I read an article saying he's much better, so the Butler narrative sort of surprises me. I know he interviewed for the UGA job a few years back, so at least we know he's interested in the right opportunity. If the drop leg issues have persisted though, might make for hard decision. It's not like he has to run the court, but he needs to at least be able to get around easily.

MSU keeping it interesting vs scUM. And not to long ago I thought IU would be in, and MSU would miss out... lol

What was Steven's extension terms last August?
-
Agreed. I've still watched most games, but I've watched less, and paid less attention when watching, than I ever have (and I'm getting old lol). Not saying I'm a super fan, or representative of the larger base, but I have to believe folks stopped tuning in as much, and would expect the admin to understand that. And we can't ignore the impact to recruiting either.

I said give me a 5 year 20M dollar deal, and I'd donat'e 10.5 to pay Archie's buyout lol. In all seriousness, unless boosters really love Archie, which I really doubt, I'm sure they will be willing to foot most, if not all, of the buyout (assuming we are going after someone they want).
-
Oh they'd definitely wait (if they don't pull the trigger now). That doesn't mean they wouldn't have a plan, or identified candidates.
-
You're not factoring the additional new coach's salary. So if we hire someone, let's say at 4M a year, we'd pay 4+10.5 in 2021 totaling 14.5. If we wait, we're only paying his base this year. Then next year, we fire him, pay the new coach 4M+3.5M buyout totaling 7.5M.
-
I read (I think SI or ESPN) that if we can him now, his buyout is 10.5M. If next year, 3.5M.
-
Yup. Pretty simple story. I skimmed it pretty quick, but I'd just add that he wasn't really great at recruiting either (sorry if they mentioned it). He was good inside the state, but was pretty meh outside the state. He did get some big in-state names, but he also lost several I think we should have locked down. IMO, wouldn't doubt if it was because style of play. Regardless, I hope they're not cheap. I know it's 7M cheaper to drop the hammer next year, but another year will hurt IU given most will know he's a lame duck. Hoping another team is already interested in him, which would help with the buyout.

Game Thread- IU vs POS (Purdue) 2 pm ESPN

So Archie is still winless vs Purwho... So embarrassing vs an in-state rival. -
I agree it's unlikely that IU is his first shot, but someone will roll the dice on him. That said, we also need to be honest about how attractive IU is right now. Blue blood name, but we haven't been a blue blood on the court in a long time. And several of the names being floated around, like Drew for instance... He's a god right now at Baylor. TX may be a football state, and Baylor might not have the BB history, but it's not close to a no-brainer move for him coming to a team like IU. I could see several guys from top of AD's list say "no thanks". And I'd take Alexander over a lot of the meh names that might make the list from bigger schools. It could very well happen that we need to roll the dice.

IDK. I think the whole religion thing is probably overblown. And Scalabrine sounds like a women scorned. He even eludes to blowback to Jackson, in an almost threatening way. Not saying I want Jackson, or he'd be a good coach at IU, but it all sounds click bait opinion type of stuff. Never heard of the writer.

I agree Pearl likely wouldn't make it past the trustees, and Tonagel's resume isn't worthy, but I disagree that they other two are unrealistic. Alexander is going to get his shot, and soon. What he did at Lipscomb was impressive, and then to go and do it immediately at Belmont too. On Oats, just not sure his buyout is that big of barrier if they truly wanted him.

Aside from being born in Valpo, and going to Butler, no real ties to IU that I'm aware for either him, or his dad.
-
Cool. I'll give others time to add input and put up a poll this afternoon.
-
I think we need a poll lol. If anyone wants to list the top 5 to 10 realistic candidates, I'll create one. I'm a little surprised there are not more articles about potential replacements.

this gives me a sadz... lol

If you find a cure, let me know. I have the same sickness.
-
yup. the sooner the better, so we can get a head start on search and negotiations.
-
How about they give me a 5 year / 20M dollar deal, and I'll donate 10.35 of it! Boom, done

Let me know if sigs are needed for the petition...

Watching the Smart shot always takes me back to the vivid memory of place I was at, and people around me. I was in HS at a mall house party. I remember everyone on the couch, chairs, and floors just jumping up through the roof. I wanna go back lol. The only other sports game that sticks to my memory even close is the Reggie Miller performance were he scores several times in the final minute vs NYNs.

Awesome show. I loved the bits about who else got invited to go. The boosters didn't get them in trouble. Boosters are there to give money and be pushers of opinion. They're not responsible for the coach search and hire. You need a facility upgrade. Need buyout or new coach money... That's what they do. Impacting the decision, or giving the appearance of letting them impact things, is fine. AD is responsible though for the plan and output from the booster money. It was raining a bit in my house at the end too when they showed BK's visit, and some of the guys talking about him.

First and foremost, I don't think a full buyout would keep them from going after a big name (if a big name was interested). More or less I think the can find the money if the they have a opportunity to make a true splash. To me it's more about if a big name would even be interested. I agree AM was great at the MMs and should go back. As far as a reduced buyout is concerned, I think he'd do whatever made sense from a pure math perspective. It's hard to low ball a guy on buyout, and say either take this or were waiting till next year and will get rid of you then. That's just not how conversations go. Whatever they do, I just hope they either get a big name (experienced), or go with a young up and comer with a more exciting scheme. A scheme that would also attract players, and a young guy that can recruit.
