Fire or ‘Way to Go!’ Tom Allen?
Walking Boot of Doom replied to Hoosierfan2017's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
If this thread has fallen to this level, then I’m going to continue to call out that Brass Cannon has conveniently disappeared from all football threads because Penix is the answer and he was so incredibly wrong it’s too embarrassing to respond. [emoji854] Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -
Fire or ‘Way to Go!’ Tom Allen?
Walking Boot of Doom replied to Hoosierfan2017's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
Okay, but you aren’t going to make a hire that is suddenly going to make us a 7-9 win team every year. That would take multiple wins (and road wins) over MSU, PSU, OSU, and Michigan. There is no coach in existence that can suddenly make that happen. You can hire a winner, but it’s a team of 100+ athletes that play the game. The program’s talent level needs to be elevated and developed with consistency for who knows how long. Safe to say two years isn’t enough. Before anyone says Brohm and Purdue - he really only added a few wins in a worse division. Since 2000, they only missed a bowl game 8 times. Before Hazell, they were a far far better program with far more consistency than Indiana. Jeff Brohm’s current record at Purdue? 14-16. Tom Allen’s current record at Indiana? 13-16* *13-17 if you count his interim bowl game debut So Purdue went and hired a “winner” to win in a worse division. The only real differences in results is that 1) they won a bowl game 2) they won one more game to go to another bowl and 3) they beat OSU once. Recruiting? We’re about even. (Overall team ranking per 247Sports) 2019 Indiana - 36 Purdue 25 2018 Indiana - 50 Purdue - 52 2017 Indiana - 62 Purdue - 72 Oh, and Purdue is currently 1-3 including loses to Nevada and at home against TCU and Minnesota, but why discuss this year when it’s not over yet... Tom Allen and his coordinators have some decision making immaturities they need to address. They have definite learnings to make as a coaching staff. They also have this program headed in the right direction. There has maybe never been this much excitement in recruiting for IUFB ever. We’re not stealing guys from MAC teams anymore - Tom Allen is going head to head with the big guys and winning high caliber talent. There appears to be a great culture developing within the program - that is absolutely not something to be taken for granted. Everyone hold on to your butts until the season runs it’s course, and stop fawning over Brohm, a “winner”, while he continues to barely achieve anything more than Tom Allen while playing in a division where Nebraska is supposed to be the other powerhouse to Wisconsin. There are definitely problems - I just am not watching that much worse of a product than when Wilson was HC. At least, the results are nearly identical. Bowl games make a big difference in terms of perception, but they’re really just one more win. I’m fine with Allen’s deficiencies as long as the recruiting continues to trend upwards. Near the bottom of the conference... But still the best Indiana has maybe ever had. Also top 40 ish recruiting classes which is pretty crazy that we’re still 11-12th in the B1G. I don’t have it in front of me, but pretty sure we won’t be in the top third until we’re consistently pulling in top 20 classes. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

Moving forward by starting a fire the coach thread. Unreal haha... I’ll wait for BC’s admission that Penix is by far and away the better QB and then we can move on. And yes, I will drive this into the ground and have no limits to my pettiness on this point. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

Agree with Stu - program on the rise. These recruiting classes have added so much talent. Excited to see where we are with an upperclassmen Penix and some of these young guys developed. Also agree that Tom Allen has not been impressive to date. We went the inexperienced route and he clearly has lots of learning to do as a head coach. However, I keep him around for the recruiting while he learns, because the program certainly has not taken a step backwards under him. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -

Gonna go ahead and post this here, but Penix is a stud. BC and Hoosierfan - can we get some agreement now that Penix is the better QB? I didn’t even expect him to play as well as he did yesterday. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -
Against this defense, we need to be able to at least keep the defense honest with our run and passing game. If we let them only play us in the box and within ten yards of the line, we’re done. Hope Penix can play. If he does, I expect him to throw an interception, but still will keep us competitive. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

Corruption in College Basketball

Only difference here is that KU’s recruiting has been hurt and they’ve actively lost commitments. We’ll see! Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -

