Thanks! That was a really good article. Something that stood out is this line: "but those 10 lost years boiled off the emperor pressure at the heart of the identity crisis..." I believe this is very true. Nobody was going to succeed RMK immediately following his dismissal. By the Sampson Crean tenures we could have gotten back on the track with the right coach, but they weren't. Archie was just not a good fit. Hopefully Mike Woodson is the right guy. I'm optimistic that is the case.

IMO, this can be mutually beneficial for both IU and Parker Stewart. In fact, I think it's almost a certainty.

Could it be like Andrew Luck's contract with the Colts? No, you can't prevent an employee from leaving for a job outside the league, but you can "own" their rights in that league. Luck can't decide to come back and play for a team of his choice - he would still be under the terms of his previous contract. Maybe Stevens' contract is set up so that if he left for a college job, he would effectively be unable to return to the NBA.

Mike Woodson and His Coaching Staff
pumpfake replied to Hoosierfan1901's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Brings up something to think about. Good assistants come in 3 varieties: longtime guys that don't want to be or previously were head coaches, guys that are ultimately destined to be head coaches, and nomads that change jobs every 2-4 years. I hope Woodson is able to find a guy that will be around for a while along with some younger, ambitous guys that can recruit like crazy. Knight had guys that were with him short term that became HC's like Crews, Dakitch, etc.. Older guys like Felling and Ellenberger. Davis was one of the recruiter type guys. It'll be very interesting to see how the staff takes shape. Edit: Hunter is going to be our recruiting specialist. One down, two to go. -

There's an old saying about "wanting"....in one hand.....

Unsurprised that he didn't return, but wouldn't have guessed he'd end up there. Best luck to him.
