IU unveils its alternative jersey
Dave from Dayton replied to iubb's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Ask me! Glad you asked. Well, change is inevitable. I'm thinking that lots of young people may have been clamoring for IU teams to sport black unis. So I just hope that they look better on the court than in these promo pictures. I didn't like the dirty looking new uniforms. And I wonder about the font being used. Looks digital. I have asked my daughter, the graphic designer, what she thinks. My 30-something year old nephew says they look like an 80's digital alarm clock numerals. Says everything is painted black in his neighborhood just south of the circle in Indy. I could now dial up the snark. I could ask if the players if they'd wear the face shields during the game. And, maybe the helmets would be a good idea playing in the Big Ten. I read on that other site when one fan posted that he'd give a hard pass...but IU doesn't do hard passes. I feel like the Wizard of Oz when I say that the one thing that we do have is tradition... Wonder if the candy stripes will fit over that. So I won't say anything until I see it on court. Hope it looks great. And I hope IU is learning to get over that hump. The have been working on it. -
The ole 'Picket Fence'. Whoa! Would never have thought of that. So very original. Actually, it was more like the IU defense was doing 'The Wave'. Timed perfectly to let Smith get to the rim. Probably practiced it lots. Choreographed... For a couple of them it may merely have been the matador defense. Ole! Maybe not. I'm not going back to review any darned win by other teams in Indiana that are up near Laffy ette.

Hypothetically you're the AD
Dave from Dayton replied to southernindianahoosier2's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Any AD worth their salt would already have plans and contingencies laid out and vetted. The AD would have talked to the Trustees and to the President of the U to ascertain their perspectives and would have tested one's plans on them. The buyout is a thing. Coach Woody's plans and details are things. How the team and the season went is a thing. The long-term plan for the athletic department and men's basketball program is another thing. One does not wait until the end of a season to make up one's mind. A prospective new hire for HC coach would have already had some off-record talks with consultants directed by the AD or a cutout. There would be minimal surprises in all of this at the end of the season. In theory... But, I think that Woody's plans are vitally important. That and how the AD perceives that they are realistic...considering. -
Prediction League RESULTS Thread
Dave from Dayton replied to Str8Hoosiers's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
The issue here is not that we got a few flagrant fouls, made a lot of turnovers, missed free throws, didn't defend, had a simple offense, had a flawed roster, and dodged debris falling while watching the Hoosiers at home, or took a few liberties with our female supporters, we did. But you can't hold an entire season as being the responsibility of cheap @$$ drop ceilings or a team or a coaching staff, or referees, or the NIL, or money buying players and coaches. For if you do, Chicken Little, then you are indicting this university and all universities and the NCAA and cheap @$$ sports arenas and others that love basketball and the chasing after the almighty dollar all over the world. Well, you can do whatever you want to do with those drop ceilings. But we're not going to sit here and listen to you badmouth architectural decisions, the lack of building maintenance in SSAH, and international finance. I will be at the bar. No not that bar. The one down on the corner. With the really huge flat-screens showing the KC Chiefs' and the tight end. -
Wake me when IU becomes good again. Said Rip Van Winkle.

Beer run! Can I get you something?

Is Taylor Swift cheering for IU?

Other than a bad defense the last 10 minutes of the first half... And can't hit frees or threes... And bad matchups... And... I mean, other than that we would only be down by... uh... What is the foul count?
-
Indiana is a great 2nd half team. This game is ours!!
-
Sparks cannot put the ball on the floor in the middle. Holy crap.
-
Stop their guards with that give and go...
-
I do hate Purdoo. Beat em like you mean it.
-
No one will get called for living in the paint.

How is Xavier? I want all our arrows in Coach Woody's quiver. IU needs a guard that can get the ball across the timeline in under 8 seconds. And then get the ball in play soon thereafter. If Cupps starts and Galloway doesn't take over the PG duties and Ware gets a foul within 3 minutes of the start... Coach needs to be screaming about Edey planted in the paint for over 3 seconds. If any of the above happens, I will... I do think that IU has a really good opportunity to stay within 10 points of lil bro. If IU hits free throws, then I will ... (Spoiler alert: watch the second half.)

Not sure how to stop him...either: 1. Xavier or Sparks get a Flagrant 2...take out their big; 2. Swarm him. IU wins against POTFB in the paint(er).

David Bromberg ~ Someone Else's Blues (youtube.com) SOMEONE ELSE'S BLUES (David Bromberg) David Bromberg When I woke up this morning, everything seemed all right. My woman called me from New York City. She said, "Darlin', did you sleep well last night?" She told me I got three checks in the mail. Hallelujah! I got a refund on my union dues. But when I woke up this morning, I musta had someone else's blues. I swear I don't know why. I don't know why I feel this way. Well, I got, I got someone else's blues in the midst of an almost perfect day. I don't owe anyone any more money. All my cavities are filled. If I pull my hand outside my pocket too fast, I might drop a couple of fifty-dollar bills. I got more dope than I can smoke. I got more chicks than I can use. Somehow when I woke up the morning, I guess I had somebody else's blues. I swear I don't know why. I don't know why I feel this way. You know I got someone else's blues in the midst of an almost perfect day. I swear I don't know who the man is that this trouble belongs to. I wonder did he do a murder? Great God, what did that man do? He's a no-good lying rascal, but I guess he's pretty smart, Cuz he's outside havin' himself a real fine, sweet, happy time and his blues are right here, breaking my heart. I swear I don't know why. I don't know why I feel this way. I got someone else's blues in the midst of an almost perfect day. Xavier or Sparks hits Lerch below the belt. IU beat POTFB in the paint(er).

I disagree with the above assessment. The single most important thing is to have a prospective coach vetted, reviewed, and to have had people reach out to see how interested the prospect really is. Then when you have one essentially confirmed without a doubt, and the end of the season is imminent, that is when you pull the plug on the current coach. Dolson has more than enough information to be able to assess where Woody is going, what his thoughts are, of what this coaching staff is capable. Wins or losses the rest of the season are details. Simply, just more data. One obvious outlier is will Coach Woodson actually pull a rabbit out of the hat and win out. Or win the BIG Tournament. And get an invite to the big dance? Is Woody actually playing the long game? Dolson would know. That is the kind of thing that they probably talk about. If IU makes the dance, lol, then all of the above is for naught.
