  1. Personally, I hate this new "free agency" transfer/portal/BS, even though we probably benefited greatly from it this off-season. Especially in the case where a player throws their name in the NBA draft, puts his college team in limbo for a month or more, then withdraws and decides to enter the portal. I fear CBB will become like the NBA - players dog-piling to form super teams. Jerry Seinfeld's line about "rooting for laundry" then becomes applicable to college ball.
  2. There's a certain irony in the second sentence of that quote - "student-athletes" & "goes into affect"
  3. Kind of funny. The past ten years have been our darkest in a half century, and yet our record is almost the same as our rival who collectively crow about their recent dominance over us. Now we need to get back to the top in the next 10 years.
  4. Play "hard-@$$" defense, gang rebound, bring it down and have fun. What kid doesn't want to be a part of that?
  5. Wasn't that the replacement husband on "Bewitched"?
  6. Thanks. "Too Chill" is a great, diplomatic term for what I called "unfocused". lol
  7. Reminds me of the Mo Creek saga. Kid comes in, looking to have the opportunity to be something special but gets gut-punched early in his freshman year by serious injury/medical condition. At least Mo DID have some outstanding performances before tragedy struck, while JH was based on stories and potential. Overall disappointing, but at least his medical condition was identified and properly treated. I don't want to kick a kid as he exits, but I have to wonder about his suspension during the season - have we ever learned definitively what happened? I don't know how serious/committed he was to improving his game before all the medical issues, but it did seem he was occasionally unfocused afterwords (joking around too much). Whatever the case, best luck to him. Hopefully he can find success/happiness elsewhere and in life and his leg issues are completely in his rear view mirror.
  8. With UI losing two assistant coaches, I've been casually following their search (1 down, 1 to go evidently). Saw a link to this article about potential candidates: https://writingillini.com/2021/05/04/illinois-basketball-5-assistant-coach-options-illini/amp/3/ I had to LOL at the last sentence regarding the 3rd potential candidate (hint: former IU assistant Ostrom).
  9. I propose an edit to the title of this thread, replacing the word "investigation" with "charade".
  10. Dare I say, it appears some actual coaching may be happening in Bloomington?
  11. Heck, you only have to go back a couple of weeks ago to see satisfaction and happiness that various players were staying. Now, a couple of those players are apparently expendable. SMH
  12. My impression is that KB would be a definite talent upgrade over the players he is rumored to supplant. My second impression is that he's hellbent on leaving for the NBA as soon as he can. One year rentals are a mixed bag.
  13. Terrible news. I remember going to Slick's restaurant in Carmel back in the late 70's. The telethon to save the Pacers. The man is an icon.
  14. I wasn't sure where to put it, but I have to say this: There seems to be a huge difference (improvement) in the collective enthusiasm about this hire that there was last time. I don't know if it's because of the prospect, and reality, of getting an ex-player for assistant coach, or because of the transfer portal shenanigans, but 4 years ago it seemed like Archie was hired, had an introduction, and basically disappeared. There was some excitement of one of the assistants, but everything seemed to go flat within a week. I hope and see a good possibility that the on-court results will be better this time too. Unfortunately we have to wait many moons to find out.
  15. In regards to your first point, it seemed like Archie was never very convincing/pursuasive with recruits. How many times was a commitment believed to be imminent, but seemed to drag on and on, with both players who did and didn't end up committing?
  16. That sounds perfectly reasonable. They've heard what Woodson has to say and from potential destinations. Ample tme to make a decision has been given.
  17. What a bunch of delusional idiots!
  18. Another pretty old-school dunker was David Thompson. He had a "cradle the baby" dunk that was revolutionary at the time where he put the ball in the crook of his arm and got above the rim then dunked it out of his bend arm with the other hand.
  19. I generally don't care about uniforms, clothing suppliers, or anything like that at all. The only thing I would like to see is that everybody on the team wear the same color shoes (and ditch the pink ones).
  20. Might just be me, but I think the whole "Ivan Renko" schtick needs to be retired.
  21. Todd Jadlow did some taunting too....
  22. I agree. I don't think there is really going to be a coaching search. Maybe they will talk to the guys they already identified, but I suspect that decision has already been made and they will announce as soon as tomorrow to let Roy have "his day" today.
  23. I think so too. One thing some younger fans might no know is that dunking was prohibited in college/HS for a while (from 1967-1976 in CBB). I remember occasions when HS teams got technical fouls before a game even tipped off because a player dunked in warm-ups.
