Quality Young Coaches vs Tom Crean.
akhosrof replied to Feathery's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
The funny thing about this discussion is that Mack and Bennett could legitimately win the national championship this season. If either guy wins, would they even consider taking the IU job? We like to think we control the cards here but some of these names being thrown out could very well turn us down (again in Bennett's case). -

As long as we are hosting OSU or Michigan I agree![emoji1] -
Wilson agrees to 6-year contract

62, I am a firm believer of you get what you pay for. I believe CKW got an increased assistant coaching budget with the extension. Knorr was an unemployed defensive coordinator previously let go at arguably the worst P5 program in the nation. Who else was knocking on Knorr's door wanting to hire him as a DC? CKW probably didn't have the budget to go get an established name like UNC did with Gene Chizik. And didn't have the budget to lure a talented position coach to leave a big program to come be the DC at IU. Teams are paying a lot of money to retain position coaches. In short, IMO a guy like Knorr fit the budget for the experience level we were looking at. CKW gets a new extension, gets enough money to get Coach Allen to accept a lateral move from USF, and now is able to give Coach Hagen a promotion to leave TAMU. Unlike Knorr, Coach Allen was in demand. Auburn considered him for their DC job. AAC schools have been paying to retain coaches. I am sure Coach Allen got a nice raise to come home. I don't have anything to go on, just my opinion. Bottom line, the coaching staff is much more talented than it has ever been. -
UPDATE: IU signs 21 in football class of 2016

Good summary of our signing class, with coaches quotes: http://iuhoosiers.com/news/2016/2/5/FB_0205164112.aspx -
Cannot wait to see the plans for the southern end zone. How will it fit in with the scoreboard? Will it be required to be moved? Will there be a tunnel under the field connecting the new south end facilities to the north end? Good stuff!

UPDATE: IU signs 21 in football class of 2016
akhosrof replied to IndyHutch's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
I love seeing the progress we are making in Ohio. There is a lot of talent there and we are starting to win some key recruiting battles there. CKW is in Ohio today for a HS coaching clinic. Our offense is becoming well known in the Midwest to the East Coast! Now that CKW has the extension I am expecting major dividends next recruiting season! CKW was on Sirius XM yesterday and talked about how Indiana HS football is improving but still isn't very deep. We only got two recruits, but we got two studs and were in the final running for a couple of other good ones. Progress! -
(2016) JUCO TE Ian Thomas to Indiana
akhosrof replied to HoosierReb01's topic in Indiana Football Recruiting Forum
Love seeing that he is sticking to his commitment. I am sure the TAMU offer was very difficult to turn down. The Aggie fans have been very classy to him on Twitter congratulating him on sticking to his commitment. Seems like a good kid. -

We must have made a positive impression on 3-star LB Pernell Jefferson. He committed to Nebraska last week before his official visit to Bloomington. This would be an enormous flip for us. [attachment=3328:ImageUploadedByBtownBanners1454294144.150469.jpg] -

Nice! I wonder if this is connected at all to JUCO transfer Ian Thomas getting an offer from TAMU?

(2016) DE Allen Stallings to IU

Same hometown (Oak Park) and high school as Simmie Cobbs. Nile Sykes is also from Oak Park. Stallings said he knows Leon Thornton as well (who went to the same HS as Sykes). Nice Chicago pipeline we have going here! https://edgytim.n.rivals.com/news/stallings-flips-to-indiana -

I'd wager he received an SEC/ACC offer close to home. -
(2016) JUCO TE Ian Thomas to Indiana
akhosrof replied to HoosierReb01's topic in Indiana Football Recruiting Forum
I like Fuchs'a game a lot. As we saw in the Rutgers game he has big potential as a redzone threat. He got some good looks in the OSU game and nearly caught what would have been a game tying TD pass on the final drive. A lot of natural talent, but still raw. Big frame to add weight to (is he done with basketball?) That was quick. I wonder if they know something or if they are merely assuming he will flip because it's an SEC West offer. I haven't seen anything from McCarthy yet on Twitter but he made the prediction for TAMU. Hopefully CKW will get one more shot at Thomas. Thomas only has two more years of eligibility. I'd imagine it would be hard to break through at TAMU. Thomas has a relatively clear path here. Which is a big opportunity with the B1G's #1 offense. -

Good post. I have noticed this as well. It appears ESPN places a big weight on their own Top 300. WayneFleek: a lot of fans in this topic are excited because of the schools we are going against for these three star guys. We aren't beating out MAC schools, we are getting guys that have big offers or decommitted from big schools. In addition, we are starting to see the type of residual results that successful programs have. We are finally breaking into the talent rich Ohio and got a lot of really good recruits from there for 2016. This past week we saw the fruits of our staff's labor recruiting the Tampa area. In addition, CKW, Coach Johns with the QBs/WRs, Coach Frey with the OL, Coach McCullough with the RBs, have been excellent at developing talent. I'm excited to see what they do the next couple of years with the sort of talent we are getting now. On the defense, Coach Allen and Coach Inge are going to get some awesome results as well! These guys are working their tails off on the recruiting trail! -
(2016) JUCO TE Ian Thomas to Indiana
akhosrof replied to HoosierReb01's topic in Indiana Football Recruiting Forum
Hope we can keep him. As good as our offense was last year imagine if we had a TE with some speed who could split the seem. Thomas would have an easier path to playing time here. Thomas was a relative unknown. An offer from TAMU is a big credit to our coaching staff for the initial find of talent. -

The more I hear from Coach Allen the more I love the move. It sounds like this is the exact position Coach Allen wanted and he made the career moves he made to get this role. He's ready to go!

[attachment=3300:ImageUploadedByBtownBanners1453842791.251764.jpg] 2016 ESPN Top 300 recruit (170th) - Oregon State commit (had de-committed from Cal) Mostly offers from the west coast. Oklahoma was the most eastern school with an offer before we offered. Makes you wonder if the coaches have a good feeling about this one?
