  1. B1G Indiana Invite #4/Billy Hayes Invite It was a night of distance races for Indiana Track & Field where they competed across three events under the lights at the Robert C. Haugh Track Complex. To highlight the Big Ten Indiana Invite No. 4/Billy Hayes Invite, Kyle Mau ran his first 5000m of the season where he won in a time of 13:48.01. Arjun Jha was the next Hoosier to cross the finish line and he placed fourth with a personal record time of 13:53.80. Ben Miller also took home a personal record with a time of 14:15.42 and finished in seventh overall. On the women's side, Sarah Schmitt crushed her previous personal best by capturing a time of 16:13.39. Schmitt placed fourth overall. Rounding the competition for the Hoosiers, Jake Gebhardt picked up sixth in the steeplechase and notched a personal record time of 8:58.59. The Hoosiers will be back in action on Saturday, May 1 to conclude the final meet of the regular season. Field events will begin at 1 p.m. while events on the oval are slated to start at 2:45 p.m.
  2. Honest question -- with only 1 year of eligibility and the weaknesses you pointed out would we be a better team for that single year?
  3. Gabe Cupps (#2) Midwest Basketball Club AAU team is participating in the Bill Hensley Run-N-Slam in Ft. Wayne this weekend. I think this link will let you watch his game against the Indiana Elite team. You want the game on court 3. https://gymratsbasketball.com/live-stream/

  6. May a thousand fleas infest your crotch and your arms be too short to scratch.
  7. We've knocked on the door but we also never know for sure if it's genuine interest or are we simply building goodwill with a high school or AAU coach for the future by kicking the tires and letting the kid and school get some free PR.
  8. Good story on Roman Celentano from IDS News - https://www.idsnews.com/article/2021/04/iu-mens-soccer-goalkeeper-roman-celentano
  9. I love this time of year. New '23 name on the IU radar -- Gabe Cupps of Centerville, OH, playing 'up' on the Midwest Basketball Club AAU team and I love seeing current sophomores willing to do that. "Indiana has been the biggest on me, they have been reaching out the most consistently," he said. "They just tell me to keep working, keep getting stronger and keep winning." https://247sports.com/Article/Gabe-Cupps-b.asketball-recruitment-Indiana-Kansas-Clemson-164859062/ Stats HUDL

  11. Jeremy Fears is currently a 4-star recruit and ranked No. 23 nationally by 247Sports. That service lists him as the No. 7 point guard in the class. Even though he's a '23, he's playing 'up' with the Bradley Beal AAU team on the EYBL circuit so hopefully when the EYBL circuit starts we'll be able to get some good stats on him. https://www.thedailyhoosier.com/iu-basketball-recruiting-class-of-2023-names-to-know-point-guard-jeremy-fears/?fbclid=IwAR3Gj35fLmDmEG52S0zWeNhWqAl6PDWMZ6WHJxahGh8LSXRoYTLfy6WSw8A
  12. Young lady is quite the athlete. Took me a bit to decipher but it's impressive. Rockmart Girls Basketball @RockGBasketball Congrats to @BerryKeyarah on being named GACA 6AAA North POTY and region champ in the LJ 18-8.5, HJ 5-1, 100m 12.40, and 4x100 51.47
  13. I'm going to be the optimist and believe the days of a particular player being a chronic thorn in our side are over. Until he proves me wrong, I'm convinced CMW is going to be a far superior coach than we've had for far too many years and his players and game plans aren't going to let that happen.
  14. Jamie Shaw on Phillips performance the weekend of April 17 - When talking with Phillips after his 14-point, 16-rebound performance on Saturday, I asked him who his game most resembles, very matter of factly, Phillips replied, “Shaq.” Yes, going up against, high major, top-100 bigs in each game, Phillips displayed that Shaq-type of dominance on the blocks. A throw back big of sorts, Phillips has excellent footwork with the ability to bury his defender on the block and finish with multiple moves or just dunk it through you. The Ohio native, playing with the Georgia Stars said he hears the most from West Virginia, Ohio State, Dayton, Indiana, Florida, Cincinnati (old staff) and NC State right now. This could be a huge summer for him, as his type of low block big man skill set is a dying breed, but still very effective in the college game. Currently sitting at No. 61, a bump could be on the horizon in the Rivals150 rankings for Phillips.