See, this is interesting. I’d say Louisville and Kansas were the top two Adidas programs willing to play ball, but we’ve also seen that Adidas understands Indiana’s brand value and that you don’t always need the college program to be at all complicit. I’ll say it again, but Romeo was a UL recruit, and then Kansas and Indiana. The Vanderbilt consideration just never fit, in my opinion... Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -
The team needs to score and our offense isn’t going to be strong enough to execute a high possession march down the field against the B1G. Penix can capitalize on opportunities created by his playmakers where Ramsey cannot. Can you and Hoosierfan respond to lucel’s points? He’s laid out a very clear argument. 5’11” in shoes? I don’t remember, my bad. He was undersized. It was never a guarantee he’d make the league. Thomas Bryant’s ability to play out on the perimeter and shoot from the perimeter absolutely developed during his time at Indiana. I’m not saying he was a 3-point specialist or the best, but it was a new element to his game that w developed and definitely aided his draft value. From Crimson Quarry: “In general, Bryant’s mobility is a big positive. In a league trending smaller, Bryant’s ability to play on the perimeter is massive. More than just knocking down perimeter jumpers, Bryant can drag defenders away from the rim and help space the floor.” From DraftExpress: “The most positive development in Bryant's game from his freshman to sophomore season was the strides that he took as an outside shooting threat. After hitting just 33% on .8 attempts last season, Bryant's 3-point percentage jumped to 38.3% on a much higher 2.5 attempts per game as a sophomore. While he is by no means a knock-down floor spacing option yet, his improved stroke is a welcome sight for someone who generally relied on his size as an offensive threat. He wasn't featured heavily as a spot up option off the ball, but he was extremely effective when he was, ranking in the 99th percentile in spot up situations per Synergy Sports. He has a fairly flat trajectory on his shot, but he has a compact release with a clean follow through that should continue to improve and be a part of his offensive arsenal down the line at the professional level.” Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -
We don’t have the stats to show that Penix nor Ramsey is better at this point. What we have is the ability to compare all that we’ve seen from Ramsey to what we’ve seen from Penix. It’s subjective, but you and Hoosierfan appear to be the only people on the board who watched and believe Ramsey is better. Oh, our coaching staff also believes Penix is better and gives us a better chance of winning. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

“You should have more zip on your passes. You shouldn’t have to heave a 20 yard pass.” What does this mean to you? It seems you read this as, “arm strength is the most important characteristic of a QB,” and then you compared Ramsey to Super Bowl winning NFL QB Peyton Manning by using him as an example of a QB who didn’t need major arm strength to win (even though his arm strength even weakened was greater than Ramsey). You think Bryant suddenly developed a perimeter game on his own? Yogi at 5’9” was certain to end up one of the best PGs in the country and become an NBA player? Troy Williams was OUT OF CONTROL and a bit Bambi on ice like - he really matured his game. A made a completely qualified and toned down comment that we can’t discredit Crean’s player development with all the examples. You come in and say 5 and 4 stars were going to end up where the ended up with or without Crean. Which statement sounds more reasonable? Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -
Also petty insults? Get over it it’s a bit of my style. Joe DeLow is an absolutely extreme character on this board and should never been used as a representative example of general board feelings. That’d be like quoting iugradman and then saying, “see, everyone thinks Fred Glass is the devil.” Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

There’s nothing to refute. No one said arm strength is the key indicator of a successful QB. You created an argument that doesn’t exist, so no one can refute your statement. That’s partially why it’s a logical fallacy and an entire academic area of study exists teaching people how to avoid creating logical fallacies. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

I’d like a much larger sample size on him. I will credit Penix by saying that they were made in the first half of his first start in his first college game and he then recovered and led an excellent second half. Ramsey on the other hand is making the same errant throws as a junior in his 15th-ish start? My narrative is that Penix is equal to and marginally better as freshman than a junior Ramsey. He is more dynamic and diversifies our options offensively. He gives us a better chance to win. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
