  1. This day just gets better and better! I know Glass said bowl games are like cold beer, they are all good. However, we deserve a good bowl game better than Natty Light :)
  2. Rutgers lost too, so we finish above them in the B1G standings.
  3. Man I am pumped for this Saturday! It will also be fun to scoreboard watch as we jostle for a better position in the B1G standings hopefully getting a better bowl game! As a side note: I read an article recently about preliminary discussions about holding the Bucket game in Indy. What are everyone's thoughts on this? Illinois and NWU started holding their rivalry game in Chicago to try and help attendance. Given students are on Thanksgiving break each year for this game, it might help attendance holding the game at a central location. However, there is something to be said for a 117 year history of playing on-campus. With this team on the cusp of bowl eligibility, it would have been an interesting test to see how well attended this game would be if it were in Bloomington.
  4. Nice! I got my tickets months ago through IU and paid face. Rookie move on my part, should have waited and got them on StubHub.[emoji51] Oh well, my wife and I had an awesome time!
  5. Section 2! How about you?
  6. Pretty solid turnout of IU fans at the game today! Lots of here we go again looks after falling 21-3, but the offense looked great after that. There were some Rutgers jokes heading into the fourth quarter, but UMD was no threat to score points quickly through the air like Rutgers was. Sudfeld made some NFL throws today. Mitchell Paige is a scrappy player, very fun to watch. Offensive line did a spectacular job pass blocking outside of the fumble sack. And Simmie Cobbs is going to be a BEAST! Hard to believe he's only a sophomore and a former defensive player. Another offseason under his belt as a WR and he has a chance to play on Sunday's.
  7. It's ridiculous there are those saying they wouldn't take a bowl at 5-7. The extra week of practices and inter-conference competition for our underclass men, especially in the secondary, is invaluable. Not to mention the seniors who have gone four or five years without a bowl. Most of these guys will never put the pads on again, and would give anything to prolong their careers another few weeks. Then we do have guys who are going to play on Sundays who will benefit from extra looks in an inter-conference game, like Nate and some guys along our o-line. Nate's best football is still ahead of him. Look at him, he still has a baby face and has an enormous frame he hasn't grown into. Some team is going to draft him in the mid-rounds, or put him on a practice squad, and after a year in an NFL weight program he's going to be a man child. I understand the thought process of not wanting to reward CKW and have him in a situation where him getting into a bowl on a technicality is not a true reflection on his performance. But we cannot take out that frustration at the expense of our boys. Regardless, it won't matter because we are wining next week!
  8. Will you guys be tailgating? I'll be in CC01, I also think there's an official IU tailgate near the stadium.
  9. I'll be there too can't wait!
  10. I can't watch!
  11. 200 yards rushing... What a BEAST!!
  12. Makes one think, when the B1G split up the divisions and it came down to IU in the East and Purdue in the West, I wonder if Glass considered the added cost of competing in the East? The head coaching salary differences between the east and west are pretty significant. Michigan, OSU, and MSU round out three of the top four in the conference, Maryland is about to pony up a big salary with that Under Armour money, and I'm sure Rutgers will cut a big check now that it's receiving a full share of B1G revenue. Maybe we could have negotiated a coaching stipend from the conference after the division split :D
  13. You get what you pay for. Unless Glass is willing to pay Bo Pelini $4M a year and pay for top assistants, firing CKW and replacing him with Carey or Campbell is not going to lead to different results. Whether the stats say so or not the defense is much improved. They are playing more confident and aggressive, getting sacks, tackles for loss and turnovers. The Achilles heel is third downs. The offense isn't turning the ball over. We have a great offensive line, and a solid set of skill players. Unfortunately, if it wasn't for the Rutgers loss I don't think this conversion is being had. But considering the near losses against SIU and Wake in similar fashion, the Rutgers loss was kind of coming to us. It's slow but the team is trending up. Gotta pay up if you want different results. Otherwise, no point in making a change.
