What an all timer lol. We could probably break this into its own thread. He is definitely a name the fits the mold of the board losing their minds missing on him and he didn’t do much at unlv. What a time to be on the board. lol

I did say half the board won’t remember who they miss and never included in that half. You are a recruiting die hard like OF and me and some others on here and are going to remember every target IU is associated with when they move on to their next team however most on here will forget whichever recruit decides to go anywhere else

Yeah I’ve seen it. I’ve also seen kids IU missed out on that posters told me IU would regret missing out on and was told they were big misses turn out not to do anything and forgotten 3 weeks into the next season.

It’s not about the ones you miss it’s about the ones you get. Won’t be the first time opponents took options from IU and won’t be the last. Half the people won’t even remember who IU missed on 3 months from now

Top 25 Kentucky commit Lewis just decommitted

Ius current transfer class is rated 9th by 247 with the 3 kids coming in iu finished 2nd last year. We all know how that turned out. Hopefully the staff fills the roster with the right transfers instead of the better numbers. I would like IU to win games on the court instead of winning the portal rankings in the off season

Hopefully building a roster the right way and hiring a staff the right way and if that takes longer then some thought then I’m good with that. I read and heard people saying they wanted stuff done by the 7th and for me that never made sense so I’m personally fine with how this is playing out. Regardless of if he would have had things set by now or gets it all set 2 months from now the end result will be the same. He will have to have on court results.

IU landed the number 1 center in the portal and payed a bunch and IU missed the tourney Washington landed the number 2 center in the portal and payed him a bunch of money and Washington missed the tourney. Oregon landed the 43 rated center in the portal and probably paid some money and he contributed to a winning team that made the tourney. Transfer rankings are really hard to gauge. I hope a head coach can sift through the mud and get people that actually will contribute to a winning team instead of chasing a number

They do. That’s kind of their style. Laid back kind of feel. Sometimes it works and other times it doesn’t. They do a cheers of the night every night on after dark where each takes a drink for their player or coach or the night. Doug and him have work together before and he is on quite frequently. Goodman has a style most don’t like however he has done it for awhile. Comes off as an a$$ most the time however the guy has a ton of sources and is heavily connected in the college basketball world

Friendly remainder when comparing DeVries to Kelsey next year that the B1G will be loads better than the ACC was this last year. Louisville finished 18-2 in the Acc. 15 of the 18 conference wins were against teams 60 NET or worse (9 of the 18 against teams over NET 100). 3 other ACC reams made the tourney. Louisville got all 3 at home and didn’t have to play a road game against any of them. So in their road conference games they didn’t have to play a tourney quality team.

You can tell some IU fans have had it bad for 9 years. Some want a loaded roster however don’t want recruiting battles against the top teams. Really hard to have a loaded roster without battling the best of the best for those players

Nothing new. Trilly and some other guy put in a crystal ball for IU early however Rabby mentioned he would want to take visits. Turns out Rabby was right and he is going to take visits. Kentucky, Auburn and Florida have since jumped into his recruitment. Good players attract good programs so IU needs to win a recruiting battle against the best. Seems to me it’s a good sign that the kids IU are going after are wanted by high level programs

I think it shows he has a process and he is fine if it takes longer to get the right coaches in place. He showed putting together his last staff he has no problem waiting to fill his staff. He did with Ostrom who was added late late in the process. Only my opinion but looks like he has a list he is working from and went after some top guys from Elite 8 level programs. Good for him not settling and going after other power 5 assistants that their schools fought for them. Just like in the portal if you are going for players that no other top schools want then they are probably the wrong ones to go after. Seems DeVries is treating IU like the big time program it should be. I’m sure there are plenty of coaches lined up for the job but I’m glad he isn’t lowering his standard just because some view it as late in the process on April 9th. If he lands Wilkerson does he get bonus points for doing it without a full staff?

Yeah he called Louisville area his second home because all his dads family is over there. Kelsey also reached out to him last year after he got the job but the timing didn’t work out. Louisville is close enough to be considered a local team for him.

My guess is coach DeVries was banking on his past relationship with each and a raise to try and convince them to come. However trying to pull them from 2 programs that have been far more successful then IU didn’t work out. DeVries went after guys he had a relationship before now he can move on to the next on the list. You keep up those relationships just in case down the road you have an opening and maybe the timing is better.
