  1. I guffawed at that comment too but I think there are plausible explanations other than “she’s wrong.” Maybe it’s most likely she’s wrong. But if “we” doesn’t include the search firm? Maybe she’s technically correct. If IU already has its coach lined up, and that person isn’t an active coach, it could also be correct.
  2. and then remember that folks tried to pitch the freshman they signed later as a “replacement” for McNeeley. On the scholarship chart, sure! lol.
  3. Pete Thamel has been on College Gameday 2x saying he talked to Dolson and here’s what he’s looking for. The first time, it was someone with high major HC experience who’d won tournament games etc. The second time — last weekend, can’t find video — it was a few minor things but “someone who will attack the portal, not run from it.”
  4. I would sincerely encourage obsessive of this search to consider: 1. Both Thamel missives seem to indicate he’s talked directly to Scott Dolson 2. Goodman is an actual journalist so he’s not just blowing smoke, though when he editorializes it’s pretty transparent. As @Hoosierfanyuh mentioned, he’s careful in choosing his words. He surely has connections at IU, however, it seems like his info is coming from the coach/agent side of things 3. Other than mayyyybe some leaky donors or athletic dept. staffers, the IU side of things has been basically silent (though see #1 above). 4. Focus on actual, material happenings. May got an extension, for example. There have been some milquetoast denials, which the denier could easily “change his mind” about, or use as leverage for more money in his current job. Not much else has happened publicly. 5. Finally, no one is really out until the job is filled. I mean there are coaches who are contractually unlikely, of course, but failing that, we don’t necessarily know much
  5. Sure, I mean his big exposure is on BS to IU. The date stuff never made sense.
  6. I mean…there was some obvious trolling last week, right? But it was in jest, and whether or not he knows anything will be borne out within ten days or so.
  7. Yeah I don’t do bracketologu but I find it interesting enough and IU has spent the better part of a decade on the bubble. So I’m not @Uspshoosier but I have a pretty good handle on it. Not convinced UNC is in unless they beat Duke tomorrow, not convinced Texas is in without more work, and I’m not sure West Virginia is in either, though admittedly I think WVU would be out more in a “committee does something dumb and WVU gets jobbed” way than in a “didn’t earn it” way.
  8. Just a note, since Boise actually won: possible Boise loses tomorrow or Saturday, in which case SDSU losing today may actually help IU
  9. I don’t know anyone else here personally as far as I know, but 1) no one knows who I am on here and 2) I live out of state, so the density of IU fans where I’m at is lower (but not nonexistent)
  10. The problem is you’re not rooting hard enough
  11. ROOTING GUIDE 3/13: Wake over UNC Marquette over Xavier Wisconsin over Northwestern New Mexico over San Jose State Houston over Colorado Texas A&M over Texas San Diego State over Boise State Illinois over Iowa Texas Tech over Baylor Louisville over Stanford Creighton over DePaul Nevada over Colorado State UK over Oklahoma UConn over Villanova Bold are most important other bubblers; everything else further down the list or knocks out a potential bid thief.
  12. He’s not my top pick but he is the best coach in NW history, does lots with less.
  13. Read some actual reporting on the crown yesterday and apparently no one knows. Like Villanova or somebody is trying to figure out if they’re contractually obligated to go even if they fire their coach and have no players lol
  14. I don’t like my team playing in the First Four but 1) that’s what this team deserves and 2) it opens the possibility of knowing the next head coach a little bit sooner (though that would require a loss, which I won’t root for).
  15. Oh they’ve had it good but I’m trying to win future conference titles
  16. Yeah I don’t think KU fans are quite where UK fans were but I actually think this is a good comparison. 2025 Self is a better coach than 2025 (or 2024) Cal but I REALLY worry about downside risk. Obviously if you can hire 2003 Self you do it. But we can’t time travel him.
  17. Yep, I think he’s clearly a pretty good coach but had a tough situation.
  18. I think Niko Medved is the guy to watch in MN. Alum, long-rumored, and even if they want McCollum I think he’ll prefer other options.
  19. I see that no one has explained a search firm for 50 pages and so someone who’s been here for 2000 pages needs it explained again what one does
  20. Lovely, this is what I was getting at. Now if we know when something’s closing, we can try to verify via property records.
  21. Anybody a realtor, assessor, otherwise have access to Tapestry, the property records website?
  22. I’m not his biggest fan but as I’ve said all over btown banners, every coach at IU has had dudes, and NIL makes that less of a concern to me. Not to say that you just hire the best X&O guy, but that roster building, managing egos, philosophy, adaptability, etc. are more important, I think.
  23. In addition, even if he REALLY DOESN’T WANT TO LEAVE, even rumored interest is helpful in getting more $ to stay. This is true in most jobs! Use the leverage.
  24. some folks think 1. the on-court product is frustrating, 2. The coach is the problem, 3. Only a proven coach can fix us, but 4. IU won’t hire a proven coach. If that’s the case I don’t know why they remain a fan let alone spend any time being grumpy on a message board.
  25. Trilly himself said this?
