  1. I'm happy that the IU administration took the big picture route and hired Coaches Woodsen, Matta, Fife, Rosemond, and Hunter. This has shown a holistic athletic-management , planning and implementation for the future of the basketball program..and, for Indiana, surprising execution. Well done! I am most concerned about the overriding power of the almighty dollar. It drives so very much in this economic world and college basketball in the USA. Sure, there will always be basketball in college. The rapidity of change has already shaken college ball and the NCAA and the athletes. The consolidation and growth of the P5 conferences parallels the growth of the corporations in the world. Who is in charge? The competition to the NCAA has reared it's head and is just now flexing it's muscles. What will the effect of all this mean to Indiana University basketball etc.? PS. As for the near-term IU basketball future...shooting percentages, turnovers, slow starts, health, coaching...not the biggest concerns..but always it is recruiting. I do like that IU upgraded the guards and the shooting. Next season's roster will have some serious shoes to fill. Almost all we need is an I. Thomas, J. Hulls, C. Cheaney and G. McGinnis.* But since we have apparently good recruiting going on...I'm not worried. I do think that IU will see some transfers out and in. I'm not concerned about it...just curious at this point. * Heck, while we are wishing...how about maybe Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Michael Jordan...gee and why not Larry Bird?
  2. I'm all for Lander getting in when he earns it...from Coach Woody's perspective. Sure he has potential. But, in the Syracuse game he had the opportunity to really do some things at critical points in the game. Two turnovers...and dribbling more than 10 critical seconds when those could have been used to win the game. And fouling Girard with .8 seconds allowing him to hit two FTs to win the game for Syracuse. Maybe one or some of these cause Woody pause... Phin makes bad decisions but not at crunch time against Syracuse and possibly giving IU an L. We also don't know when Phin will actually score like he did today down the stretch. The backup PG position is open for Lander when he proves himself on court and off. We don't see practices. We don't see how he comports himself in other situations. Lander seems to be the one to control his destiny. If Lander goes...then he goes. Next man up to fill the kid's shoes.
  3. Got to clean up the slow start and the early turnovers...
  4. What's with the duplication echo repeat saying twice duplication echo repeat saying twice??
  5. Needed Tamar and Leal in to hit some. Now that opens up for inside game. A few stops...Race steals! Glad Nebraska waited for IU. Very gentlemanly of them.
  6. Got to start getting plays going. And it would be nice to get rebounds. Comon!
  7. Getting ready for the first in-conference basketball game. The start of a great new era. First thing is a beer run. Then a jump in the pool I'm thinking of a beer float.
  8. I'm not wringing my hands and hoping that Nebraska and/or future opponents are tired etc. I know that stuff happens in any game that potentially may have an effect on performance by us and by them. But it is interesting to hear about the pros and cons going into games. I do remember discussions when RMK was HC that were similar. So it isn't just being snakebit over the last 2 decades that drives this fan forum into a looney bin. Why do you think that we are called fans? (Hint: fanatic) I am wondering how to improve free throw percentages...and 3's...and to reduce turnovers...and to have a better bench...and etc. But worried? No I'm not. I'm glad that the guards have gotten upgraded this year. I'm heartened that the players seem to like playing for Woody. Defense has looked really decent albeit against lessor competition...no surprise here. As we jump into the more difficult stretches of the season I look forward to the games. They are great entertainment. And I do believe that each season, now, will bring an upward trend in wins. We will be needing some bigs, shooters and ball handlers...with size. Now if football could get the coaching staff and other pieces into place...
  9. Well, me and the wife are watching tonight! Getting fired up. Go Hoosiers!
  10. I'm looking to Barrell Rick and WtFleek for leadership here: IU candy stripers 79 Nabisco candy corn 62
  11. I would like to thank the Academy for this award. By the way, I had a turnover for breakfast, too.
  12. So I have a number of questions about Syracuse. Why did Syracuse lose against Colgate? Why is Syracuse seeming to play up and down? Which Syracuse will IU be playing tonight? What happens to Coach JB if Syracuse loses the next 3 games in a row making them 3 - 6? Should I take the over or the under?
