  1. Mostly talked about lack of pride and how Coach Miller is beside himself with the lack of effort from the team. It's up as a podcast on wfni, 1070 the fan. The first part is about the Saturday's football game and then they discuss the weeks two basketball games. I've listened to these for several years now and never recall Fish being that critical.
  2. I like to listen to Don Fischer's talk with Dan Dakich on Mondays. He had some strong criticism of the players on today's show. Dakich had already ripped them earlier which was not unusual coming from him. But to hear Fish do that was unexpected and out of character for him. Knowing that he spends a lot of time around the program makes me wonder if things aren't as rosy as we have been led to believe.
  3. I have to think coaches tire of stroking prima donna high school kids and having their jobs depend on their decisions. Not accusing Darius Garland being that way, but you know plenty of kids are.
  4. I've been thinking the same thing. This season going to sort out who wants to be a part of Coach Miller's vision and who does not. I think we have an excellent foundation being put together that will give us the consistency we've been waiting for.
  5. The defense looked better, but we are letting teams make passes to their shooters too easily. Most of their threes were of the catch and shoot variety. If we can't make the shooters put the ball on the floor before shooting, this is what we will get.
  6. Worst free throw shooting I've ever seen.
  7. I think I've seen enough to say we're in a pretty significant rebuild. I just hope it doesn't take as last time.
  8. One thing I appreciate about BTB is there are several posters here who don't take themselves too seriously and have a good sense of humor. I get a great deal of entertainment value just reading this board.
  9. This is the time of year when our lack of quality depth rears its ugly head. The team is plagued by injuries from playing a murderous schedule. By the end of games our guys are gassed. Better players and better depth is sorely needed.
  10. Unless something changes drastically, there will be a lot of opportunity for the freshmen to play. A lot of opportunity!
  11. A lot of teams would take that from the free throw line.
  12. I hope he at least gets a look at QB. But starting him next year behind our OL would get him killed!
  13. I think this year is about finding out, among the underclassmen, whose in and whose out in terms of Coach Miller's style. This year could very well be something very different than the smooth transition we had hoped for. What I expect going forward is improvement and a much better product by year three than we had under the previous coach.
  14. Maybe there has not been as much buy in as we were led to believe. I understand the difficulty of learning a new system on both ends of the court, but there is no excuse for lack of effort. And, going forward, I don't think Coach Miller will allow it.
  15. This game will linger for a while. A LOT of work to do.
  16. The rest of the game will tell a lot about the character of this team.
  17. Sounds like a groin injury that could keep him out for a couple of weeks. He may be one of those guys whose body just can't take the stress of college basketball.
  18. I've thought all along that we're looking at three to four years to get where we want to be. Coach Miller said it takes about three years to fully implement the defense the way he wants it played. Plus, we're adding a new offensive philosophy for players who have always done something different. We'll probably be doing much the same thing next year with a really young team I would expect to start really seeing what the future will look like in year three. After that, the fun should start in earnest.
  19. Not really my drink, but what the hell, pour me one too!
  20. Regardless of how this plays out, I think we are looking at three to four years before we are competing consistently at the top of the basketball world. It will be a while before we have the right combination of talent AND experience to be where we want to be. Remember, as good as the Cheany / Graham class was, they still took their lumps their first couple of years. Even with Garland and Langford I don't think there will be enough to be more than really good next year. With the best class every year since it seems like forever, UK just has one NC.
  21. This is another reason not to get too invested I the recruiting side of college basketball. I want kids to be successful no matter where they go or what they decide. While it can be a fun diversion at times, we create most of our own drama. We are embarking on an exciting new era for Indiana basketball and the decisions of high school kids aren't going to change that. I'm going to sit back and enjoy the process.
  22. That's a pick for his son.
  23. Also a graduate of ISU but from the late '60's. Also a lifelong IU basketball fan. I don't usually follow the "Trees" too closely but I will watch a game now then if I find it on the tube. My only actual connection to IU is the semester I spent on campus in the spring of '76 while working on my Masters degree.
  24. I refuse to get too excited or depressed about what college high school kids decide to play for. I want the best team that Coach Miller and staff can put together and I believe they will do just that. I am ecstatic that we finally have a recruiting strategy that addresses needs and makes sense. And, being a lifelong resident of Indiana, I am extremely happy to see the state made a priority again. I follow a lot of these kids through their high school careers and it's always nice to see them continue at IU.