  14. Bo Pelini is owed more than $7M from Nebraska over the next 5 years. That amount gets offset by any salary he gets from another school. Could be an option :D
  15. Unless Glass is willing to drastically increase the football budget and get Bo Pelini and pay for top assistants, I am swaying toward giving CKW an extension barring blowout losses against UMD and Purdue. Carey or Campbell might bring some initial excitement to the program, and a different mid-west based recruiting strategy, but they both run spread based offenses. Both are sure to go through the same growing pains as CKW went through. We already have a great offense. Carey's offense requires a mobile QB, which is different from any of our recent recruits outside of Diamont. While we are letting up lots of yardage, the defense is aggressive. We are getting takeaways and sacks. The team has played every game this season competitively. This team just needs to put away games. After getting over the shock of the RU loss, I am confident we are trending up. The risk/reward of getting someone like Carey/Campbell to replace CKW isn't worth it. Let's beat Iowa and lock this topic! :)
  16. @gerrydinardo: B1G 2016 Recruiting Update Ranking based on Star's 1 OSU 2.PSU,3.MSU,4 UM,5.Neb,6.UW ,7 Minn,8.RU,9,NU,10.Maryland 11.PU 12.Iowa 13.ILL14.IU This is going to be a crazy offseason in college football with all the coaching changes. We have a real opportunity to steal some recruits if we can just go bowling and get some momentum. Otherwise, it is going to be very hard to gain ground unless we start over.
  17. Then we have Peyton Ramsey in the 2016 class, but he won't be ready for 2-3 years. Good talent and great production for Ramsey, and an awesome get as an Ohio prospect. I like the prospects of King a lot but we certainly need a holdover in 2016. I think King is the starter in 2017. If he surprises next year and is ready to go, that is great. But I'm glad to see CKW isn't taking any risks and is looking for a JUCO to compete for the starting job.
  18. I'll be at the UMD game cheering my tail off! Can't wait
  19. Duke is the exception, not the standard. Duke also got a lucky draw in an absolutely pathetic ACC Coastal division. Maybe if IU was in the B1G West, but we're in the big boys division. Two problems I have with CKW: 1. What is his recruiting strategy? Is it sustainable long-term to recruit NC-GA-FL and expect kids from SEC territory to come to Bloomington, IN? I would rather have a coach who makes legitimate inroads with high schools in IN, OH and MI. Especially playing in the B1G East our recruiting should be picking UP. We should have no problem getting OSU, UM, MSU leftovers who want to play against the guys who they played with in HS. Either CKW is really bad at recruiting the Midwest and he is left with having to resort to recruiting the south, or he is not even trying to recruit the Midwest. We've let three top instate QB prospects slip through our grasp. Sure, they may be legitimate reasons in each case, but where there's smoke there's fire. This is IU's best chance at being competitive IMO. Which is why I believe we need a guy with true IN/OH roots like Pelini or Campbell from Toledo, Rod Carey. This is the direction I believe Hoeppner was taking the program. 2. We keep hearing the same exact post game press conference: "need to keep our pedal on the metal and stay aggressive at the end of the game." We heard this last week for the MSU loss and in the wins versus SIU, WKU and Wake. I am happy CKW is taking responsibility for poor coaching, but shouldn't we be seeing improvement? Believe me, I want CKW to succeed. I want us to win the UMD and Purdue games to go bowling. The boys deserve it they've played their hearts out this season! The defense is improving. Much better effort this season. I love the takeaways, pass rush and aggressiveness against the run. My main fear is we take this explosive offense for granted. We fire CKW and our offense sucks and we no longer have the firepower to keep up with the big boys in the division. However, CKW has to earn his extension. We can't give him an extension for four/five wins this season, and expect a different result the next four years. Especially with the conference schedule going to nine games, that's insanity. This is an extension or fire offseason, or there will be adverse effect on recruiting that will set back this program at least another two years.