  17. Smith is an Indiana kid and there's a bit of an automatic bias to want him to play at IU because he is an Indiana kid. Maybe he gets more high major offers and maybe he doesn't. Luke Brown never did and there were a lot of people that really wanted him to wear the cream and crimson. Maybe Smith blows up on the AAU circuit this summer and Matt Painter will look clairvoyant. If it happens, it happens. Right now, we have a number of offers out to other point guards that appear at this point in time to overall be markedly better than Smith. If CMW doesn't extend an offer to Smith, I'm comfortable with that decision.
  18. Rob Cassidy of Rivals on players who improved their ranking based on last weekend AAU play -- Current ranking: No. 77 in the class of 2022 Why he’ll slide up: Rice showcased increased range in Pittsburgh this weekend, catching the eye of our Jamie Shaw and impressing most others who saw him on the floor. The 6-foot-4 guard averaged more than 20 points per game and led his team to a tournament title. Rice has long been a pace-setting lead guard that can get to the bucket, but his improving jumper adds a new dimension.
  19. Travis Branham of 247Sports on PG Jeremy Fears - Fears hasn't spent much time talking to college coaches given he is a 2023 prospect but his father told 247Sports that Indiana is highly interest and is also receiving interest from Auburn, Michigan, Florida State and UCLA. https://247sports.com/Article/Jeremy-Fears-recruitment-basketball-prospect-2023-Indiana-Auburn-Michigan-Florida-State-UCLA-164798208/

  21. All athletes in all sports now have a 1-time option to transfer and have immediate eligibility IF they've not previously transferred. More detail at: http://fs.ncaa.org/Docs/eligibility_center/Transfer/OneTime_Transfer.pdf
  22. One of the more goofy set of ranking numbers: Rivals #117 / PrepHoops #101 / 247 #58 / ESPN #31. Average of 77. Take your pick.
  23. Comments on Filipowski after an AAU event held April 9-11. Rob Cassidy of Rivals: Currently ranked as the No. 117 prospect in the 2022 class, Flipowski outplayed that ranking at the event. Playing for the New York Rens, Flipowski showed off a well-rounded game that included scoring on the inside, the high post and a couple of 3-pointers. He handles the ball well for a player of his size but isn't afraid to mix it up under the glass. His multi-facetted game certainly warrants a climb up in ranking. Eric Bossi: It seems strange to think that somebody who is already a four-star prospect had a breakout performance, but that's what Kyle Filipowski of the Rens did during the day's final game. Currently ranked No. 92 nationally by 247Sports, the 6-foot-10 Filipowski looks like a player who could be on his way to making a big rise in the class of 2022. He's every bit of his listed 6-foot-10 (if not a little bigger) and he's got the type of frame that will be able to carry more weight without costing him athleticism or flexibility. The key with Filipowski is that he blends skill with some toughness and a great motor. He was running the floor, played strong around the rim, showed that he can shoot comfortably from behind the three-point line and he crashed the glass. Filipowski hasn't really had a lot of opportunities to show what he can do over the last year and if his start to the grassroots season was any indicator, he's a guy that scouts and eventually coaches (hopefully in July) will enjoy watching all spring and summer. Filipowski said that Iowa, Ohio State and UCLA have been the most active in his recruitment to date but he could really see things take off. You never want to make too much of one outing, but if Filipowski had already been ranked in the top 50, then that type of ranking would have looked to be pretty legitimate. Look for him to be a hot name over the next few months.
  24. Trevor Andershock reporting Jaden Schutt a 6'5" SG attending Yorkville Christian HS in Yorkville, IL is on the IU radar. Details are behind a paywall but here's some additional background on Schutt. Plays AAU for Illinois Wolves on the UAA circuit. 247 Rivals MaxPreps HUDL # Gms PPG FG% 3FG% FT% RBG Asst TO Stls Blk 20-21 HS 11 26.2 56% 39% 84% 7.9 3.9 1.5 3.6 0.8 19-20 HS 34 22.2 51% 43% 85% 9.1 2.9 1.3 2.1 1.4 18-19 HS 23 15.5 46% 36% 80% 5.8 2.5 1.0 2.2 1.0 March '21 Game Story Commentary from last weekend' AAU event: The leading scorer in the Stars matchup with 20 points, Schutt can put up points in bunches and looked like he was out to make a statement in this particular game. He was locked in & aggressive from the start, displaying his high-level shot-making ability throughout. Already having good size at 6’5”, Schutt pairs that with good, quick elevation on his jumper that allows him to get off and hit shots even with little space. He plays with a bit of an edge to him and came through with some big jumpers that helped to energize the team. His 3-point shooting will be most coveted, but Schutt is also a good 1-foot leaper in space, is effective attacking closeouts and getting to mid-range spots, and doesn’t shy away from contact at the basket. It is easy to see why he is heavily recruited; things took off for him last summer and after they went quiet for a while, Penn State, Providence, & Minnesota have all extended offers this spring. Given the guys I’ve seen in the Southeast and other regions, Schutt looked like a prospect who clearly deserves to be within the Top 100 nationally. Trent Markwith - 2022 SG Jaden Schutt reeled off some impressive scoring spurts today and ended with a 20-point outing to beat the Georgia Stars. Elite shooter with quick-twitch athleticism & can stop on a dime to rise up over defenders. Really pretty shot. Competitive.
