Transfer Portal w IU Interest

IUanon posted about dominoes over the weekend. Feels like Drew Adams and Enright are valuable in their own right but also among the earliest dominoes. -

Plus defender at guard, career 36% 3pt shooter. He’s not perfect but he’ll play with like 8 guys at IU better than anyone he had alongside him at DePaul last year. Not sure why anyone feels like disparaging him. -

Context matters, Enright was stretched too far on a bad DePaul team. He’s played three years of college basketball and looking at just one — the only one he didn’t play for Darian DeVries — is evaluating him with less than full info for no reason. I don’t expect he’ll be the starter, barring injury, but he’s totally capable of 12-25 minutes that help you win, especially on a team with the other talent that’s visiting -

If I recall correctly Elyjah Freeman was committed to LMU, got some D1 offers very late last cycle (like this time or later) and stayed committed to LMU. -
Part of it was injury luck, part of it was development, part of it was you don’t get every kid you want. But I’ve been thinking about how they ended up getting so many of wrong Georgia guys. Not that they were bad kids, but that they let familiarity cloud their ability to be objective in evaluations, and then especially that they didn’t scheme to their guys on either end, and failed to do much to develop any of the GA crew.

Me too and it would follow that they haven’t been too aggressive with any other PGs of that caliber. Could also be explained by “it’s early,” of course I like Enright but you can happily use both. -

Good rim #s, promising from 3, was 129 on the 247 composite, huge defensive box plus/minus (haven’t seen him nor read a scouting report). I’m intrigued! -
I follow some draftniks who really like him but that doesn’t necessarily mean you might only have him for one year. Depends somewhat on what the actual teams see, and on now on how much you can make in school, too. My guess would be he’ll have an option next year and the choice will be dependent on whether he really thinks he’d go higher with another year of school.

My strong hunch is The Crown is probably not keeping too many coaches in their seats. Maybe he finishes Cincy’s season with them, though.

Yeah I think he’ll have a career, but can make more $ next year in college than as a 2nd round pick -
(2027) PG - Chase Branham to INDIANA
lillurk replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
I understand that. WVU called like 9 people “assistant coach” last year but the three traditional assistants were Frazier, Barnett, and Ostrom. I'm very confident Norton is coming to IU too, just not sure if he’ll be one of the three permitted to recruit off campus etc., or if he’ll be in a player development role (a la Cheaney under CMW). I assume someday Norton will be on the bench, but whether that’s next year or not may depend on whether some other options join the staff. -
Not sure I have the whole story, but there’s some sort of palace intrigue at Maryland — AD leaving, interim AD seems likely to get the job permanently, Willard seems unhappy with one or both, and additionally grumpy about funding both general program budget and NIL at UMd. Bball is king at Nova and like other Big East teams, since they’re not going to share nearly as much revenue share with an FCS football team, they’ll probably have larger “payrolls” than all but maybe the highest spenders anywhere else*. Buzz is a differently wired cat, @Uspshoosier posted a good cbs sports piece that now seems scrubbed from the internet about it. And while TAMU has money, it isn’t necessarily a traditionally strong hoops program to the level of Maryland, would be my guess at his thinking. *Actually lots of the big spenders strike me as being in the B12/ACC where they’ll have less TV revenue (Duke, UNC, KU). UK and IU might value hoops more than most other B1G/SEC programs.

So to @Demo’s theory, maybe not a huge tell that IU is, e.g., yoinking a MO St assistant, but illuminating nonetheless. Wonder if Norton will be in a full AC role or not — my hunch is it’s in flux based on who else joins up. -

Plus Pedulla had a very similar season at Virginia Tech last year, it wasn’t some senior year breakout -

Had the same thought about the assistant tell. Haven’t tried to piece it together but someone should, or I guess we may be able to reverse engineer it once we know the staff -
That would be great, and the Sencire Harris example suggests DDV would play a non-shooting perimeter player who brought enough other stuff to the table. I would think shooting development is the best way for B. Tucker to be a positive contributor. Frosh shooting isn’t always a great long-term indicator but he was 21/64 on far 2s and 3/20 on 3s ~ combined about 28.5%. The thing about him most likely Roosevelt now is the finishing; pretty good in close: 8/9 dunks plus 24/43 on close twos (~61.5%). But the handle, vision, feel, defense…long way to go.
-
Think I’d rather have Johnathan Powell than B. Tucker — just not convinced he’s going to translate his physical tools to being a winning player, don’t think the jumper’s there and he’s not on track to bring enough else to make up for it. Would love to be wrong, and I’m curious to see what DDv makes of him if he stays.
-
I’d he fine with it but I’ve been skeptical of his game since he was in HS, would not be shocked whatsoever if he’s simply never a P5 starter let alone an NBA prospect. I’d love to be wrong, whether he’s a Hoosier or not
-
“In the mix” are less likely: Frazier was a (long shot) WVU HC candidate and will have other opportunities if he prefers, Barnett the same but a more realistic candidate for the Oral Roberts HC job, Murphy and Clark are still coaching so everything is TBD, Adams was not with DDV at WVU and could stay at UC, could be contingent on who else joins etc. If forced to guess I would think row of the “mix” guys end up at IU, though I could be wrong in either direction. The other difference is the “mix” group would almost certainly be in off campus recruiting roles, I.e. traditional assistants. Maybe one of the “rumored” guys is too if DDV thinks they’re ready for that. But Norton and Sturtz could just as easily be DOBO, development coaching, things of that nature.

He’s pretty clearly joking about the rumors of his identity here. -

Enright is career 37% from 3 (39.5% under DeVries) and 67% FT (70% under DeVries). The 3pt% is good for high volume, the FT% is average. I think worry about that part of his game is misplaced. -

IMHO the right perspective on Enright is: there’s basically no chance to get a better backup PG. He’ll probably play >20 minutes some nights. He’ll probably play 8 others. He might get some starts, though I really doubt he’s earmarked as the guy to start 30 games. It’ll be fine. -
Portal opening tomorrow really seems to mean the early carousel moves faster. Surely there will still be some motion later (Rick Barnes retiring? Etc.) but no one wants to be left without a coach tomorrow.
