  1. Crean was infuriating because he showed us what it could be again. It could be fun to be an IU fan, we could recruit, we could win, we could play a fast paced, fun style but it never lasted. the fact that he could make all that happen was the best and worst thing that happened to us because it proved it could be done here and that it could be good here again
  2. You were likely right but there shouldn’t be any joy in that. I wouldn’t say the hire blew most of us away. I didn’t have the same reaction that you but I kinda shrugged, really felt nothing, kinda like I do now. Fred Glass mislead people when he shares his criteria... I don’t think Archie was who he described
  3. It’s not debatable that some have left because of the negativity, but I would say that without a doubt, the last 20 years has taken a bigger toll on the fanbase and boards. You might as a mod, but I don’t see droves of new posters coming here or the other boards either. It’s a lot of the same names that have been around since the davis/Sampson/early crean years. The reason those existed was because of the Knight years but there weren’t boards then for the most part. we’ve been on autopilot for 20 years and we aren’t backfilling with new, young, passionate fans like we used to and when the diehards that saw the Knight era are gone, we will officially be no different than Penn State, Nebraska, Rutgers etc. there is going to be attrition of fans on boards, had a few losses here and on the other boards but normally there would be a influx of new blood but that isn’t happening. That’s not because of the negativity, it’s because of the losing and how the brand of basketball over the past 4 years has become a snooze fest. it’s not fun to debate whether we are going to come in 11th or 9th in the bigten. Winning cures all
  4. Good day to be a Hoosier fan! Beat a top ten team and land a solid, in-state kid. Love it
  5. Seems really strange that he only seems to take a couple shots a game, why is that?
  6. I do think the experts got it wrong with him. He looks like a newborn deer out there, awkward footwork, sloppy ball handling, strange and lazy passes, lost on defense, horrible shooting stroke. You would think we were watching some 7 foot 17 year old project that is just learning the game. There isn’t anything fluid, smooth, easy about his game
  7. I would imagine Archie will get another power 5 job after this, that’s just how it works, not that I agree with it. In regards to comparing him to crean getting a job at Georgia, I’m not surprised they hired him, he had flashes of greatness. On the flip side, I haven’t seen any flashes, literally none, nothing that says “the sky is the limit” from Archie
  8. Hire a coach that can coach. I guy that you believe will call a timeout with the game on the line and draw up the right play, a play that was practiced and perfected in practice. A coach that knows his strengths and weaknesses and hires a staff to complement him. Hire a coach that loves the game and his players and the rest will work itself out. We just can’t afford to hire someone with massive deficiencies unless they can hide them by surrounding themselves with the right coaches and players. Everyone of the coaches we’ve hired since Knight have had glaring issues that were obvious before we hired them. When an opposing fanbase can outline all of the persistent faults of a coach we hire and then have all of them play out is a sign we didn’t do our homework.
  9. Your quote dropped off. The part about Steven’s not coming back to college and if he did, it wouldn’t be at Indiana. That’s not true, at least the last part.
  10. You’ve said this before and again and again but never with any support for the truth.
  11. I’m all for Archie succeeding but he needs to prove he can coach and win. Just as importantly, he needs to prove he can recruit to our needs and that hasn’t happened either. the worst thing that can happen is we sneak into the tourney, flame our, have little to nothing coming in recruiting wise and he gets extended
  12. “Owned” being the key - I wouldn’t say we’ve owned Michigan State. We have played them well very recently but that’s 3 games out of how many? Overall they have a case to say they’ve owned us if anything last 10 games against MSU we are 4-6
  13. There are teams that we have done well against and others that have owned us. Outside of Iowa, the only teams we’ve owned have been bottom feeders. Our record against Wisconsin and Purdue for example is horrendous
  14. Yes, I’m concerned for this position next year. In Archie’s time here we’ve had two nba caliber players in the post in Morgan and TJD. What happens when we go from that to an unproven freshmen and a 6’6” sophomore. we not only need more depth but more talent and experience. We need a transfer and not just a body but one that can/will start over those two. Like Bielfeldt quality at worst or we are in for a world of trouble
  15. I’ve seen a lot of concern over who is going to play center next year including myself. duncomb of course but it seems like Geronimo can do it too. I don’t like 6’6” centers but he can do it from time to time, good to know
  16. I agree, I think you were mostly in agreement with me too. Crean would still be here if he was making the tourney every year and a sweet 16 every third year. Some fans would be getting restless we hadn’t surpassed the sweet 16 but if we are making the tourney every year and winning a few games in the tourney every other year it would keep people interested, tuned in, caring.
  17. You should grab one anyway but I agree. Some of the names being thrown out are worse than what we have.
  18. Your list is depressing. Scott Drew has Indiana ties, coaches in Waco and doesn’t make much money compared to what he would get paid at IU. Not saying he would leave but unless you know that as a fact I think he is exactly the type we could and should be talking to. Seems from the outside he is a realistic candidate
  19. Scott Drew with Tonagel and a couple IU guys on his staff would get me excited
  20. Hmm, I think it is that current expectation that is driving this conversation. I call that tanking. 8-12 in conference is a bottom feeder, like 10th place ish
  21. Isnt 8-12 tanking? That’s pretty awful 8-12 isn’t getting us into the tourney so that would be 3 seasons without a postseason and 1 where we barely made it.
  22. I agree. I think talking heads like to say IU fans have too high of expectations but that is so far from true. If crean simply made the tourney every year and a sweet 16 every 3 years abs never further, he would still be here. It was the NIT and CBI stuff that killed him
  23. What does a Tonagel coached team look like? Anyone follow his teams closely? Well balanced offense and defense? No gimmicks? His name has come up before and again in this thread. assuming he is a decent human being with enthusiasm and charisma and wants to be on a big stage, if he surrounded himself with assistants that knew D-1 basketball recruiting and even Bigten recruiting like a Lewis, Cheaney, Fife it would be really intriguing
  24. Archie isn’t bringing in bad kids, bad students, nobody that is going to embarrass the university off the court. That means something but I think it means more to the decision makers at Indiana than it does 99% of the fans. However, we have some new blood in positions of power and they CAN push for more, demand more out of one of the most storied programs in all of college sports. it sounds harsh as Archie seems like a decent guy and a guy that means well but I believe that the absolute worst thing we can do is keep him too long. It bad for him, bad for us and bad for players and recruits. You cannot wait until there is no pulse to make the change.
