University of Dayton is at home tonight. Sold out. They are 21-5. I hope that IU does not offer Anthony Grant a job as head coach. And it's scheduled for 7 PM. Hmmm... /s Actually, we will be watching IU and Wisconsin. Why? Because I have degrees from both and one will definitely win. Regardless I always cheer for IU...unless I am totally disgusted. Even then, I cannot cheer for the other team...no matter what.

This area seems to have gotten over the hump. Maybe that era has passed.

I'm thinking... How much time do I get? I cannot be apathetic about and IU basketball game. Depressed. Yes. Mad as hell. No, not any of that. More like uh..dissapointed. Woody is gone at the end of the season. Probably. But, what do I know? Is it the end of the season, yet? Some think so. The one thing that I cannot understand is: How the heck can PSU be favored in this game by only a few points? We will keep the turnovers below 10. IU will hit over 73% of our free throws. IU will make 5 of our 12 3 point shots. Cupps will not make one mistake the whole game. Reneau gets 12 points and does not foul out. Mgbako scores at will and plays decent defense. All of that happens. Just not this season. And for some, not at IU.

They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread
Dave from Dayton replied to Banksyrules's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
By not having an experienced, smart, capable Big Ten level point guard on the team, to me, seems the single biggest impediment to IU competing a lot better. To compete at the highest levels, there are other things. We all know what they are. (Shooters, playmakers, discipline, improvement, yada yada...) By Coach Woodson's and his recruiting staff's wiffing on getting a really decent PG (and shooters & etc.), this season is punked. And the pitchforks and torches are out because the staff didn't bring home that bacon. So let's all throw them under the bus. Right? So those that think that Dolson can wave the magic wand and pull in a great head coach candidate that will pull multiple rabbits out of the hat for IU... I say, yeah right. How many years have IU's ADs tried? Hmmm....since about 2000. So, g'bye Woody and staff. Hello coach turnover conveyor belt. Turn the page. New chapter in IU tosses old coach and gets a new one. Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss. Ware leaves. Reneau leaves. Mgbako leaves. IU doesn't have a good PG for 2 seasons. MAC castoffs come to IU and pretend to be B1G contenders. Can't recruit. Down the tubes in '24, '25.. '26. Toss coach under the buss. Meet the new boss. Samo... Sure, Woody is struggling. The starting five is flawed. The bench is flawed. Without shooters and playmakers, what the heck did people think was going to happen this season? Is this all on Woody. Oh, yes. But is it? Is it because his recruiting philosophy was wrong? Or is it because he is an inept college coach and can't develop or put them in positions to take advantage of their skills? Or both? Or maybe there's something more wrong at IU. I wish I knew. Definitely the recruiting failed. I don't think many coaches could do much more with this team. Others disagree. So should Woody get another year? Is that the right question? If I were Dolson or Woody at the beginning of this season...we would be working on the recruiting angle. Getting a recruiting plan in place with the right staff to ensure a better product on the court. If Dolson didn't ensure that. Then the Trustees should know that by now. Churning coaches is not the solution. Having a plan and implementing it properly is the job of the Trustees, the AD, the Coach and staff, and the Administration at the top. To me...that is the failure right now. But go ahead and throw Woody under the bus. It looks like he is the most...ah...expendable? And someone has to go. Not the AD. Not the Trustees. Heaven knows who the heck is really responsible. Really? Again? Let's hire the flavor of the month. Dusty May or Anthony Grant or some older, established and certified winner... The new Sampson or Archie or Crean? Keep churning. Keep your expectations really high. Drama Queens. Help is on the way. Great. Fine. Ugh. -
They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread

I've posted before that Dakich was the basketball coach at BGSU (Ohio) while my daughters were there. He did fairly well at first, if I remember correctly. But then, not so well. He got an offer and went to WVa for a week. Found out that they had NCAA challenges. May have found out that the problems were greater than he had originally understood. Asked for more $$. (Similar to what Crean did at IU?) Declined. Returned to BGSU. Wheels came off of recruiting. I do not wonder at all why. Was subsequently not the coach at BGSU. Shocked? Not shocked. Both daughters received a very decent undergraduate education at BGSU. One in scientific and technical editing/writing. The other in Graphic Design. The daughter that is in Graphic Design also got a scholarship offer to go out of state to IU. IU was a 5-year program. But the full ride to BGSU was also super. She went to BGSU because of it's 4-year program and being a better fit. BGSU hockey was fun. Saw them beat IU in football which sucked bigly. Basketball was with mixed results. -
Girlfriend (wife of 46 years) and I are celebrating tonight! Taxes done. No IU men's basketball on tap. Saw our estate planning lawyer tonight and we're good. Went out for lunch. Got a walk in just before the rain. Not going to BW3 tonight for the boneless. She likes the other kind.

Well, that plus the fact that Dakich was and is a by-the-rules person from a certain perspective. IU needed someone who was not involved with the recruiting. Dakich was not involved in recruiting. And they needed someone who would throw themselves on the sword for good ole IU. They wanted a disciplinarian. (And was disposable and never have a chance at the permanent Head Coach position.) Dakich never did have a chance to get the top dog position with IU basketball. Once he realized that, he started to burn bridges. He continues to this day. No one would hire him to coach anything more critical than a potato. He does know his X's and O's. But no one in their right mind would be on his team. -
A different perspective on living in the USA vs Guatemala. Is the chemistry right? I came to this country with a stutter and not knowing English. Last night I won my 83rd Moth Slam (dailykos.com) My wife knows English language rules fairly well for a native of Indianapolis. She is a retired elementary school librarian and now volunteers teaching English Language Learners. It is funded through the county and the state...via the county technical career center. We also helped teach those seeking to pass the US Citizenship Exam and interview.

You can borrow mine. I was in the Navy. And my father knew a few choice ones. I did not know some things like that were possible in this universe. -

Ware just missed 4 free throws in a row. He has no bounce at the line.
