel a potential new boss would feel the same way knowing we could potentially add to our tournament drought. It’s hard to know and I hate to speculate too much. Things may not be all that bad, but I do believe an interaction like the one described isn’t an isolated episode. I’ll actually agree with Joe here in regard to coach protecting his job. Archie isn’t in immediate danger of getting canned, but he knows progress is paramount for security going forward and it’s now or never. Again, because the guard play is so weak, he’d be mistaken to remove Green completely because he is our best shooter. Unless the kid does something downright egregious Archie really can’t afford to remove him entirely, or even limit him to less than 5-10 minutes a game. Now that we’re in the gauntlet of the B1G, he has to keep the status quo. Yeah, I’m not sure about the Smith ire either. Maybe it’s just drawn from the collective frustration with the team and Smith’s own frustrating inconsistencies. But Green I get 100%. I’m fully convinced he is a major roadblock to team chemistry and I think Archie has tried to neutralize that by not completely yanking him from the rotation like he could if there were other reliable guard play. You pull a kid like that and his attitude just becomes cancerous. Fortunately (for him) he’s got enough thin guard play around him to keep him valuable. But if you scroll to about the 8:15 mark Dakich discusses some less than stellar on-court interactions between Smith and Green. Yes, I know it’s Dakich.
