The waiver deadline is March 1 this year so there’s very little any GM/VP will do the rest of the year that impacts this year’s team. There are other responsibilities, but if, for example, an exec was leaving, those things (draft scouting, cap projection, contract extensions coming after the playoffs etc.) would all be much less pertinent.

Do you believe we’re getting a mid-major or lower coach who’s in danger of missing the tournament? Otherwise next week implies 1. IU doesn’t make it— won’t know for 11 days, 2. Next guy either misses the tournament (Few(?), Collins, Drew(?), McCollum) OR isn’t a college coach. I think the wind is blowing a different way on both fronts

I know someone who’d, uh, probably know (or have ways of finding out) how things have been with Beard in Oxford. Don’t think it matters and I’m not personally curious but I kinda wonder what I can learn.

Probably correct that it’s one of these ten, IMO, though Schertz, Huss, and McCollum don’t have P5 HC experience, which per Thamel is a filter. Between buyout and what @Uspshoosier has posted, I doubt it’s Cronin. Finally, I feel pretty confident one of the others could be convinced before you got to Brownell.

IU vetted and didn’t hire Beard last time, BEFORE the incident that cost him the Texas job. If someone you trust says it’s Beard, either you’re being strung among or your source is.

Yep, by all logic they SHOULD matter a lot — neutral games against teams from your own conference! And a better process would weigh them appropriately. But the committee based process…doesn’t.

Cal hasn’t been to a S16 or farther since Tyler Herro and PJ Washington were in Lexington. He hasn’t adapted what his teams do to where hoops is at; even some of his best UK teams left money on the table in shot selection. I mean, if I’m worried Self has lost his fastball? I’m sure Cal did awhile ago.

Illinois fans seemed to believe Goode was a problem on defense. He has physical limitations and he isn’t a playmaker on that end but he’s a fine team defender. -

Do you really value the Knight connection or something? Even if he was a perfect choir boy he wouldn’t be in my top 5. Clearly a good coach, I have my opinion and I think it’s all moot since it won’t be him. But I don’t really get the obsession.
