You could probably take that back to the Crean years as well. Besides a couple of good runs he mostly was middlE of the pack. Other programs have stepped up while IU struggled over the last 20 years. Those programs put in money to compete and equal the playing field. Bad coaching, bad players, bad administration and other programs stepping up moving up the ladder while IU dropped. Sucks for young fans like you however that’s your program you are invested in. Just a middle of the pack B1G program that doesn’t stick out from the rest. Other teams used to be intimidated by the name now 0 programs in the B1G are scared of IU and the mostly expect to beat them. Kid from Rutgers a couple years said it on a podcast. Nobody is scared or cares about IU. Just another team and we expect to win every time we play them. Embrace the grind to getting out of the middle of the pack

Not really at least not for me. I knew most fans would lose their minds thinking IU could buy their way back to top but it doesn’t work that way. It is what it is. IU isn’t the IU of the 80s or 90s no matter how bad their fans want them to be. IU needs to get in line and grind their way back up the ladder. No shortcuts. IU is just another program with higher expectations then other non special programs

Looks like he landed 2 assistant coaches from sitting power 5 teams. For a middle of a pack B1G team in my opinion that’s a good step. Adam’s is known as a recruiter with Midwest and Indiana ties which is huge and Kenny Johnson is known as big time recruiter. A lot more realistic move for IU to steal him instead of 2 assistants from Elite 8 level teams that their programs can match in money.

Texas Tech and Bama will once again be preseason top 6 teams and people expected a new coach taking over a team that didn’t make the tourney to take their top assistants because the new coach had a prior relationship with them. Smart business decision staying with their current teams instead of taken a chance with your friend on a rebuild

A new coach at a middle of the pack B1G program tried to convince assistant coaches that he had ties with to leave their current position at programs where they have been to the Final 4 and Elite 8 multiple times since the last time IU had and fans are mad they couldn’t pull them. lol talk about sunshine pumping. Take a look at where the program you are invested in is at and other then money (which the schools they are at currently matched) why are they moving from programs that are rolling to a program that is starting from scratch. Pretty big leap of faith. Good on DeVries for trying to bring them along but come on people really think someone was leaving Bama right now for IU in 2025 not the 1980s

DeVries job is to get a middle of the pack B1G program competing for conference titles and having more the 1 winning conference record in a 9 year span. Don’t care how much money a struggling program has they still have to grind to dig their way out of the hole that was made. No skipping ahead of the line no matter how bad the fans of a mediocre B1G program want to. Embrace the grind or be miserable. This is where your program is at and has been at.

Sounded like Louisville was on Conwell as far back as December. Hard to compete for a kid that just entered the portal and the other school was recruiting him while he was playing at Xavier while IUs coach was coaching West Virginia. Dix seemed to stay close to home because of a sick mom according to some on here. Wilkinson hasn’t committed anywhere? Who else am I missing that he hasn’t closed on his close to 1 month on the job. Does closing on Enright and Reed count?

For you maybe but not for everyone. Im good with letting it play out with no concern at all.

Dix committed to Creighton when they were his first visit and he went on to several visits after that.

Mgbako is on NC State campus today. Sounds like they are confident in getting him and the Hollmann kid from Sparty

I wonder if coach DeVries keeps the other assistant spot open for awhile. He showed last year he had no problem waiting to fill it. He has enough certified coaches on the staff who can recruit off campus during the evaluation periods.

Hopefully #1 and #2 centers in the portal work out better for their new team then last years #1 and #2 centers worked out for their new teams

Cooley has to be ticked lol. He hired him last year even though he couldn’t do any off campus recruiting. His show cause was up Nov 4th 2024. His first recruiting cycle without a show cause he leaves for IU
