Seems like the Athletic Director thought he was doing something different with Archie then with Woody. With Archie, seemed to do more with less and discipline and teaming...at UD. Archie did not transfer his strengths at UD to IU. (From my perspective, and not being an insider, it appeared that Archie did not get the support that Woody would get.) With Woody, he seemed to sell the 4 and 1 and knowing what made a pro baller. That was supposed, I speculate, to transfer those assets and knowledge to college ballers and the resultant improvement in quality recruits and a pro-style game. So far, that also has not happened in full. Is it due to not recruiting correctly? Is it due to not having the right players in the right skill-sets? Or is it a problem with the coaches and therefore the administration? But still seems to me to not be a problem with embracing new things or not changing or "tradition of mediocrity". It is a problem with decision making, implementation and follow-through etc.

Not sure what this post is about except for being upset about losing. I saw IU beat Duke at Rupp in the elite 8 in 2002. IU played in the Final game that year. So that is two decades. IU was atop the Big Ten with Tom Crean. So that is one decade. Still, it is not good enough. I will grant that. I don't think that IU's problem is an unwillingness to change. I think that it is an unwillingness to plan to win...and not having that plan, they won't win consistently.

When I was your age... I remember before we had black and white TVs. Had this huge floor-standing radio that had vacuum tubes...before transistors. I remember Sputnik and Echo. I was driving a nuclear fast attack submarine in the north Atlantic and in the Mediterranean when I was 22. I remember Channel 4 and Sammy Terry. I remember the old fieldhouse and saw George McGinnis and others there before RMK and AH. But I water skied last year. Ice skated last year...still have my skates. Don't run, but I walk in a park even when the windchill is in single digits. Travelled to Portugal and Key West last year. And last year I attended IU basketball games...both home and away (3 games). Cut my own firewood. And I embrace change. And support helping others than cannot help themselves. Except for Purdue. While I still hate the fact that basketball went to the 3-point shot...I understand and say get shooters to do that. I also understand why the NCAA went to the 3. It is because not everyone agreed with the RMK way of doing things. Such as: "...can you guard?" And "Mental is the physical as 4 is to 1". (I like the shot clock, though.) I miss his ability to figure out how to best take advantage of matchups. This team is not being put into positions to win And winning is the thing. Well, good sportsmanship and education, too.

My wife and I graduated with the undefeated team. In '82 I earned my engineering degree...not from Purdue but from Wisconsin. I cheer for Wisconsin hockey...and that is it for UW. We watch and cheer each and every game that IU basketball plays. I even watch losses till the buzzer. IU has stuck a fork in the men's basketball program since RMK. I do not want IU to cheat but with OSU's football NIL over $13 million just this year alone...what the heck is cheating anymore? Face it, college football and basketball are now professional sports. Changes are coming more rapidly than ever before. Everything is on the table. Change it if it means a successful basketball program. What does the Indiana University administration view as a successful basketball program? How do they plan to get there? Since RMK IU has churned through one misfit after another. This old guy is tired of it. Been tired of it. I'm thinking that Bloated Chicken Sammy is in error when assuming that old guys want only IU guys coaching and certain named brands and little change. I will even sit in row 33 or 34 and be happier than a pig in $4!+ if they win. Traditions are fun, but winning is 'funner' Change it.

Just attended a seminar on AI. I queried it about the solution to the Indiana men's team basketball underperformance this season. It spat out the answers: 1. More cowbell or 2.

Indiana was ready to rumble 72 Fighting Illinois 86 Coach Woody glares at the Illinois bench, the Illinois team, the crowd, the Illinois mascot, the refs, the scorers' table, the Indiana bench, the Indiana team, the score, and the roof of the stadium. In the second half, the Illinois mascot starts a fight with X. The mascot becomes a belted kingfisher. X receives a flagrant. At the post-game interview, Coach Woody says I do not want to hear anyone say that we are inconsistent. But we do need to work on that uppercut.

Stop with all of the negativity. Kenpom has us in the top 100. That means that we are better than over 200 other schools. Like Evansville, Wotsamatta U.?

Defense was lacking the whole game. Offense was a lot better in the second half. Probably because Wisconsin slacked off some on defense in the 2nd half. Coach Woody is not putting the team and the players into position to win. I do not get why he does not get it. What is he thinking? What are all of the assistant coaches thinking and saying to him? Is the AD talking to the coach? Right now IU is out of the NCAAT. This will not stand.

General Coach Candidate News
Dave from Dayton replied to JaybobHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
The title of this thread is about The General possibly being a candidate for Basketball head coach...? That is a little misleading. Sadly, RMK passed away within the last year. I do not think that he would toss his hat into this ring. I don't believe that he is that flexible./s Going though my list: Mike Davis; Kelvin Sampson; Dandy Dan D.; Tom Crean; Archie Miller; Mike Woodson... -
I'm not happy about the refs. But, through 50 years, I can't think of a time that I was happy about the refs. I say the single most important thing to change is to upgrade the head coaches. Indiana, for example, needs a have coaches that recruit to a plan. If the plan is to have positionless players then they need to get ballers that can do that. If the plan last night was to use fouls to stop Purdue's good offense, then how did that work out? If the plan was not that, then why the heck did Coach Woody.... uh...(not going to beat a dead horse). Never mind. I'm watching an excellent U of Dayton team. And I'm watching Wright State. It is enjoyable to watch disciplined, well-coached role players. Especially when they are scouted well and then players are put in situations that play to their strengths. Hmmm...you know who I am remembering? Over a long time ago...oh yeah... Wonder if a good coach at Dayton would be an upgrade for Indiana. Has anyone ever thought that? /s

I see what you are saying and feeling... This team is up and down. Predicting which team shows up is a crap shoot. It does mean that they have a chance to be on tonight or any night. It also means that we will be unpleasantly let down when they let down. For me, I have not gone into any game feeling...meh. And yes, I feel sandbagged when Ware gets hacked and there are no calls repeatedly...etc. And the other team defends well...and our guards don't score. IU is not a strong team. But at times they are on fire. Tonight...may it be an on-fire night against our pissant lil bros from that brick manure house and cesspool up north.