  13. Purely rational and objective Dickie V*: IU men #14; TJD POtW! Duke, Purdue take top two spots in Dick Vitale's Top 25, Indiana's Trayce Jackson-Davis top player (espn.com) *Vitale, 82, just returned to announcing games after battling melanoma...a very emotional time for him. And, as an aside, ESPN continues in the effort to regain any credibility by sensationalism and subjective analysis? Huh?
  14. Do we get the first draft pick? Oh. Well. Thanks for putting the prediction game together! POTFB!
  15. Jayhawks are no longer undefeated. Another one bites the dust. Go Flyers!
  16. Kansas by 3 with about 1 Maybe, maybe not. Kansas started playing defense. Dayton just has to stop transition and do what they have done...share the ball.
  17. Dayton leading #4 Kansas with 7 minutes remaining...68 - 61.
  18. OK. I will take a stab at this game prediction. To date, Syracuse is 3 - 2. Today they play again in the Atlantis Tournament. The other team is rated #19 and is favored by 4. Their scoring has been up and down. And I haven't seen much of them except for the UConn game. Game is on the road for IU. Initial impression is that they play up to the competition...and are flexible. Can IU handle the zone and will turnovers be under 15? What will IU look like against a decent team on the road...coached by a great coach? IU 75 j' Accuse 71
  19. Hope all are safe, with loved ones, and enjoy this great holiday! I hope that you all get stuffed. Honest...I meant that in the nicest way. Trust me. PS To those that manage, moderate this site and to those that make up the community of IU fans and posters...Happy Thanksgiving and thanks!
  20. Both of my brothers went to Purdue. My parents wanted me to go to Purdue. I said: You have got to be kidding! IU has had the Old Oaken Bucket...what? FOR TWO YEARS!! If Purdue doesn't cancel this game, again...or whatever...IU will bring the bucket back to Bloomington for a third year. It's just the right thing to do... POTFB!
  21. 76 - Hoosiers 59 - Boogercats like to turn over the ball; don't defend the 3 well; don't steal the ball since West... but are better than some of the competition that we've seen. Marshall almost became known as the Boogercats but that lost out to a really decent handle of The Thundering Herd....which obviously refers to the buffalo, I mean bison...uh...nevermind. PS...have an outstanding Thanksgiving!
  22. Jeez. After reading this thread and getting depressed, I asked myself what could be worse than the above scenarios. So I took off my bifocals and washed my face...after taking out my hearing aids. Took a few ibuprofen, my meds... Then I reflected on the basketball program at IU since RMK and started looking for my bourbon. But I am out. I really like college basketball. Correction, I really liked college basketball and football. And I hope to like them a lot in the near future. But the worst thing may be happening. The P5 universities and conferences that really give direction to the NCAA have botched college sports. If any of us are left that think that college sports is not being bought and sold to the highest bidders...then enjoy it when the Alabamas and Ohio States of college football scene are in the BCS4 every. Single. Year. How is professional ball doing with their salary caps? I can't wait until all players have corporate pins and patches and logos on their uniforms. And the referees are also paid directly by the home team or the university that paid the non-P5 college to visit. That will be the single worst thing to happen. Oh, did I miss something already? PS: I really am a cup is half full kind of person. Excited for IU basketball! And for the players getting some fair compensation. But wonder about the all mighty dollar and the corporations, etc. I have a wonderful family and friends...and actually, for real...I am not and never will be out of bourbon.
  23. I'd follow Stuhoo through hell and high water or into a bar if Stuhoo was buying! IU 35 Barf & Gag 0 Other than astronauts and the Subaru Outback that I have...the only good thing out of that place up north is...ugh...nothing.
