So then Donovan simply isn't interested?

The 5 Biggest Recruiting Misses of the Tom Crean Era
AKHoosier replied to AKHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Pretty glad we missed out on Jaquan Lyle as well. Crean seemed to put in quite a bit of time with him too. Talented player, but I'm glad we missed. -
Sounds like there's dissent among the insiders over there regarding our chances with Donovan. Hickory says dream on, 0708 says there's a real chance. I doubt he'll be our next coach ultimately, but I'll keep hope alive until he files a restraining order against Fred Glass.

The 5 Biggest Recruiting Misses of the Tom Crean Era
AKHoosier replied to AKHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I guess he has done well, averaging 11 ppg this year, 12 last year, and 11 the year before. I do know earlier in the year he wasn't even starting, and Marquette wasn't even very good, so I was basing it off that. He certainly would have helped us the past few years, that's for sure. -
The 5 Biggest Recruiting Misses of the Tom Crean Era

I honestly debated putting him on this list too, but I don't think he panned out too well at Marquette. Certainly an honorable mention at the least, he would have started in place of Hanner and played alongside Vonleh which would have changed the dynamic of the post-Zeller years dramatically. -
This is what I'm prone to believing as well. Why make the decision to part ways now, after a win against Northwestern and an upcoming game against Purdue, to part ways, unless you already know (or have had extremely positive feedback from potential candidates) who the next coach is? For all intents and purposes, we are out of the tournament race. But it's plausible we could beat Purdue, OSU, go on a run in the BTT, and sneak in late. No inside info obviously, but I'm incredibly encouraged by the odd timing of this. I think Glass knows he has an obvious upgrade more likely than not to be the next coach.

Would be the difference between a "rebuilding" year and being a competitive contender in the B1G. Davis is the most skilled player on our roster.
-
What your made-up story failed to take into account was Glass would fully be aware that Louisville, North Carolina, or possibly Kentucky could all be available at the end of next season. What happens if Donovan's mentor decides to hang it up after next year? You think other blue-blood programs are going to just sit idly by if they catch wind that Billy Donovan is going to be available? I'm sorry but get this weak sh1t out of here.
-
Exactly. It's not like Donovan or any other coach holds all the cards. We have leverage too. If we have a vacancy, a lot of good coaches would want to come here. The IU job is only going to be open so many times in your coaching career. Sh1t or get off the pot if you want it.

Yeah, I think he'll call your bluff.

Game Thread : Indiana vs Northwestern (Senior Night)

That was actually pretty cool. I'm glad she said yes, for his sake. -
Game Thread : Indiana vs Northwestern (Senior Night)

I think the empty balcony speaks louder than a 1 point win over an unranked Northwestern team. -
Well 0708 just said he was "kidding sort of." What that could possibly mean, I haven't the faintest idea.
-
I agree with this. Based on reading this and a few other boards, it kind of sounds like IU is wanting to put out conflicting information for fear of things catching on in the national media. The mere mention of "IU hasn't reached out to anyone" is completely ridiculous and goes against everything that has been accepted as common knowledge for the last few weeks.

Coach Search 2017 IU Candidate: Billy Donovan (OKC Thunder)
AKHoosier replied to Feathery's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
It seems like, per the other site, there continue to be positive talks between IU and Donovan, but things have been quiet lately. This type of thing will take time, but it's awfully hard to be patient when I think of what IU would be capable of under Donovan. -
Yet another writer linking Alford to IU, and he mentions Alford's high buyout that would potentially keep him from coming back here. Yeah, that's not what's stopping us from pursuing him.
-
Yeah that's what I meant. Anyone on this board hoping for Billy Donovan doesn't need to be reminded that it's a bit of a long shot, or that we aren't Fred Glass or Michael McRobbie. That's not exactly going out on a limb haha.

Reading this thread was not the best decision I've made today. That I can confirm.
-
Holy holy I like this scenario the best.
-
Exactly. I want us to move on from Crean too, but some of this is too much. I hope it ends as amicably as possible, and no IU fan forgets how hard he worked to get us out of a complete sh!tstorm.

This is all one big tease!

Coach Search 2017 IU Candidate: Billy Donovan (OKC Thunder)

I can't help but feel like a Texas fan who's waiting for Nick Saban, only to end up with our Charlie Strong. -

I bet he tastes gross. But I definitely hope we get him to be our coach. -
Coach Search 2017 IU Candidate: Billy Donovan (OKC Thunder)
AKHoosier replied to Feathery's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
If he has even the slightest bit of interest, get Donovan to Bloomington NOW. Get it done, Fred. You'll go down in the history books as the AD who got Billy Donovan to IU. -
Neat. Billy Donovan is the answer to any team's question, outside of a few. He has a grand slam's worth of credentials. All of your post is just words and trying to be the smartest guy in the room. I wouldn't be surprised if you're one who thinks Greg Tonagel is "the answer". Yes, there are plenty of coaches who could come to Indiana and probably do wonderful things. But none of them have the same credentials as Billy Donovan. Only he knows if he would come here, so it's ridiculous for anyone to say he will or won't come here.
