Quinn says no. Woody's fishing trips aren't gonna pay for themselves!

Getting blown out at home by a crappy PENN STATE team lmao. This is what happens when you make an utterly unserious hire. We have another year of this to look forward to because "you gotta give a coach time to get it going!"

“Hey we want to give you a $2 million raise and make you the next IU basketball coach.” ”Ew, no, yucky. You guys flirted with Brad Stevens first.” Cmon. We’re not talking about the high school prom. “Sloppy seconds” isn’t a thing.

They probably would’ve brought him back if IU hadn’t lost out. 6 straight to end the year was too much even for the IU administration. -
If we as fans accept that IU is a mediocre program destined for nothing beyond that then the results are easier to stomach. Getting blown at in the round of 32 after an offseason/preseason of hype becomes a good enough high point. I don’t want IU to be a mediocre program, but the results speak for themselves. The Woodson hire demonstrated that the administration doesn’t take basketball seriously, and I’ve slowly been been coming to terms with it since then.

Why do we have to wait for time to play out? Woodson turns 66 next month. It’s not like we’re talking about waiting to see if a guy who could be our coach for the 20+ years figures things out. Even in the best outcome, Woodson only has a few years left here. You don’t want your “bridge guy” to end up burning the bridge down. -

The fact that getting blown out in the round of 64 and then in the round of 32 with one of the best players in college basketball is considered success for IU basketball shows how down bad the program is. Archie being so god awful makes anything above incompetence look good. If IU accepts that it’s a middle of the pack program then sure, no reason to fire Woodson. If IU wants to be a top-tier program, though? Well, that’s another story. -
Going with Woodson doesn’t make sense in any circumstance except for the one in which IU 100% had to hire an “IU guy.” But, of course, that was never the case and was their own doing. Alford wouldve been a better pick. Went to 3 sweet 16s in 6 years at ucla. Had a good amount of success at New Mexico, winning 75% of his games. Mishandling a situation 2 decades before shouldn’t, imo, automatically exclude him from the job. I don’t care to get into the same circular debate people have had before, so I’ll just say that 2002 was a very different social climate when it came to sexual assault allegations. Kobe Bryant was charged with rape in 2003 and the NBA let him keep playing during the case. Likely wouldn’t happen that way today. Not saying that Alford handled things properly at Iowa, but there’s no reason to believe he’d handle things in the same way now. He’s had 3 head coaching jobs since then without incident. It still just boggles my mind nearly three years later that they hired Mike Woodson. It was a completely unserious hire for a formerly great program.

General Coach Candidate News

Impatient for a winner, Kentucky fired Billy Gillispie as coach Friday after just two years, too many losses and too little appreciation for all the things that come with running college basketball’s all-time winningest program. Saying the Wildcats deserve a leader who understands “this is not just another coaching job,” athletic director Mitch Barnhart and president Lee Todd made the unusual decision to dismiss Gillispie less than two years after he was hired to replace Tubby Smith. What would the last 15 years have looked like for UK if they obeyed the IU commandments? Probably not seven elite 8s, four final 4s and a national championship. But hey, winning is overrated. -

Will those candidates be more likely to come after another bad season next year? It’s not a marriage. No need to try to stick it out for the kids when it’s obviously not working. -
Sure, but it seems very unlikely to me that Buckner would’ve been able to whip up support to fire Dolson just because he wouldn’t hire Buckner’s unqualified buddy. I could see Dolson not wanting to test it, it if he’s just going to be a puppet then might as well not have an AD and save the money.
-
How much control does the BOT really have over an AD when it comes to choosing the basketball coach? Like, could Buckner really have forced Dolson’s hand into hiring Woodson?
-
We’ll never know. I have a hard time believing both (a) they had Brad Stevens ‘in the bag’ at $7 million and (b) Mike Woodson was the best they could do after Brad scorned us. The two theories don’t go together. Picking Woodson just wasn’t a serious decision for a multitude of reasons. If they were serious enough about winning to go that hard after Brad then they could’ve bagged someone else. I just really don’t know how you can go from a grand slam candidate to a pop out.

How I imagine the coaching search went. How old is he? - 63. Hmm. Must have a lot of experience! - he’s never coached college basketball. He’s an NBA coach. Even better! Which team is he the coach for? - Well, he hasn’t been a head coach in almost a decade. Was he a good head coach back in the day? - No. He only won 46% of his regular season games and 39% of his playoff games. Ugh. Well, where did he go to school 40 years ago? - IU Perfect! Offer him the job immediately. So many red flags but unfortunately the only one that mattered was the red IU one.
-
Idk how that crowd even started. Imo, you can tell early on if a coach has “it” or not. It doesn’t always translate immediately on the court, but there are signs within the program. Does anyone really think Woodson has it? Because I think it’s clear that he doesn’t. Archie is 19-32 at Rhode Island yet a contingent of the fanbase says we’re too quick to get rid of guys. smh.
-
It’s why I roll my eyes whenever folks try blaming the fans for IU’s pisspoor program. He’s gone to seven elite 8s in 14 seasons at UK (IU has made seven elite 8s in the past 47 years). One of those seasons was the covid year, and his team was 25-6, and #1 in the SEC at 15-3 when the season was canceled. So, seven elite 8s in 13 seasons. He’s batting 538 when it comes to making the elite eight. Mike Woodson is batting .520 in the Big 10 as IU’s coach, yet we get called ridiculous and the problem when we say he should be fired. It’s all a bunch of nonsense.
-
5 straight tournament appearances with 2 elite 8 trips.
-
Based off some of his recent interviews, I’m not sure Woody knows who he has coming in until they show up on campus for summer workouts.
-
It’s me. I’m overly pessimistic to keep my cover.

2024 PG Daquan Davis to Florida State
Hoosierfan2017 replied to Gnet550's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Yeah he had a foot injury, missed two games toward the end of the regular season, and then played the last two games. Talk about a team full of knuckleheads. Vonleh was nice from the times I met him, though. -

Why do folks think that Vonleh shut it down?
