Spring Game Thread - 4/15 at 1830 EST on BTN2go
akhosrof replied to RBB89's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
You're right my apologies: one for each. Cameron did have a couple of nice TD throws in that video too. Although, I disagree with you on not needing a huge arm in our offense. The back shoulder timing passes to the sidelines have been a staple in our offense since Nate has been starter. Our offense did not have that when Nate went out. Need a QB who can get mustard on those throws. -

Only a highlight reel but lots of tipped balls at the LOS for the 6'1" Cameron. -
Must be a hot rumor: "Vanderbilt" is the first auto fill for Tom Crean on Google, and "Vandy" is the first auto fill in Twitter.

(2017) WR Joshua Johnson to Iowa State
akhosrof replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Football Recruiting Forum
Wouldn't be surprised to see him de-commit again before its all said and done. The kid is a good receiver who's stock is going to go up. He's going to continue to get good offers. It's extremely early to hold your breath about any commit. For both the player and the team, it's all about posturing. Kind of disappointing because he really seemed to hit it off with Simmie and some of the other players. However, we are stacked at WR. He probably saw that on his most recent visit. We have incredible talent even at the bottom of our depth chart at the position. With JJ the best. -
(2017) LB Bryant Fitzgerald to IU

I hope he visits Morgantown. He'll never want to go back. -
Bryant comes up big to lead IU over Kentucky
akhosrof replied to IndyHutch's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
To Bryant's credit, while he isn't the most athletic, he is a smooth athletic and he has done an outstanding job of improving his fitness since the beginning of the season. At the beginning of the year he would get winded and have to be taken out. Compare that to the last game of the season when he was running circles around an exhausted Diamond Stone. -

Bryant is STONE COLD! Ice flows through that kid's veins as a competitor. How many other true centers are demanding the ball with less than a minute so he can shoot free throws? How many other freshmen, much less? Bryant has a very smooth stroke. Another offseason working on quickening his release and he will be unstoppable hitting shots from all over the court. I hope we can get one more year with him, but he certainly helped his draft stock last night. -

(2016) QB Chad Voytik (Sr Grad Xfr from Pitt)
akhosrof replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Football Recruiting Forum
Good read here: http://hoosierhuddle.com/hoosier-blog/7tfe1bqooo8po7wiym7lzfhrct6tq9/2016/3/16 Was a highly ranked recruit coming out of HS. Solid athlete with good arm strength. I remember how well the offense moved with Tre at QB, Voytik may be able to similarly add that other dimension to the offense. -

I love that CKW is keeping all options open. He learned the hard way in 2014 how important QB depth is. The more guys competing the better. I don't think Wilson has brought in a graduate transfer before... -
Selection Sunday on CBS 5:30 ET (+ Chat)
akhosrof replied to FortWayneHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
We can thank ourselves for the poor selection. Abysmal performances in the Maui and B1G tournaments, we deserve it. However, as Hoosiers we should be reveling in the opportunity of high profile match-ups against other Blue Bloods like UK and UNC. IMO this is our opportunity to prove ourselves that we belong. I am pumped for these match-ups. Time to avenge 2011! -

I haven't followed spring practice much, so I am curious to hear how the D is doing as well! Speaking of spring practice... I was surprised to hear Zander had surgery and was out. I wonder how Lagow and King are doing? Big opportunity for them with Zander out. -
What finish will make YOU happy with IU Basketball this March?
akhosrof replied to Trish's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Trying to be positive here, it is very difficult... One way of looking at things, it may be good we got this loss out of the way: we nearly blew games against Purdue and Iowa at the end. We had a five game winning streak, if we won the B1G tournament we'd be at eight. I wonder how many national championship teams ended the season winning fourteen games straight? Streak like that are difficult. If we do make a run, maybe this loss keeps us from otherwise burning out in the Sweet 16 or something. The false sense of confidence from our five game winning streak is over, let's get some desperation back in our game. This year is different than last year. Last year we showed no signs of being able to compete against top teams. This year, sure we may play down to our competition, but we have shown the ability to beat anyone. We didn't have that potential last year IMO. With all that said, I would be very much encouraged by an Elite Eight. Possibly a Sweet Sixteen depending on who we lose to and if it's a close game. -

We are absolutely loaded at both RB and WR. I wouldn't be surprised to see Patrick back at WR come training camp. He may be too good a WR to move him from the position, regardless of depth CKW loves playing freshmen. Enis and Gest have the ability to contribute immediately. Majette is talented and will be in the mix. Alex Rodriguez is a physical freak and I am sure will get a look. Patrick may be there now because the young guys aren't there yet or still need to develop. -
Thunderous dunker! Has Dominique Wilkins-esq finishing ability around the rim. I continue to be amazed with how strong he goes up to the rim right after getting a rebound. Love his motor as well. The kid has enormous potential. He can be a perimeter lockdown small forward, or play as an active power forward in a smaller lineup. If continues to work on his shot and adds strength he could be a force to be reckoned with!

I think even Hoosier fans realized Nate is a developmental NFL prospect. He played his entire college career out of the shotgun, there is going to be an adjustment period for Nate learning to take snaps under center. It is even more difficult for taller guys to stay compact in the drop back because of all the moving parts. All of this while going through reads. It is a brand new timing and decision making process, and if the footwork isn't right, there will be accuracy issues. Where Nate is going to shine is in the team interviews: displaying his football intelligence and how genuine of a person he is. He has a big arm and a large frame he still hasn't grown into yet. He also has some excellent game film and production against top competition. A team will take him in the later rounds and he'll either be a third QB or a practice squad QB his first year. After a year in an NFL film room and workout program, anything could happen.

Love it! Coach Hagen mentioned that Coach Allen is going to be a head coach one day. If we win eight games next season, CKW will have every big time program with an opening calling his phone. You never know...

(2017) ATH Lynn Bowden to Kentucky
akhosrof replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Football Recruiting Forum
This ^^^ It's will be hard to keep guys like Johnson, Bowden and Fitzgerald, but for the reasons you mention you take the high ranked early commitment anytime you can. CKW's extension is really reaping dividends so far. -
(2017) WR Joshua Johnson to Iowa State
akhosrof replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Football Recruiting Forum
Would love to keep him but you can't keep your hopes up with early commitments. It's just how the game works. The team gets the momentum and positive rankings from the early commit, the player has an offer he can leverage and get attention with. The bottom line, it's nice to see our coaching staff's eye for talent validated by a big time program like Notre Dame. We got a late start to the 2016 class last year. With a solid coaching staff and CKW locked up long-term, we are already starting to see the benefits with early commits. It's only going to get better from here... Buckle up for a wild ride we are sure to gain and lose a few recruits as the year progresses!
