  1. Why wouldn't he play in the bowl game?   Embarrassing for him if his owie prevents that.
  2. He's hurt an awful lot to think he's a very high draft pick.  Very nice player, but can't stay healthy.   Good for him, but I think he needs to show more than he did.  A great back....like him very much.
  3. For the love of God, please.
  4. I want to know why you're so hell bent on this minute, meaningless point?     I made no reference to "compare" Sam Dekker and Grant Gelon.  Didn't happen.  You can twist words, avoid context, eliminate part of what I said (Kaminsky reference), but the fact remains I did not compare the two.   I DID make a direct comparison to Leary and "maybe Roth."      Dekker reference wasn't related to Gelon's ability as a player at all.   Dekker was an example I used....along with Kaminsky, which should tell you everything you need to know about comparisons....but apparently not.   I clearly wasn't comparing Gelon to Kaminsky, as they are completely different, so I wonder why you cherry picked Dekker and left out Kaminsky along with the context?  As I asked before...why are you so hell bent on this?     Someone said Gelon won't do much as a freshman.  Which is probably accurate.  My comment was simply that 1)  It's stupid to make decisions on every recruit based on what they'll do as a freshman; and 2) There are plenty of examples - like Dekker and Kaminsky - who played one role as a freshman, but grew into bigger, more impactful roles.  I gave Dekker's stats as a freshman and showed he wasn't much more than a jump shooter.  And....he wasn't.  he rarely started, played about half the game most of the time, and more than half of his FG attempts were 3 pointers.  He was little more than a shooter.  Yes, he had an okay freshman year, and I suspect Gelon will too.  He (Dekker) grew into much more.  I suspect by the time Gelon is a senior (like most players), his role will change and we'll feel differently about him than many people did when he first committed.  I never said he'd turn into Sam Dekker, plays like Sam Dekker, or will be anything like Sam Dekker.  I didn't compare the two at all.   Earlier in the thread, I said something to the effect of "Gelon is Leary and maybe Roth."  That was the comparison....not Dekker.  Dekker was an example of a different point.  It looks like you're trying to create a narrative because you've left so much out of what was actually said.  Seriously...why are you so hung up on trying to convince people I compared the two?
  5. Can they sustain it, and can they play harder when things don't go well?  It's easy to play that way at home when you have a relatively weak opponent, shoot 57% from the floor, and get to the line 36 times.   They still had just 11 assists on 30 FG's, and had more turnovers than assists.  They allowed 28 FT attempts to Morehead State.   No question...a better effort; however still some signs of concern.   The best thing for me was Yogi having the same number of assists as shot attempts.  When he's efficient, we are a much better team.  And he was last night.
  6. You really need to work on a basic understanding of definitions.   The context of this (and I'm wasting my time, I know) matters, and it was someone making a comment about Gelon's impact as a freshman, and I merely used a couple of kids as examples of why you can't judge a kid's career by what he does his freshman year.  About why it's foolish to base a kid's recruitment on what he'll do as a freshman.  Dekker happened to be my example because he was nothing more than a spot shooter his freshman year, but that does nothing to compare him to Gelon as a player.  I certainly never said or even inferred that Gelon would be what Dekker was.   Keep trying, though.  I'm sure you will enjoy efforting.
  7. Show me.  I don't think I did that.  He is not as athletic as Dekker.  Give me context because I think you either mis-quoted or mis-represented what I apparently said.  I don't remember, so I can't deny mentioning Dekker, but he's not the same kind of player, nor is he as big.  So when you paint with a broad "you compared him to _____" brush, please provide context.     Edit :  As I suspected.  Throughout the thread, I compared him to Leary and maybe Roth.  I made a comment about Dekker.  I did not compare him to Dekker.  I never even came close, and here's the quote :     They (Wisconsin) spent less than 10% what Indiana did on recruiting last season, and less than $65,000 overall.  They win every year with smart players who understand and play within Ryan's system, regardless of where they're ranked; and they know what they're getting when they walk on campus.  As a freshman, Kaminsky was not a very strong Big Ten player.  Same with Dekker.  He could shoot, but that was about all.   Wisconsin's formula is proven and consistent.  Anyone is free to mock it or predict the comparison.   Doesn't make it wrong   I did not compare Gelon to Dekker.  I merely used Dekker as a reference to freshmen, and that it's stupid to gauge a kid's career by what he does as a freshman.   I don't know why so many people have to create arguments in order to make points against them, but context is pretty important to credibility.  Just sayin'.
  8. Our help defense is absolutely an abomination.  And it has been all season.  This team is truly bad defensively.  That's hard to accomplish when you're as athletic as we are and have the players we do.
  9. If Indiana is indeed an NIT team, the solution will not be something anyone has to discuss.   Crean has not done a good job prioritizing.  If the rumors are true about promised starting spots and getting kids to the next level, he has prioritized the agendas of kids rather than the product on the floor; which for ANY coach will lead to a lack of focus on team defense.     If these kids don't care about their team, a complete house cleaning and cultural overhaul is needed.     We're not going after Bill Self.  Stop with that.  You can also stop with the "what makes anyone think _______" questions because college teams can be turned around in a matter of 2 seasons.   A current mess does not equal a long term problem; and any coach who takes over Indiana will inherit a mess, so it doesn't matter if it's Brad Stevens or Steve Bradley.     The kids we have are driven by personal ego.  Yogi isn't changing now.  You bench him?  He'll be more selfish when he IS on the floor.  The solution will happen organically.   We all know the deal now...it's no secret.
