Odds/Thoughts on building top 25 preseason
RaceToTheTop replied to WayneFleekHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Either we are or aren’t ranked….so 50% chance, right? -
Not really. They started out 20-0 and then were 6-6 in their next 12. In conference went from 8-0 to 14-6.

Just a sec — Purdue pays their football team?

This is also why you are going to see a lot better freshman than normal going to mid and low majors….and transferring later to high majors after one to three years.
-
I do need to amend it — 4 were mid or low major, 1 was high major. ‘Struggled’ isn’t a concrete term.
-
But it’s been dismal guys like Myles Rice and Kanaan Carlyle as well.
-
I would disagree that they should have went all young (although I agree that Sisley should have been playing UNLESS the rumor is true that he told DeVries he was transferring). At the point at which IU starting going after players in the portal, it was really slim pickings in terms of high school recruits and players going into their sophomore year.
-
They weren't actually all seniors. Jasai Miles was a junior and Josh Harris was a sophomore. Yet to be seen if either will be back next year. Harris I really liked because he put up a good freshman year (albeit at a low major) and looked like he had quite a bit of athletecism.

The top four ranked player transfer as rated by 247 were all from mid majors -- UAB, Memphis, Drake, and New Mexico. 14 of the top 50 were mid major transfers. 37 of the top 100. That's not 37 'Cinderella stories'.....those are guys rated by their ability and stacking up.
-
Then I guess that high-major players are high-major players, is that correct? Your issue is you seem to think a finding a mid-major player who can play at the high-major level is like winning the Power Ball. It's simply not true.
-
There were exactly 5 players on the Big Ten first through third teams that had transferred into the conference. Every single one of them transferred from mid or low majors. That's not confirmation bias. This is what can be said: high major talent putting up the same stats as a mid major talent will show that the high major talent is much more likely to be a better player. But the truth is that their are going to be many more mid major players putting up good stats -- that's the nature of the beast. High major guys who are important to their team are mostly retained. So writing off mid major players just because they are mid major players limits your options unnecessarily. It's where scouting comes in.

And the cost of cigars.

That means Indiana, Washington, Northwestern, USC, and Oregon all turned down playing in the Crown.

Wilkerson was surrounded by mid major players that were misses. Think it's a really bad take to say that he couldn't be counted on to score.

Wilkerson was a low major. Can't reject based on one item.

2026-27 Roster/Portal/how to fix the roster?
RaceToTheTop replied to Asha’man's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
FWIW, Sisley played 19 minutes against Michigan and only played ten minutes or more two times after that -- against UCLA, where it was needed because of guys fouling out and OT, and Minnesota -- he played ten minutes in a 30 point blowout win. -
His redshirt freshman year he only played in 9 games and his sophomore year he only played 6. The redshirt freshman year he played games in the second half of the season so likely couldn't get that year, but his sophomore year all 6 games were in the first half of the year so he might be able to use that as a second redshirt year.
-
He does have one year left.
