  1. At this point what guys were ranked doesn’t really matter. The bottom line is we have a team full of role players. Newkirk is a 3rd guard. RoJo reminds of Will Sheehey, great guy when he’s your 4th or 5th best guy, but a train wreck as a leader and primary player. This team just has a bunch of average guys. Nobody on this team is great at anything. No great shooters. No great ball handlers. No great rebounders, or defenders. No great slashers. Not particularly long or much size. It’s just a bunch of role players.
  2. Something to think about is when he’s going to notify the coaching staffs. Can you imagine calling Archie an hour before a big game, “Hey Coach, I know you have tip-off of a big game in an hour, but wanted to call and say thanks, but no thanks. Good luck tonight!” This doesn’t seem like the type of recruitment where they give notification too much beforehand, as they haven’t seemed to want things getting out.
  3. Yeah, not be Debbie Downer, but likes on Instagram don’t really mean that much. As you scroll down your feed you just double tap on almost everything that looks remotely interesting as it passes by.
  4. Haha, that's funny. I lost to Barry in college too. We played them in a holiday tournament they hosted in Florida my freshmen year. The big difference is my school was also DII, not a team in the SEC.
  5. To me, if this is even for real, it only makes me feel better about IU landing Romeo. I'm sorry, I just don't see a reason for Romeo to go to Vandy. I was more worried about UNC and KU.
  6. If this package deal does play out, that's got to (at least I hope) be good news for IU. There is no way Vandy made the impact on Langford that IU made on Garland. There's just literally zero reason for Langford to go to Vandy, but there are numerous reasons for Garland to go to IU. That all made sense in my head.
  7. You too! I feel like I haven't seen you post much lately, good to hear form you!
  8. I couldn't care less what numbers the players wear. I don't see any reason to restrict it, unless it's an NCAA-wide thing. Agree with Hardwood83 overall, Indiana doesn't need anything crazy in terms of jerseys, but I would love to see alternates that use the Indiana script, which I think will happen at some point as that seems to be the new 'sign off' on all the videos. Not sure if that's a directive from Archie, but it seems like it happened after he got to IU.
  9. It could have simply been that Green didn't spend the summer in Bloomington. Over the summer, Archie seemed to mostly be talking about the guys that were there, which makes sense. Doesn't mean Green wasn't bought into the philosophy.
  10. That was awful. Feel horrible for Gordon Hayward, and pulling for a full recovery. As a Celtics fan it sucks too, I mean that pretty much ends their season, and then as an NBA fan in general it really stinks as the East is pretty over as well. Stinks all the way around.
  11. Steve or Sam? Sam's not on the staff.
  12. Pretty sure Cal called and flipped him literally minutes after his press conference announcing for Washington.
  13. My recollection was that he was down to UNC and UK and then both backed off, and that's when IU became the destination.
  14. It will be something stupid like an X games suspension for Roy and "probation" (which is essentially nothing) that will allow the Dick Vitale's of the world to complain about how Roy got hammered unfairly and he only cares about the kids, and it's punishing the current team, etc., etc., not people that did the crimes. Which actually takes the focus off of how egregious what UNC did actually was. Yet, in reality the penalty will amount to basically nothing.
  15. I agree. RJ Barrett trimmed his list last night. I think it was Duke, UK and Oregon. What do those schools have in common? All Nike schools.
  16. Just heard Jeff Goodman suggest Chris Mack as a replacement at Louisville. Just makes me think the more things change , the more they stay the same. Goodman said he'd be a good candidate because his wife is from Louisville and he's done such a fantastic job at Xavier. Really? Really? In this climate we're just going to recommend Chris Mack and not question how he's landed the recruits he has at Xavier? I have no idea if he's dirty or not, but I know Xavier has been in on a ton of top recruits the last few years.
  17. Kind of sad that Pitino couldn't win more than 1 title with all these hookers and cash payments over the years...
  18. The NCAA has clearly turned a blind eye, but I also put some blame on the coaches and media. I realize doing so would put your coaching career in jeopardy, likely ending it, but the coaches have had chances to clean this up and they haven't done it. The coaches and the media know who the dirty ones are. Several years ago Izzo came out and ranted about not being able to compete with dirty coaches. Well, if it bothers him so much he could have named names. I realize that's a stretch, and Izzo would have essentially been giving up his career, but if some coaches became whistle-blowers years ago, again an incredibly difficult thing to do, a lot of this could have been cleaned up. The media too. One of the reasons I have such little respect for Dick Vitale is how he constantly waxes poetic about certain coaches who we all know are dirty. You think Vitale doesn't know that Cal, Boeheim, Pearl, Pitino, etc. are dirty? Of course he does, yet you'll find him there every Saturday this Winter defending them all. Same with some of the other mainstream college basketball media, especially the more investigative guys. I also realize you need proof and can't just start making accusations off the cuff, but the larger point is this could have been cleaned up by the industry, yet for decades prominent people who claim the virtuous and in it for the kids have have turned a blind eye as well.
  19. I realize this is focused mostly on Adidas, but it will be incredible if Cal/UK come through this unscathed.
  20. I hate speculating on this stuff, but also remember the time period. Crean was getting booed at Assembly Hall and the team was terrible, then all of the sudden what seemed like unplanned Bryant and Thon Maker show up at the same game. I honestly don't think Crean was dirty, but always did think those visits were odd.
  21. Which I think is the right way to go. I know some people are down on "positionless" basketball because of Crean, but that's not really what Crean ran. It might have been his goal, but he never got there. Crean ran more 3-guard lineups, which I hated personally. Positionless is more a pg, a big, and then a bunch of interchangeable guys between 6'5ish and 6'8ish that can all handle, shoot and drive, while defending multiple positions. IU never really had that under Crean.
  22. I would also say that Flint was hired not only for East coast recruiting ties, but for his decades long experience as a D1 college basketball coach, both as an assistant and head coach. That's important for a young coach like Miller.
  23. User error, I read the exchange with you and Brass Cannon completely wrong. I thought you were commenting on the part of his post about Forrester being happy to come off the bench for four years. On Morgan, I agree, it would be bad to lose him for his senior year. Unless he completely breaks out this year in a big way, I don't see him leaving.
  24. I would be highly shocked if this kids mentality is "can't wait to come off the bench for four years". They interviewed his Dad on ITH and one of his quotes was that what excited them about IU was that Archie felt Jake could make a big impact right away. While there's some rawness here of course, a 6'10", long athletic kid is not coming here to ride the bench. I'm sure with his size and athleticism he's hoping to improve into an NBA caliber player. Not saying that will come to fruition, but I doubt he'll be happy coming off the bench for four years.
  25. Archie definitely needs to land the big fish/elite talent, but what I like is that he's targeting guys and then landing them. At a basic level, recruiting is about accumulating talent and getting the guys you're targeting. Especially towards the end, so many times Crean swung and missed on primary, secondary and even third options. At at least early on, Archie is targeting guys and landing them fairly quick. Regardless of some of those guys are ranked, that's huge IMO.
