2022-2023 IUBB Roster Projection
MikeRoberts replied to Five Prime's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Why is Duncomb coming back? I like that he is but it’s a two way street, he has to want to come back and the coaches have to want him back. How on earth are both of those things aligned? He played never and walk ons played over him. -
I’ve said this before but worth repeating. Woodsons only job in the off-season should be recruiting NIL donors/participants. His generation has all the money

(2022) PG Adou Thiero to Kentucky
MikeRoberts replied to HoosierHoops1's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
What state does he live in, when is his birthday and what is the weather like there? There could be a no offer clause issued based on the above -
HE seems like he could be a diverse talent that we need. The other thing to like is that he came from a somewhat successful program, one that made the tourney at least
-
I understand what you are saying but with recruiting it’s a bit different. If he has more Cupps In his bag this recruiting cycle great, but if there is someone else that could have come in and landed 3 of our targets because they had the right connections currently, that is the better option. as everyone said in the fife thread, assistants come and go, recruiting is the most important thing they can do and we don’t have any time to waste in getting better talent here.

IUBB Players in the Portal/Draft Exploratory Status
MikeRoberts replied to Stuhoo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I would be shocked if Duncomb stays - I think I would love for him to stay and develop and be a guy that doesn’t see the floor as a freshman to a senior starter. It would make for a great story for all -
Is that Davidson kid able to do anything other than just shoot? As Demo said, Davidson players are usually well coached
-
I see. I just figured Archie had years to do that and didn’t.

For what?

IUBB Players in the Portal/Draft Exploratory Status
MikeRoberts replied to Stuhoo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Absolutely - great 1 x 2 punch, never had that other punch -
Would we have lost Walsh had we not promoted him? Could we have possibly gotten another recruiter, perhaps an AAU or basketball factory high school coach and also kept Walsh? no way to know but my gut says we could have, I doubt other teams were seeking Walsh out
-
They are a step slower all the time, hence the speed/pace/athleticism or the lack thereof you see in the bigten. It’s not like they get slower throughout the year
-
I feel like you misinterpreted my post. My comment was about those that say the bigten beats players up so they are not healthy for the big dance.
-
I would like to see IU play 3 guys at 6’8” that are versital, long, athletic etc and play with pace and team defend/switching etc i think it would work well
-
100% the bigten lacks elite athletes. It’s not all that different in basketball as it is in football. The elite athletes for the most part are not found in the bigten. That doesn’t mean there isn’t talented players, far from it but those guys are usually very skilled, not overly athletic
-
I really don’t understand people’s comments like this. There is nothing about the bigten that makes players beat up or not fresh when it comes tourney time. One could say the bigten tourney might as it ends so late but but not the style of play.
-
My takeaway from this tourney and most over the last 20 years is that we don’t need to have giant, slow, back to the basket bigs to compete in the bigten, and in fact, we would be better off not having that. these teams with skinny, athletic bigs and in some cases guys 6’8” defending the post perform just fine against the bigtens monsters

I think this is correct and in line. Fife improved IPfW every year he was there and had the winningest season in their history so despite his record there, he did an amazing job as a coach. I think he is an amazing coach. but yes, he was smug in college, at IPFW (family member worked with him there), at MSU and at IU. He’s always been this way, he has always been one to do things his way, he has always been smug, always had his political beliefs, always been against NIL always always alway. So, knowing all these things, why did IU hire him? He is who we thought he is but is - high basketball IQ that can be defiant and rub people the wrong way. I just don’t understand the move to bring him in, then push him out, leaving more of a divide with this already fractured fanbase former players

You conveniently left out the most damning parts of what you said and left in the benign parts, nice! If only they weren’t locked in already! That was the entire point you replied to. I said people have claimed that Fife has been this way for a long time going back to his MSU days which means Dolson and Woody didn’t do their homework. You then replied that it wasn’t you that said that, but it was 100% you and numerous others.you found his exit from MSU to be strange and indicating there were issues. if he was a problem at MSU as you and others have said, this is on Woody and Dolson.

I’ve already said a few pages ago that you could look at things that way. Look, see my golf story as an example; he walked into a situation where his boss was clueless and he and others had to scramble to pull things together for him. That same boss didn’t want to listen to him and preferred to lean on other people that had no experience in college basketball. So for him to be unhinged by what he walked into, I don’t blame him. as a boss, can woody fire him, sure and he did. Does that say as much about woody as it does about fife, I think it does. Fife did not come out of the AAU or high school coaching ranks and therefor arrive as a mystery, he has a long track record in college basketball, woody does not, he was and still remains more of the mystery
-
Or hiring him. Again, rumors here suggest he was this way for years…. Yet Dolson and woody hired him. just say it… I think you are close to saying it was also on Woody and Dolson you can do it!!!
-
It’s not over because you say so. You don’t get paid to make good decisions, make bad ones get to shrug it off and say forget about it. If that were the case, Fife would still be here.:) and yes, crapping all over an alum is not a good look and that travels
-
If you can believe all the rumors you can blame Dolson and Woody for hiring a known problem you can blame fife for being a problem you can blame the haters that put him on blast and make this job less appealing
