General Coach Candidate News
TheWatShot replied to JaybobHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Did I miss something on DeVries? I hadn't seen anything about him anywhere and just within the last few minutes I've seen 3 different posters mention him. -
Every year, I have a "Doomsday scenario" involving a team(s) I don't like making some crazy run and getting to bask in it while I wallow in the misery of being an IU basketball fan. Back in the day, those scenarios usually revolved around UK during their run of Calipari super-teams. More recently, they've featured Purdue. The scenarios often require a decent amount of dumb luck and fortunate breaks, but the scenarios themselves still exist no matter how silly they might seem now or in hindsight. Anyway, with the news of the Cooper Flagg injury the other day, here's my Doomsday prediction for this year: Purdue gets placed in the same region as Duke, manages to reach the Sweet 16, and either gets a wounded Duke team that's still missing Flagg, or worse, the 8/9 seed that beat the wounded Duke team in the second round. Maybe Duke would still handle them even without Flagg. Maybe Purdue gets beat in the first round by somebody like High Point. I don't know...but after last year, I don't think I could handle another deep Purdue run.

SEC semifinals are #3 vs. #8 and #4 vs. #5. What a conference.

Saw their game with Purdue last night. They got lazy toward the end of the first half and let Purdue back in it. He called timeout and ripped them. They had the lead up to 15 by early second half. It's been so long since we witnessed real, unfiltered coaching here. -

Clearly we just need some posters to start talking in absolutes about our new coach. That will draw the attention of outsiders, who will start talking about it, and our fans will then see them talking about it and assume they heard it someplace else. -
Looks like playing until 1 a.m. the night before may not have been worth it.

Don't worry, it'll be someone else tomorrow.

Every day we have a new coach. Yesterday it was McCollum. Today it was Brownell. Who will it be tomorrow? I'm going with Shaka Smart. Maybe my post will be where the rumor originates! -
Purdue down 16. The teams who will be 13 seeds next week are hoping like hell they draw them.

Fletcher Loyer lands awkwardly on his left elbow, now Kaufman-Renn is limping. Smith has 3 fouls. Purdue might be in some trouble.
-
"Kaufman-Renn trying to dislodge his defender" after he puts another elbow into Goldin. Totally normal and legal basketball play, of course.
-
If there were 4 seconds left in the game, that gets reviewed and overturned (maybe, it is Purdue, anyway). I don't know why they don't review it with 4 seconds left in the first half. Dusty was irate at the end of the half. Michigan got up 10 and then stopped playing.
-
Meanwhile, Kaufman-Renn out there casually throwing elbows while the broadcasters talk about it like it's completely normal.
-
I don't know how, after nearly 3 full seasons, teams still think you can back off Braden Smith.
-
I can't believe Mason Gillis is still playing college basketball. He's a year younger than Romeo Langford.

It might have been when Crean was hired. Each time we've hired a coach, it was never someone that had "smoke" in the days leading up to it. -

Can't remember which posters, but 2 months ago there were a couple guys on HSN who said Iowa was going to fire McCaffery after this season so McCollum wouldn't get away. Not just speculating, they sounded pretty sure of it. -

There are some IU fans who only root for the basketball program and have enjoyed taking pot shots at the football program over the years. That got ripped away from them this past year and they've not handled it very well. -

I noticed this the first summer he was here and he got Flory Bidunga's name wrong. I was told it was no big deal and coaches made mistakes like that all the time. -

Not only that, he uses the same format for each one. "(Name of school and coach) has emerged as a candidate for (name of school), source told the Field of 68" -

Remember when Otzelberger was our coach for a couple days last week? Those were good times, and his theoretical teams played hard. They don't make 'em like that anymore. -

IU football isn't going to go 11-1 every year. He could win 7 or 8 next year and I'd still be happy to have him here. -

I wish Wisconsin hadn't cared what Bo Ryan did in D3.
