I’m not understanding your point then. Head Coaches aren’t experts in coaching and developing every position player. That’s why they hire OCs and position coaches. Allen is a HC with a defensive background, so I’d imagine he’ll have very little impact on anyone on the offensive side of the ball other than through his overall decisions. Don’t ever quote Joe to me as an indicator of a larger population. These comments are 1) taken out of context and 2) absolutely not indicative of anyone treating Penix like a savior. How many interceptions did Ramsey throw in those 6 quarters by the way? For a safe pick, it’s safe to say he’ll throw a pick a game. This debate is tired though. If you wouldn’t rather see Penix under center after all that we’ve seen from Ramsey, then I have nothing else to say about this. Ramsey is exactly what we know, and Penix gives us some additional offensive fire power that may win an additional game or two making us bowl eligible. It’s as simple and lightly stated as that. I do hope Ramsey invites you and BC to his birthday party this year though. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

Yogi and Bryant both made improvements. OG was a massive one. Oladipo has outside development (just like almost every other player) but Crean still played a significant role. Troy Williams made it onto an NBA roster. Plenty to bash Crean over, but player development was never one, like it or not. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -

Hold on. What can a upperclassmen QB do that a freshman couldn’t? Come on now. Allen hired a new OC because he knows he’s not an offensive expert, and he knew his old offense wasn’t working. Your question may be more accurately asked as, “what could a senior QB accomplish in his 4th year with the same OC that he couldn’t accomplish in his first year?” My answer is still COME ON NOW. We’ll see, but I’d bet my money that a senior QB will be used more effectively and play more effectively than the freshman version of themselves. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -
Literally don’t see anyone saying that. What people are saying is that he’s at least as good as Ramsey, and that he gives us a better chance of winning. People believe Ramsey equals another missed bowl and Penix is at least a chance at making it. That’s far different than people “acting like he’s a savior” Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

100% - Ramsey is not a bad QB. With Ramsey, I know exactly what we’ll get when he plays. Good for an 80%+ completion percentage, many short passes, an interception or two, a win against bad teams, and a certain loss against the top tier teams. He’s a 5 win QB in our division of the B1G, despite being a good QB. As you said later, Penix diversifies our offensive attack, and is pretty much also good for a win against the bad teams. I (and many others) also believes he’s good for a win or two against those better B1G teams that will help propel us to a bowl game. We’ll see! Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

No, Glass wouldn’t have fired them fast enough. He had a chance to never even hire them. FIRE GLASS! Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -
Would you like one million dollars and a cake with that perfect recruiting class? You’re damn right we’d take that! I’d think that would be good enough for a top 5 class without looking into it at all, and would create some incredible roster balance going into 2021 recruiting. Here’s to hoping you get your wish! We could probably at least get you the cake if the recruits don’t pan out. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

Really hope the second part is sarcasm. Coach K is the same scumbag level as Izzo. Above the rules, above the law, they do what they want and how dare you question them. I actually dislike those two far more than Calipari. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

Wow this is a depressing link. 2 of Indiana’s 11 postseason appearances in its history were under Glass. (11 since 1953 in the B1G to remove the misleading earlier years). https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Indiana_Hoosiers_football_seasons Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -

Like it or not, Fred Glass has elevated IUFB to a level of consistency only bested by the Bill Mallory era. He’s elevated the facilities to an unprecedented level. Sure, it’s from an F to a C, but that’s a whole lot of improvement. Even with Indiana basketball, it’s been so bad since RMK’s prime that Glass has us at a consistency we hadn’t seen in decades. Again, D to a B, but more improvement. It feels like many here want it all to click like magic again, and I don’t think many understand how broken our programs were and how much work it takes to fix it all. Meanwhile, they ignore the progress that’s been made because it’s not the final desired result. Finally, a change in AD is just as contingent on making the right hire as a change in HC. There’s no guarantee Indiana’s BOT doesn’t botch that hire and ruin all the progress that’s been made. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -

People are acting like a offer to coach basketball or football at Indiana is an invitation to heaven. “We could have had Brad Stevens” - highly doubtful he would have considered the job with Crean in place (someone reported on here that was a direct response from Stevens during our inquiries) “We could have had Les Miles” - so what. He’s 65 and on the backend of a career that peaked over 10 years ago. He’s not going to fix Kansas and he wasn’t going to fix Indiana. “But Jeff Brohm!” - meh. We’ll see how that plays out... “Fire Archie and hire Chris Beard” - okay so 1) you want Fred Glass to fire one of the hottest young coaches in basketball and 2) you believe Beard has any interest in coming to a program that is less poised for success in the immediate future? Delusional. Remember the conversation about offering jobs to people you believe will accept? You better be completely certain that a coach will accept if you’re planning to fire your existing coach if you can get them. Things we can agree on: 1) there should have been a more thorough IUFB coaching search 2) see #1 because that’s about it On that - do we know if there was ANY level of inquiries put out to other coaches for IUFB? There’s more than a zero percent chance Tom Allen is the only man who wanted the job. Head Coach of IUFB is death toll plain and simple. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -

If someone actually did it - absolutely! If a (just for ease of communicating this point) Jeff Brohm type wanted to spend 5 years or so at Indiana really giving it a shot, I say sign them up. Les Miles in the twilight of his career? Not sure I see that as a recipe for success. Luckily, with that specific example, we have a pretty good comparative case study - Kansas is as bad or worse than Indiana and plays in a strong conference. The Butler Way isn’t growing on trees. They also benefit from the same advantages that IU has - basketball is the #1 passion in their state and they have a large and talented in-state recruiting pool. I’m trying and failing to think of a football program that was a football first school that was able to go from Indiana’s level to consistent bowl winner even through coaching changes. I’m all for hiring the next up and coming coach - I have serious doubts that someone could get Indiana in a sustainable place in only a few years. This is the second worst (I believe in terms of record) FBS program in the country we’re taking about. Meanwhile, Allen is doing some of the best recruiting this program has ever seen (I know 11th in the B1G). Hiring a coach with no head coaching experience to build a program is a risky move. We’ll see how things go this year. In my mind, he just needs to make a bowl to capitalize on the recruiting and build momentum. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

Don’t know who Drax is and not sure who I attacked (other than gradman). Life’s great actually! Wouldn’t expect you to know any of that about me though. I made my point on the subject, IU should want a coach who wants to be here and spend the time required to make this a consistent and strong program. That should be a consideration for any program with as much work to do to build a winning culture as Indiana. A short increase in success followed by a fall back to failure after your superstar coach bounces is far more toxic in my opinion than continuing to fail when there are no expectations. Don’t know if Allen is the guy. This year is as good a time as any for him to show some real promise. Needs Penix healthy though. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

They absolutely are. Theses are multi-million dollar executive hires. If you haven’t noticed, it takes time to build a football program and recruit players that fit your schemes. I don’t know how that eliminates “every hot rising coach”. That’s just wrong. It doesn’t have to be someone who says they’re a lifer. But you go out and hire a guy who you don’t think is going to jump for the Michigan job the second it opens. That’s not the kind of person you want leading your program. Tom Allen was 1) the easy hire and 2) may be a great hire or a terrible one. I will be interested to see how the rest of this season goes. However, if Penix is out for the season, I have no reason to believe this year will be any different than the past decade. Maybe we squeak into 6 wins somehow, maybe not. Probably not getting a job if you approach complex situation as simply as this or it could be because in every debate or discussion you enter you seem to apply some form of the reductio ad absurdum fallacy to counter opinions other than your own. It’s not a very intelligent nor effective form of argument. Good luck! Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
