Corruption in College Basketball
Baltimore Hoosier replied to Stuhoo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Why would a high major prospect who in all likelihood end up in the NBA in 1-2 years want to go to college instead of being paid? I'd argue that the college game would suffer majorly from a talent level basis. All it takes to become an agent in the NBA is a college degree (or equivalent experience), an application, passing a 50 question multiple choice test, and $1,350. So I'm not sure how closely these agents are actually monitored. -

Ok... Great. But that doesn't change the fact that the NBA is finally starting to do something with the G-League. As evidence by the mere fact that it's now, in fact, called the G-League as of 2017. Adam Silver said himself in an interview that the 18 year old rule has always been around but has never been pushed by the NBA to high-end prospects. I'm not the first person to talk about he G-League replacing college basketball. I just think that now may be the perfect opportunity for the NBA to actually set the wheels in motion to do that. -

I don't think so.. If the NBA is able to turn the G-League into a more robust system with more teams and a focus on player development, I don't see why the best HS players wouldn't want to go right into the official 'minor league' of the NBA and make money. If the G-League can secure TV deals and keep adding sponsors, I think this is a very real possibility. -

I think the NBA has been setting itself up for this over the last couple years. Adam Silver has come out and said he doesn't like the one and done rule.. Now, the G-League (formerly the D-League before Gatorade threw a bunch of money at it) is collecting major sponsors and could be in a position to pay these guys a decent salary as an alternative to going to college and playing for 'the man'. -

Why would the NBA want to work jointly with the corrupt NCAA when they can change the one and done rule and allow players to jump right from high school to the G-League and make money, be coached by their coaches, and groomed for the NBA? This is very similar to the system in Europe. -

You’re missing the point. I never said the NBA would want to clean up the NCAA. I’ve read interviews with Adam Silver where he makes it seem like he hates the one and done.. and there has been a lot of talk about it going away. So if the NBA has a legitimate ‘minor league’ (the G-League), then what’s the purpose of going to college? Especially when player can come out of high school and be making money immediately. Seems to me that it would be a no-brainer for the best players, who don’t want to pretend to go to school for a year, and really don’t want to play professionally in Uzbekistan for a season, to jump to the G-League and bypass college all together. If the NBA invests more money in player development (which they have been doing as evidenced by the change in name from D-League to Gartorade League. Major sponsorship.) the NCAA and college basketball just become a middle man. I think this FBI scandal is not something the Adam Silver or the NBA want to be mixed up in. So it may be the proverbial straw that broke the camel’s back. Just an opinion but I think it makes sense. -

I think there is a chance that this scandal really ruins College Basketball... I wouldn't be surprised if the G-League changes its rules so that HS Grads can enter. The NBA, as an organization, must hate the negative publicity associated with current players being called "dirty" and being accused of taking money from agents while in college. Severing ties with the NCAA would potentially fix this problem. -
I like the matchup vs Ohio State much better than Purdue. IU can’t do much to stop a team that can rotate 7-footers like it’s going out of style.

I know he was a client of ASM. Just saying I wonder how far back the data goes, and wonder what could happen if some Balance Sheet from 2001 popped up. -

I saw someone on Twitter zoom in on one of the Balance Sheets and Jared Jeffries name is on it. I’m sure that relates to his NBA career but really have no idea what the NCAA ‘statue of limitations’ is on something like this. -

Crazy that the article is just pertaining to ONE AGENCY. This is the tip of the iceberg. -

I don’t know.. there aren’t many details but towards the end of the article it name Izzo, and the Villanova coaches by name.. that’s pretty big news. On top of the specific players it lists by name. -

(2018) SG Romeo Langford - INDIANA HOOSIERS
Baltimore Hoosier replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
The allure of Indiana Basketball isn’t what it used to be. The relevancy of the Hoosiers isn’t where it once was either. Let’s face it, IU hoops is very important to a large group of die hard fans from around the country, but the state of Indiana no longer lives and breathes IU basketball. Especially with the emergence of Butler and Notre Dame, and the resurgence of Purdue. No high schoolers were even alive the last time Indiana won a championship. Really, at this point, most weren’t even alive when IU last made a final 4. It’s an unfortunate but true scenario. If Indiana is going to make it back to the glory years, it going to have to be done with great coaching and hard work. Not the best recruiting classes.. -

I’m doing the same same I did for the Wilkes recruitment.. Assuming Romeo isn’t coming here. If he does I’ll be ecstatic. If not, I never got my hopes up to begin with. -

Huh? More exposure for the recruit for what purpose? If the goal was more exposure, why wouldn't he just pick the school with the bigger fan base? -

I'm wrong, but I at least have what I think is a reasonable explanation. You have zero proof and you're right? Ok. Got it... A 17 year old kid and his family deliberately went out of their way to troll Indiana University. -
And the plot at Michigan State thickens......

(2019) PF Trayce Jackson-Davis to INDIANA

Yup.. From all that I've read, his recruitment is still wide open. Not a great interviewer but how are we now panicking with TJD? -

His family led the IU staff and media on? For what reason? Proof? Recruits and families are put on the spot to talk about specific programs, so they say nice things about the programs pursuing them in interviews. I have yet to ever see a recruit say, "man that Kentucky staff has been real annoying with the phone calls," or, "yeah I like Purdue, but that coach at Butler is way better." It doesn't happen. All of these recruiting battles come down to the wire and most high major recruits have a list of 2 or 3 schools in the mix. To say some kid deliberately trolled IU just reeks of sour grapes to me. To me, it was a tight recruiting battle won by the in-state school. -

Please tell me how you know he made up his mind to go to Vanderbilt WEEKS before the interview... -

I really don't get comments like this.. The kid was 17 years old. What makes you think he deliberately trolled IU? You think he took the time to do these things just to mess with the IU fanbase intentionally for what reason exactly? He must be some kind of diabolical sociopath. I'm going out on a limb here... Maybe he was excited about all the love he was getting? Maybe it was a really tough decision for him that came down to the wire, but ultimately he thought the better choice for himself and his family was to go to Vandy? -

Not to pile on.. but kind of.. You were also claiming that you had ‘insider knowledge’ that Billy Donovan was going to be the next IU head coach. -
I stand by my comments about starting Green over Newkirk.
