17-14 is pretty much our ceiling now, even before this game I thought we'd be lucky to get to 18 wins.
-
I agree, even though I feel like our next coach will come from the group of Dana Altman-Chris Holtmann-Archie Miller type of guys we hope have a high ceiling that we can get for cheap.
-
While not completely untrue, half of our team is practically dead. We had McRoberts and McSwain on the floor a ton at the same time.

Interesting. I do think he does deserve some credit for coaching them up into better talent though, I'm sure you know what I mean. And remember, that UK team went on to beat Louisville in the Sweet 16, Michigan in the Elite 8, Wisconsin in the Final 4, and advanced to the championship game against UConn. So they took care of the two best teams in the B1G after Louisville, it's no wonder a MVC team got "upset" by a team full of 5 stars at every position who got hot in the tournament. (I was wrong earlier that WSU got beat by UK in the Sweet 16, it was the Round of 32.)
-
Ok yeah, the team had talent. But what were they ranked coming out of high school? I really have no clue. I'd be very surprised if more than 1 of those guys was in the top 100. I'm not really sure what you mean by "have a chance to play in the NBA." Did they get drafted? I would argue that pretty much anyone who plays NCAA basketball "has a chance to play in the NBA," if you count D-league opportunities and camp invites as a "chance". They were also a missed 3-pt shot at the buzzer away from beating the Julius Randle Kentucky in the Sweet 16 the year WSU went undefeated.

IU VS. PURDUE OFFICIAL GAME THREAD (7 PM ET ESPN2)
AKHoosier replied to FortWayneHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Is your friend Las Vegas? Haha. I think that line is about right honestly, although it honestly wouldn't surprise me if we win by 15. Stuff happens in rivalry games. -
So he's gotten to a Final 4 and a Sweet 16 at Wichita State. He got Winthrop to the NCAA tournament consistently. How far would you expect a team in the Missouri Valley or Big South Conference to regularly get in the NCAA tournament? Eventually, the talent gap is going to catch up with you, superior coaching can only get you so far. It seems odd you would penalize a coach for "only" getting to a team full of mid-major talent to a Final 4 one time.

Exactly. I wonder what other objective fans who follow college basketball think of our program the last 10-20 years. They probably look at IU basketball the way that I look at University of Texas football. They've got all the resources, fan support, recruiting hotbed, money, tradition..so what is their problem? Why can't they put it together? There's no excuse.
-
Even though Vonleh turned out to be not that great and we only had him for a year, we still took the right player there instead of Anya. That kid probably has a legit eating problem. Or he's just lazy.
-
Yeah it's pretty clear if Stevens did make a move to IU from Boston, it would not be a basketball decision. It would be more about moving his family back to the Midwest in the state he spent most of his life. The decision would pretty much be a lifestyle decision more than a basketball one, it would just be up to him where he sees the best fit. He probably does see himself coaching IU one day though, whether it's at age 40 or 55. Maybe, we can hope, he won't want to pass up the opportunity because he isn't sure when he'll get another one. But I agree, he'd be borderline crazy to leave that situation in Boston. He's coaching one of the best franchises in all of sports, and their arrow is pointed sky high right now. They're a draft pick or free agent away from being a legit championship contender.

IU VS. PURDUE OFFICIAL GAME THREAD (7 PM ET ESPN2)
AKHoosier replied to FortWayneHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Hopefully Swanigan gets in some early foul trouble to throw them off their game plan a bit. They go as he goes. Really wish we had OG for this one. -
I've been tough on him as well, but he's played pretty well these past 2 games. He hit some big shots today.

IUMBB @ Wisconsin Game Thread - Sun. 2/5 @ 1:00 ET on CBS
AKHoosier replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
We lose by 30 at Michigan, don't do much better at Northwestern, so how can we possibly keep it competitive at league-leading Wisconsin? I just hope we don't get embarrassed on national TV, but I don't see any other result unfortunately. Hoping otherwise though. -
Wow, could you imagine if all of the B1G schools whose coaches are on the hot seat have new coaches next year? Indiana Illinois Ohio State Michigan Michigan is probably the least likely to make a change, but a growing number of their fans think his best days are behind him. Regardless, the B1G could look a lot different next season. Fun times.
-
Yep, and a lot UK fans are starting to notice that more and more now. I follow their boards occasionally, and a growing number of UK fans are starting to get restless with the kids Calipari is bringing in. They're getting tired of being a stepping stone to the NBA, and if Cal has an early tournament exit this year too, he may start to wear out his welcome.
-
UK fans really upset with Monk for laughing and joking around on the bench while down 20 to UF. I noticed that too, that would not sit well with me if one of our guys did that.
-
So basically a bunch of bullsh!t. It seems like ESPN gets too wrapped up in data and tries to quantify everything by establishing some sort of proprietary algorithm to get people to buy into a ranking.
-
Lots of good games on today, starting with Purdue at Maryland at noon. PU loses today and they can pretty much abandon all hope of winning the B1G, yet I think they pull it off on the road today. I keep waiting for Maryland to stumble and come back to reality.

Coach Tom crean to Missouri (rumor or whatever)
AKHoosier replied to ALASKA HOOSIER's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Is this a result of my post yesterday? If it is, there's no rumor or anything as far as I know. There was just a Missouri fan on TOS national board saying a bunch of their fans have Crean on their wish list. Regardless, I do think it'd be a good fit for him. He'd do really well in the SEC, especially because he does seem to have Kentucky's number. -
FWIW a lot of Missouri fans are hoping they can make a run at Crean after this season, as their coach is just pitiful. I think this would honestly be a good fit, and not that far-fetched. Crean is just a better fit for a school that plays with a chip on its shoulder and pulls the underdog "they don't respect us!" line, instead of a program trying to be consistently elite. Given everything that has already happened this year, and everything that is pretty likely to happen from here on out, I think there's a good chance IU and Crean mutually part ways in a few months and he ends up somewhere like Missouri. He'd be the right guy for a rebuild job there.

I'm hoping 8bucks is a pseudonym for Fred Glass.

Fred Glass accepts mediocre basketball
AKHoosier replied to Magnanimous's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I'm sorry but if the only reason you support the school is because of the basketball program, that's ******* ********. -
Archie Miller is probably just as inclined to go to NC State after this year, assuming Gottfried gets fired. I had no idea Archie Miller played there. NC State is terrible this year.

Indiana @ Michigan 9 PM ET ESPN2 Official Game Thread
AKHoosier replied to FortWayneHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
We seem to always have Beilein's number, I think we pull it out tonight. Michigan isn't too impressive this year, plus their home court is not that loud or raucous. -
Thanks again for starting this thread man! Cut the cord this week and it's my first weekend of AT&T with the Vue combo on my PS3. It's been such an upgrade and I'm saving a decent amount of money. The only drawback is that the guide seems to lag a little bit when I'm trying to flip through channels, not sure if that's the Internet speed I'm at (6 mbps) or my controller, but it's not a huge deal. Definitely an upgrade overall.
