Indiana vs Minnesota - Game Thread
Hoosierfan2017 replied to Trish's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I think there's a really good chance he snaps if we lose a couple more in a row. I was dyingggg of laughter when he was going crazy at the end of the first half. -
Who cares what they were saying. Newkirk was being talked about as Yogi's replacement in the offseason and we see how that has worked out. OG might've been talked about as "The Guy" to watch in the offseason, but he wasn't delivering on it. He had been underwhelming before he get hurt. He was averaging 9.2 points and 4.5 rebounds per game in the 6 Big Ten games he played in. He averaged 9.9 and 4.7 in the ten games he played in against teams worth a crap. His shooting percentages were down from the year before. He was being projected as a 1st rounder because of his potential, not because of his performance on the court. We had a thread talking about who our best player was a little before he went down and no one was picking OG. I'm not trashing the kid, and I hope he has a speedy recovery and a successful career in the league. However, he wasn't great for us. He was an above average player. They're acting like we lost freakin' LeBron James.

With only two games against ranked teams. L.O.L.

The announcers were milking the injuries hard tonight. We're down one guy from the start of the season. OG was a good player for us, but he wasn't THAT good. They've been talking him up big time since he went down.

If he stuck to throwing down dunks he would be in good shape lol. I don't think it would be crazy to expect 15-20 minutes out of him next year. There should be plenty of playing time available for the taking. -

He needs a little more finesse around the rim but I think a full offseason with us should really help. Right now he seems to shoot too hard at times. -

What was De'ron thinking... Helen Keller would've seen that push off. -

Welcome aboard the tank train! With the tournament essentially out of reach at this point there's nothing left to play for except a new coach. -

JBJ and Rojo getting benched? Can't see him not starting Newkirk. -
I think either way he's going to be fired. Crean doesn't have the personality to voluntarily resign. If we see "Tom Crean resigns as head coach of the Indiana Hoosiers" we'll know Glass fired him. Glass would be letting him say he resigned to save face.
-
All I care about is getting him out of here. How Glass does it is irrelevant to me.
-
I'm talking more about the rumors of him talking negatively to recruits about IU/Crean, telling them not to come here, etc.
-
I just want a successful basketball program to go along with the other sports :(. Glass could go drop $100 million on underwater basket weaving for all I care if we're making final four runs every few years.
-
Basketball and football are the only sports that bring in a profit... WBB loses more than any of the other sports. http://www.indystar.com/story/news/2015/03/13/indiana-university-purdue-indiana-state-ball-state-ipfw-iupui-rowing-tom-crean-ncaa-financial-report/70207772/
-
I'm hoping we're full steam ahead. No stopping until Crean's on a train outta town.
-
I hated Vonleh at the time those rumors were circulating but now I completely understand.
-
Oh he'll absolutely be missed. He's not a good defender, but no one on this team is. He's about the only one who can make up for it on offense. The 2015-16 team had Yogi, Max, Troy, Nick, and Hartman, that's why he wasn't missed that much. We have no one like them coming in. Next year's team will miss him dearly.
-
Take TB off the team we watched get handled by Northwestern and that's basically our team next year. Maybe worse depending on transfers. There's no reason to bring him back when you look at the team we'll have, surely Fred Glass sees that.
-
Lol he really said that it's his philosophy to take guys out when they're doing well? Yikes he's clueless. I can't think of any possible way to rationalize that.
-
That would be nice but this is a good start, imo. The more people we can get to say "wow this team still has a lot of talented players on it even after injuries, there's no way they should be this bad" the better. Once we get their attention I think they'll look more closely at our season and see that things went to crap before anyone got hurt.

"OG Anunoby’s season-ending knee injury and James Blackmon’s lingering lower leg issue exist as an explanation for Indiana not being the Final Four contender it appeared they’d be in November and early December. They do not excuse the Hoosiers being 5-8 and destined to finish in the bottom half of a Big Ten Conference that is as weak as it’s been in some time." I'm so glad that people in the media are picking up on this.