  20. This is a great post. Right now IU is last or second to last in the B1G in recruiting. However, with all the coaching changes there is plenty of opportunity out there! Best case scenario in my opinion is win the UMD and Purdue games, go to the bowl game and end up with seven wins. In that case you give CKW the extension and hope to steal some quality de-commitments from the coaching changes around the country. We also need to score a top JUCO/5th year transfer to push for the QB job. Remember, conference schedule goes to nine games next year, the round to a bowl game gets more difficult. If we lose the rest of our games, or only end up with five wins, it will be hard to justify bringing CKW back. We can't give him an extension, and it is unfair to expect him to be able to recruit with an uncertain future.
  21. I am fine with moral victories against OSU/MSU if they can be built upon and become wins against PSU, Rutgers and UMD. Sadly they don't.
  22. http://www.indystar.com/story/hoosier-insider/2015/10/22/indiana-football-kevin-wilson-rutgers-fan-frustration/74260236/ Article from the Indy star with a "careful what you wish for" theme. Overall the article makes some OK points but I disagree with a couple of the main points: I don't agree with this at all. First, as others have pointed out recruiting has gotten worse the past two years. Second, there is plenty of talent instate and in Ohio. Michigan, OSU and ND are programs that recruit nationally. They cannot get every top recruit in the region. Even when you consider the next tier of recruits in Ohio being recruited by PSU, MSU and Wisconsin, we are still getting beat by UK, Pitt, and heck even some MAC schools, for that next tier, which is still very good. Here is an article detailing how the younger Stoops at UK has prioritized OSU leftovers in Ohio, and has built top recruiting classes. http://www.cleveland.com/osu/index.ssf/2015/01/the_big_ten_killer_why_kentuck.html There is no reason why IU cannot employ the same strategy to get better recruits. Which is why I believe a coach with deep Ohio roots like Pelini or Campbell would be great. We have a coach from NC who is trying to recruit SEC territory, which is equivalent to running in quick sand, while dabbling in a picked over Chicago. I love our guys, but our recruiting strategy is terrible. We are getting beat up in our own territory by Pitt and UK.
  23. Reports say Campbell is not on UMD's list. Luckily for us, if we are in the market for a head coach, the three AAC head coaches (Houston, Memphis and Temple) will be the hot names. I doubt any of those three guys would even consider IU. IF we were to hire a MAC coach, Campbell would be a great fit. MSU, and even UK, have built great recruiting classes recruiting OSU/UM leftovers in Ohio. We need to hire a coach who has strong Ohio connections who will treat that area as in state. We can't let a school like UK continue to encroach on our recruiting grounds.
  24. I'll put this here for reference. If we want a guy that will recruit Ohio hard: http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/mac/2015/10/20/toledo-rockets-college-football-coach-matt-campbell/74271496/
  25. $$$ talks. Bring in a winner like Bo Pelini and he'll get this program to 7-8 wins a year very quickly. Of course, paying Pelini and his level of assistants is going to come at a cost IU has never paid for football. In the B1G East the cost of even 6-8 wins, with no potential of anything more, is going to be enormous. Otherwise, we will hire a MAC coach and it will be a crapshoot whether we will get any better. And if we do get better, that coaching prospect will leave for a better job in three years. Think CKW as a top coordinator took this job with the intention of being here long-term? He probably planned on getting us to 7-8 wins and coaching in Texas or an SEC school by now. High school recruits are fickle. Recruiting is all momentum and excitement. This program had a lot of momentum after a 4-0 start and the OSU game. The loss to Rutgers hurts so much because we had a real chance to build positive momentum. Creating excitement on the recruiting trail is hard in your fifth year as a coach with no more than four wins to show. Five years in we shouldn't have a defense full of under class-men and being fed the same excuse of being inexperienced. Our recruiting classes are lagging behind even Rutgers and UMD, and pretty much on par with Purdue. We have a poor presence instate and in Ohio, and a pretty poor recruiting strategy of trying to make inroads on a picked over Chicago-area. The recruits are not going to get any better after five years of losing. If CKW cannot get to six wins and win a bowl game, we have to make a change or risk setting back the program another two years because of poor recruiting.
