  1. Not convinced of this, but you could even make the case there was some sort of horse trade involved with his info/reporting at a couple different spots.
  2. At the very least this speaks pretty highly of the ath dept staff’s ability to convince them to wait and see.
  3. Not to be conspiratorial but I actually wonder if he knows more about the “mystery candidate” he’s mentioned but is honoring a request for secrecy.
  4. What are you hoping to get out of being here?
  5. Nobody has to start begging for DeVries or Collins or whomever but please note that the folks ‘round here who are plugged in, watch a lot of hoops, and will dig deep on a candidate pretty much universally agree they make sense and are good coaches. I think it’s totally fair to criticize but please bring something substantive, not just grumbling about how famous someone isn’t.
  6. Powell played w/Cupps in HS and IU recruited for awhile; small is from South Bend if I recall correctly.
  7. I don’t think you did. I know you had a “not Stevens” source over the weekend. But you’ve had some interesting comments last night and this AM and you’re not one to stoke the flames to tease.
  8. Earlier @Stuhoo said “ask again in five years” about the best of the bunch of mostly 40-something HCs bandied about. I’m gonna repeat myself on the same group: you hire a coach for what he’s going to do, not what he’s done. Many of these guys will never win a title. But if you could see the future told me McCasland, Otz, Olen, DeVries, McCollum, Luke Murray, etc. took a big job and made multiple F4s, or got a title in the next 10-20 years, it wouldn’t shock me at all. Heck, the first two guys on the list have teams that could make the F4 THIS YEAR
  9. If Iowa doesn’t have the NIL to meet McCollum’s demands then there’s no way they’re meeting DeVries’s, right?
  10. Got a time stamp? I’ll try to catch the IU bit tomorrow.
  11. If @Chris007 has 3 supporters I am one of them. If he has one supporter I stand alone. If he has no supporters then BTB is rubble or I am in the grave
  12. Absolutely correct, thank you. Not necessarily my hope but among other reasons it’s why I’m not worried about e.g. Brownell rumors.
  13. Jerry pipes up and doesn’t walk it back. Folks we’re gonna land the plane
  14. The Indy flight plane returns to Indy in the late afternoon
  15. Not sure there’s a “typical” tbh
  16. I mean I’m not defending him! A good coach with this roster even without swapping Carlyle for Conwell could’ve comfortably qualified
  17. Showed up to defend during the 23-24 season, thought different players would make a big difference this year, everyone’s reasonably sure he’s Tyme on twitter
  18. No idea if he would’ve but he was and remains a good basketball player at the same position as Carlyle, swap the two and IU is, what, a 9 seed minimum
  19. Not to make it all about the same thing but preferring Carlyle to Conwell was part of what doomed IU this year
  20. Wish I’d been wrong but I called WVU getting hosed on Friday
  21. Are you aware this happens all the time and contracts are made with contingencies for when it does?
  22. I think in my rooting guide I said BSU over CSU, but a CSU blowout is probably not bad for IU; most folks have IU ahead of BSU if evaluated as at-large candidates
  23. @Hoosier987 might have more intel but the consensus from plugged in folks has been that Iowa prefers DeVries and his additional D1/high major experience. He and McCollum are both from Iowa and have spent most of their careers there or in neighboring states. Not sure Iowa will have the cash for DeVries or the donor NIL promises to get him, in which case they’ll pivot to McC, who would prefer that job to ours for location/pressure/institutional reasons that I don’t think IU can just choose to overcome.