  10. Holy cow.   That's bad.   http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2595372-the-inevitable-end-is-near-for-tom-crean-at-indiana?utm_source=facebook.com&utm_medium=share&utm_campaign=web-des-art-top-319
  11. Hutch, does the administration give a damn, or not?   The answer to that question determines the answer to yours.   Does the administration care if Indiana University has a nationally competitive basketball team year in and year out?  Do they care that the University's most recognizable brand has been severely damaged, due in large part to past administration's lack of caring and very poor hiring decisions?   Do they want to be on top again, or are they more concerned with academics and foolishly believing the alumni are as apathetic as they are?   What do you think?
  12. Yes you do.  You know how.   We all know how.
  13. Same reasons every time.  Just another very poor defensive effort.     Also, I hate it when Indiana gets into their 1-on-1 mode with the ball.  Every time we get down, it seems like someone tries to take over and do things on their own.  Everyone else stops moving, and the game gets away from us further.     This team has no chance to do anything until defense becomes a priority to the entire team.  Coaches, players, managers, and everyone involved.  It's obvious the players either aren't buying in or simply aren't doing what they're taught....or.....aren't being taught.   Either way, it's a huge problem; but the ball scores....gotta' stop THAT first.
  14. After watching how those dirtbags played in the Bucket game on Saturday, I've lost whatever respect I had for them.  Dirty, cheap, gutless, classless bunch of human debris.   Hell with all of them, and I hope they never win another game.
  15. *  Timeout with 32 seconds to go.  To go to the bench and listen to Mike Davis.    Still get a chuckle out of that.   *  Didn't know it at the time, but this game spelled 15 years of frustration for IU fans because it led to a contract extension for Davis (which he didn't deserve, hadn't really earned - 20-11 going into the tournament and the #4 seed in the BTT despite the shared title - and botched completely); then a subsequent hire of Kelvin Sampson because Herbert demanded a minority since Davis was "forced out," and Indiana has never recovered.  Great win....but a catalyst to a very dark period in our program's history.
  16. Their front line is 6'9", 6'9", 7'0", and they're athletic.   A small ball lineup will be difficult.   Hell, both guards they start are 6'5".  Not sure what lineup works best, but I don't know how we match up with them with just Bryant on the interior.  Guess we'll see.
  17. I heard that, too.  It sounded like he thinks Indiana has an un-necessarily hard schedule.  Wonder if he truly wants sympathy for the schedule?  Sounds like he wants it because we don't have much of a bench in the front court...   I wish he'd elaborate.
  18. I think we had a collection of kids with a much higher defensive basketball IQ and defensive mentality than the ones we have now.
  19. Yang to yin.  What coach wants to come to a place where the environment is"anti coach?"  That's toxic.  To YOU the fact that you're loud is a good thing and means you care, but I don't think that's in question.  No coach wants to go into a toxic environment, and I don't think any want to be looked at as a savior as Old Fart said.  A coach wants a situation where he can win, and where he has support.   A coach will see loud fans and wonder what things will be if he has a tough game or a tough month.   I think (and I've been guilty as I said, so I'm making this point knowing full well I've been part of what I'm now saying is a problem) we're better off backing off the anti-Crean stuff other than what the team does on the floor and letting it play out.  There's no way he keeps his job if Indiana doesn't win, and I guarantee Brad Stevens and Tracy Stevens already know where they stand on IU fans' wish list.  I guess I think we're better off in the long run in a less toxic environment.
  20. Honestly?   The fan base is so negative and vitriolic, I'm not sure people would see Indiana as a great situation.  Maybe they can see through it (I hope), but the more Indiana loses, and the more Crean is exposed, the louder things get and the less attractive things may seem around here.    I'm guilty, so I'm not accusing anyone else; but these are really smart people.   I hold out hope; however I'm going to try to stop the attacks on Crean beyond what actually happens on the floor.   Call it a December pledge.
  21. Agree with most everyone.  Zander is so weak throwing the ball, he makes Indiana one-dimensional.  However, with his speed and Howard's power (assuming Howard returns), we can run a hell of a read-option game.  If Howard is not back, Zander simply cannot be the quarterback if this team is to continue moving forward.   We've got receivers to burn next season, and we need to use them.  If a QB can run AND throw, AND we have Howard back, 7-8 wins should be available to Indiana next year.   And I'll end every post with this as long as I remember to do it :   Purdue's cheap and dirty.  I hope we beat 'em by 100.
  22. Been out of town for 2 days. and haven't had a chance to post.      Purdue is the cheapest, dirtiest, and most classless bunch of players, coaches, and fans I can name.   If anyone associated with the football program is reading this, beat those MF's by 100 next season....and every year after.     Really proud of the way this team fought and very obviously improved.   Outside of hiring Les Miles, I hope the Wilson hot seat discussion cools down a bit.  We need a new defensive coordinator...that's obvious;  But I think it's clear the program is better and headed in a good direction.  He's earned a new contract.
  23. I really don't think it's banner or bust.  I think it's "compete for the Big Ten in most if not all seasons," and give us a consistent product on the floor that looks like the team is getting better."    Everything else will take care of itself as long as that's the standard.  Winning a banner will happen at Indiana if we're consistently at the top of the Big Ten.....or at least final fours will happen.   Indiana has the same problems on the floor they've always had under Crean, and the violent swings from top to bottom to ranked in the top 15 to losing twice in the Maui Invitational to very mediocre teams to.....   It's exhausting.  And his comments about lack of a front court make me absolutely crazy.  Nobody else to blame, Tommy my boy.
  24. If I were Fred Glass, this is my sales pitch.  I'd fly to Boston when the season's over, offer as much money as we can, say JUST the above (with a couple of slight edits), and shut up.  This is perfect.
