Honestly, I’m waiting to see if there is a pattern behind the kind of player Archie recruits now that he’s at Indiana. If he’s a system coach, maybe we just don’t see how this is the right player for his system. I’m definitely of the mindset that we need a healthy mix of four year players and 5 star studs. Had a sincere conversation with UofL educated Kentucky fans a few weeks back. Respectfully asked them if they truly believed Cal was clean. They all emphatically replied yes. Even despite the violations at Umass and Memphis? Yes. Even despite the absurd recruiting classes? Yes. Even despite the current FBI investigation where everyone landing 5 stars is implicated? Yes. Cal doesn’t need to cheat they said. I had to walk away. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

(2018) SG Romeo Langford - INDIANA HOOSIERS
Walking Boot of Doom replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
@jake11forever Here, read this (thanks to the poster in the College Basketball thread): http://www.oregonlive.com/business/index.ssf/page/the_loyalty_game.html Here’s a fun quote: “Under Armour confirmed this week that it sponsored two club teams run by the parents of star players. The company backs a team led by Apples Jones, whose son Josh Jackson was selected by the Phoenix Suns in the first round of the 2017 NBA draft. Documents obtained during the corruption probe and reported by Yahoo Sports include emails that describe monthly $10,000 payments from the Baltimore-based company to Jones. "Under Armour is giving her 10k a month, and she's also getting paid by adidas now — so she's plenty taken care of," Dawkins wrote of Jones. The cryptic email doesn't address why Adidas would pay into a program sponsored by a competing shoe company. But in Jackson's only year of college basketball, he played for the University of Kansas, which is sponsored by Adidas.” Now kids, what does 2+2 equal? The FBI arrested a handful of assistant coaches in the initial sting. Specific players were mentioned ina list of players who received loans from the agency in question, including players from Duke and Kentucky. I think what Mike did, which you seem to be having trouble doing, is determined that the FBI investigation and the evidence from it will force the NCAA to eventually respond to the findings. A difficult bit of mental gymnastics, but I'm confident in saying that his reasoning is sound. On Kansas being dirty or not - you're absolutely right. Very few "facts" are out there implicating them. I think a bit more reasoning and logic can be applied in reviewing things such as players crashing Lamborghinis and a list of other suspicious player activities. After reviewing all the circumstantial evidence and in light of the evidence of payments in college basketball produced by the current FBI investigation, I don't know how you can logically defend Kansas as clean. You can't emphatically state that they are cheating, but fighting for Kansas' honor is not a hill I'd be willing to die on. -

Stu summed up my thoughts, but the players are completely separated both physically and mentally from the regular student body, based on what I've read. -

Indiana doesn't need to be Kansas to compete with Kansas. Many athletes won't want to be completely separated from the normal student body and only ever surrounded by their team. A one and done factory where the players crash Lambos? Maybe it makes sense for them to live in a resort on a pedastal away from the peasants. I don't think Indiana wants or needs to be that kind of program. Provide top notch facilities, which we currently do and continue to provide, and let them be college students if they want. I think our locker room needs a revamp, but otherwise we're offering top tier facilities. Let Kansas and UK cater to the individuals who only want the posh lifestyle. -

I mean, once BTB Picker gets going, you can see how the mostly uninformed compare. Once again, I think anyone casting stones at the recruiting experts/analysts/forecasters/fortune tellers are doing an awful lot of talk without any evidence that the general population could compete with them. Id argue that there are far more examples where they are accurate and knowledgeable, but people like you and many on the board only look for their failures. I bet if you talk to any of the people at 247 they’ll all openly admit that they don’t know about Romeo and this is just their best guess. On your issue with expert - that’s just a marketing term. Want to call them analysts? What are they even analyzing it’s all just publicly knowledge, right? Point is, it’s just a label, and I’d take the consensus at 247 over almost anyone else’s single opinion any day. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

I love the tournament. Talent level in the NBA is way better, but if you could argue every game is a Game 7 in the tourney. Fun times. Don’t get why people constantly make NBA versus NCAA arguments. They’re completely different. Great and bad for different reasons. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

Ah so you wrote the article. Do you understand the ranking model over at 247? Because based on your article and your above comment, it doesn’t appear that you do. The Crystal Ball even locks up some period of time prior to a recruits announcement if that information is public. Expert rankings are impacted by incorrect picks as well. It’s a pretty solid ranking model. On your point about information being public, there is a lot of public information on Twitter. These guys have a reputation that they have to uphold. Thus, they can help act as a filter for what information is valid and what is not. They have relationships that they can use to privately vet this information. Additionally, we being Indiana fans probably have a lot of information about Indiana recruiting. We lack a lot of information due to interest, proximity, and resources to understand recruitments elsewhere. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

Except they completely misrepresent the 247 expert rankings model that rewards picks the longer they’ve been held. I get everyone likes to take swipes at the recruiting experts, but 1) they’re just a bunch of college hoops junkies like everyone here who found a way to get paid for their addiction and 2) they do usually have way more information than the general population Sounds like this guy has been reading the board and translating it to articles haha.
