Remarkable cool on a couple of plays. Good way to end the half; but keep Walt Bell out of there. -

Indiana is looking good from here. Controlling both sides of the ball. -
We can absolutely win this game! And, we just might. Go IU! I bet a shot of bourbon, Indiana wins today in football against the less than mighty Budgies. Look at all of the fans predicting IU wins! Desperation drives decisions. And it proves that one should not perform one's own lobotomy. That or marijuana is legal and/or available. Or one should put a lock on the liquor cabinet, after the game.

RIP Coach Knight
Dave from Dayton replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Oh, I don't think that hate is the right thing to say that media folks hate Coach Knight. I think that people use words or thoughts triggering hate to get some emotional response. It gets more attention than love or being nice. That results in more activity on a site or on an article. For instance, Dakich used inflammatory and negative words to get attention. Politicians use hate as a motivator. So if a sports writer implies hating Knight's dark side, that gets more $$$ than making nice. Plus, as Mark Twain said (and I post this out of context with revisions): It takes no preparation to be in the opposition. -
Favorite Coach Knight Stories
Dave from Dayton replied to Chris007's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
To this day, I am still floored by what happened at IU in the early '70's. This is not my personal story. It's Indiana basketball's story. It's Coach Knight's story. I was very young at 17 in the fall of '69 when I got a room at Briscoe Quad as a freshman. Walking over to the football stadium and the basketball Fieldhouse was easy. Sitting right next to the basketball court floor was a trip. Those basketball players are so very large. Sawdust and dirt floor of the Fieldhouse put a fog-like haze everywhere. But IU wasn't doing really well. In the last few years of Lou Watson...But he did get Steve Downing, Joby Wright and George McGinnis together along with a more than decent backcourt of John Ritter etc. Do you realize just how imposing those giants were when they were dialed in? But that was part of the downfall of Lou Watson. In '70 -'71 the team was in position to compete for the B10 title. But that team imploded. Fans held signs messaging: Lose Lou. Team members talked to the administration about negative things about the head coach. Lou Watson resigned. Little did we know that the Hurryin' Hoosiers...running offense, was gone. McGinnis bolted to the ABA. In comes Bobby Knight. 31 years old. A disciplinarian, defense first, man-to-man defense, methodical offense. He had to tell the fans that if the opportunity arose, they would in fact go on a fast break, too. A new stadium, too. Assembly Hall...omg! I enlisted in the Navy in February of 1971. Was in for 4 years. Learned about IU from the east coast and inside of a submarine deployed near Europe. Re-enrolled in the fall of '75. Got on the 'other Dean's List'. In Bobby Knight's 2nd season, he took the Hoosiers to the Final Four for the first time in 20 years. Glory! His second season!!!! This! We all know what happened in '75-'77. The winningest program ever! Bob Knight would take the microphone and school the fans. More noise! This is what we need to do...defense creates offensive opportunities. Those other schools do not hold a candle to IU's willingness to work at basketball all of the time...on and off of the court. My gf and I got engaged, IU won the NCAA Championship, and we graduated, got married. (That was phenomenal! I mean the basketball part...just kidding...well kind of. Still very happily married to my sweetheart.) I still reflect on IU beating Michigan...lol. That is what Coach Bob Knight did when he was in his 30's. Brought Glory back to IU. He loved it. We loved the teams and him. We bought in. What a tale. What a ride. Thanks Coach Knight and the players...and staff. And he added 2 more NC banners! -

Coach Knight was intense. From the balcony seats one could see and hear him blasting someone on the court. He forced the team to strive to do their best always. Refuse to lose. He never left a person with an impression. It was more like an explosion. Rude. Crude. Shocking. Demanding. Brilliant. Stubborn. Truly very different. Wow! He was something else. And then some. I wonder if he is to be buried like he said. When my time on earth is gone, and my activities here are passed, I want them to bury me upside down, and my critics can kiss my @$$! Probably not, if near Bloomington Indiana. One of the few times that he changed his mind. -

The key is not the 'will to win'...everybody has that. It is the will to prepare to win that is important. Mental toughness is to physical as four is to one -

I really got more than a kick out of Coach Knight and the Hoosiers. Back in '76 and '77...my then gf and I got engaged and married after graduating from IU-B. What can I say... -
A Purdoo student-athlete on scholarship walks into a bar and orders a green Creme de Menthe on the rocks. The student then complains: "Our underwater basketweaving teacher has to be the most difficult professor on campus. If she wasn't so drop-dead gorgeous, I would have quit that class a lot earlier." The bartender says: "Here is your...ahem...drink. So, you could say that she's easy on the eyes but hard on the pupils?"

Who cares what the national media thinks about IU preseason? No one knows anything about Indiana at this time. Except that we lost the top 4 scorers from last year. That and our starting PG was injured, and he is the starter remaining this year. Galloway is virtually unproven as a scorer. So are the others. As many have said...too many question marks on the roster. Who are the scorers? Do we defend? Will Reneau foul too much? Playing style? Playing together?

Since I graduated from both Indiana-B and Wisconsin-Madison...my alma mater will win! Wisconsin is evidently an 8.5 to 10 point favorite. O/U is 43. That gives us approximately 27 to 17 with UW winning. Not so fast...Wisconsin has experienced injuries in their RBs and wide receivers.* They struggled to move the ball in the first half against the OSU defense. Guys went down. 2nd half was better but didn't score much. And UW barely beat Illinois 2 weeks ago. IU is clicking. Basketball is starting. Men's soccer is #1 seed in the B10 tourney. I have BTN+ and I may have figured a way to cast from my PC to the smart Samsung TV via Roku. Maybe... The stars are all in alignment and my horrorscope is foggy. And I slept in a Holiday Inn Express years ago for a long, long, restless night. LEOEIEIO. I have nothing to lose in this prediction thread...so here goes... Budgies fleeing 'the camp' 24 The Hoosier's young offense grows... 27 FOR THE WIN AT HOME! * Injuries to Braelon Allen, Chimere Dike leave Wisconsin in tough spot (jsonline.com) “Make a game plan and stick to it. Well, there were a few minutes in the first half that were really bad. Then, after the half, IU took over. -

I've been watching some. Trying to cast from PC to smart tv. lol Gunn looked like he was in the game. Galloway and Reneau are fast but cold shooters. No one can put the ball in the hoop. Lots of players getting some PT. Small lineup was fun but not effective. Sloppy isn't quite accurate. Coach Woody is looking like he wants some group to play together and click. They are sharing the ball but..just not getting the ball in the hoop. Assists would be nice. Look healthy and that is it. -

Right now...It is after Hoosier Hysteria. Indiana men's basketball is starting. We are undefeated in the '23 - '24 season! Let's hang that banner already. Galloway is going to shoot 8 and make at least 5 FG's per game. He gained some speed...trust me, right? X is going to be healthy all season and have one hell of a great year. Assists and shooting percentages go way up. Lots of questions about this team. We fans and the team and the coaches learn a lot in the next few games. B1G is a meat grinder. Good luck team! I cannot stand B1G+ costing extra. But I guess, I will apologize to my other half for spending $10. Tell her we saved $50 from going to the sports bar. Per game. You got my back? Knew you would. -
